Gage laughed at Marina’s favorite bitch, Claire. She was hilarious. He could see why Marina and her were best friends. They were sitting around in Marina’s condo for movie night.
“I mean, come on!” Claire giggled, falling back on the couch. “If I would have went to the Bahamas with Marina, I could have come home with someone special, too. If it wasn’t for me, she wouldn’t have had the courage to introduce herself to you.”
He chuckled as he pulled Marina underneath his arm. They were bound to meet at that resort more than four months ago. Once he would have laid eyes on her, he wouldn’t have let her out of his sight.
“Well, at least I didn’t do it exactly as you suggested.” Marina laughed, wiping the tears from her eyes.
“I don’t even know if I want to know what she suggested.” Gage shook his head.
“Okay, let’s get the movie playing,” Claire announced, jumping up from her spot in the recliner and grabbing the remote. She hit the button as she settled back in the chair.
“What are we watching?” Gage asked. He sent a slight prayer up that it was not a chick flick.
“It’s only fair that he gets to pick this time. You picked last time, Claire Bear,” Marina said as she turned her eyes up at Gage. He leaned down and kissed her soft lips.
“Go get a room if you two are going to be all lovey-dovey.” Claire groaned, covering her eyes with her hand.
A breaking story on the news caught their attention.
“Business tycoon, Vincent Snider, was found guilty on tax evasion charges. He will be sentenced on Monday,” the newscaster announced.
The room fell quiet as they all listened to the story. Gage felt Marina shift next to him, and laid her head on his chest as she listened to the story.
He glanced over at Claire and shook his head, hinting that she should turn the channel. They didn’t need anything to bring their joy down. Vincent Snider had gotten what he deserved. It wasn’t Gage’s fist slamming into his nose again, but the nice long sentence in jail would do.
The past few months since they returned from the Bahamas had been a whirlwind, and it was all worth it.
He glanced down and caught Marina staring up at him. He brushed her hair from her face as he gazed down into her beautiful eyes.
“What is it?” he asked softly.
“I love you,” she murmured.
“I love you, too.” He leaned down, and against the objections of her best friend, he covered her mouth with his to seal their love with a kiss.
