STARGATE SG-1: Transitions Page 32

“Trials and other diversions took a backseat,” finished Hammond. “They simply decided to leave them in there, which explains why the last pods weren’t opened until the expedition found them.”

“That’s about the size of it, yeah.”

“Do we know what happened to the rest of Amara’s group?”

“Your guess is as good as mine, sir. Daniel couldn’t find a damn thing, and believe me, he’s been looking. They either covered their tracks amazingly well or the Ancients systematically expunged all references from their archives. My money’s on the latter.”

“Yeah. Seeing that we never so much as caught a whiff of the existence of this splinter group before, I doubt they’re still around. Hopefully this is the last we’ll hear of them.” Hammond stared into his beer for a moment, then looked up. “Anyway, good job, Jack. As always. What do you say, shall we grab a bite to eat?”

“I thought you’d never ask, sir.”

  Epilog

The Doci, the Teacher, had received the summons. More than that, he had sensed that the Ori were displeased. Accordingly, he moved as fast as dignity and decorum would allow. At a mere flick of his hand the massive doors swung open, and he slowly stepped into the sanctum. Ahead of him opened the window into the plane of the Ori, eternally alive with the dance of their fire. Beholding it was a privilege only few were granted. Only few were pure enough to tolerate the sight.

He stopped at the very edge of the chasm. “Hallowed are the Ori!” he exclaimed and opened his thoughts to their desire.

An irregularity has occurred. One of your pupils has betrayed us. She has joined the enemy.

The image of the girl appeared in his mind, as she had been then. The Doci had been oblivious of her for thousands of years. She had been faithful and useful and after she had fulfilled her task more important matters had demanded his attention. “Amara?” he whispered. “What have you done? Why would you commit such heresy?”

That is of no import. She has done what she has done, and it cannot be reversed. We ought to thank her.

  This surprised him. “Why?”

There is a whole galaxy of unbelievers only her actions revealed to us. They must be brought to Origin. Find them or ensure they find us.

“It shall be done. Hallowed are the Ori.”
