A crash of thunder rattled the small shack. Kiley gasped, tugged him closer, and buried her face in the crook of his neck. Bo cupped the back of her head as he kissed her temple.

  “Shh. It’s okay.”

Kiley squeezed him tighter. “I hate storms. Especially when I don’t know where I’m at.”

He slipped his hands beneath her shirt. “Close your eyes.”

  “It doesn’t help.”

“Shh. Just listen to me.” Bo rested his chin against her head. “Do you remember our first date? I wanted everything to be perfect, and it only ended up creating more disaster. I burned the chicken I’d planned for dinner and damn near creamed my pants when I saw you in that little black dress—you know, the one that dips low and shows an amazing amount cleavage. I’d been out on a billion dates before, but nothing flustered me as much as you in that dress.” He kissed her cheek. “Then the first time I got you naked just about gave me cardiac arrest.”

She chuckled. “Good to know there were a billion other dates before me.”

“You know what I mean.” He pressed his lips to the side of her face. “I wasn’t a virgin when we met, but you were hot that night. You definitely made me hot. I’ve never had that kind of intense reaction to any other woman.”

“I didn’t want to meet you that night. My friend had tickets to a rock concert, and I almost bailed on you.”

Bo smiled. “It wouldn’t happen to be the concert for the band you made me take you to see, would it? I think it was our fifth date because it happened before we had sex the first time and that was in our sixth.”

She laughed and pushed away from him. “You kept track of how many dates it took to fuck me?”

“Damn right I did.” He brushed her hair back. “I didn’t think I’d ever get you in my bed.”

“Oh, you knew. You prepared for it. Condoms were hidden everywhere—even your car—for the moment.”

He caressed her arms. “Why did you marry me?”

She smiled. “I loved you. You’re the one I wanted to spend my life with.”

Bo met her eyes. “Are we really done, then? I know things haven’t been perfect, and there’s plenty I need to work on. But are we really done?”

Kiley moved off his lap to the side. She didn’t speak for awhile, and he didn’t press her for an answer. He thought about their life together a lot over the past month. He thought she broke it off because of the misunderstanding concerning the housekeeper. But, in reality, she broke it off because of his neglect.

Why the fuck didn’t I see this before she mentioned divorce?

“I think it’s premature to say one way or another. I still love you, Bo. I doubt that will ever change. But a lot of things have to change. I just can’t do it anymore.” She swallowed. “I told you a million times I’d take a shack like this over a mansion if it meant I got to spend free time with you. Yeah, expensive things are nice. I’m grateful for everything. But you are what I want. I’d give it all up in a heartbeat if I can have you back—the way you were when we first got married.”

Remembering those days, he stared at the far wall. He had spent his days working as usual, while Kiley worked for her father’s company. Then his job transferred to Miami, and he convinced her she didn’t need a job. He could support them both, and somehow, that had gotten them caught up in the chaos they struggled with now.

“Do you really want to move back to Connecticut?”

She turned toward him. “I don’t know.”

“Maybe it’s something we need to think about?”

  “We?”

He sighed. “We’re still married. You’re not going without me.”

She didn’t say anything for the longest time. Bo contemplated what her initial reaction to his protectiveness was before she laid her head against his shoulder.

  “I’ve missed you, Bo.”

He cupped her cheek and kissed her forehead. “I’ve missed you, too.”

  Chapter Three

Kiley laid beside Bo and felt his hot cock press against her. She sucked in a breath. He was big and delicious and fit perfectly inside her. She held back a groan as she lay beside him. He definitely knew how to satisfy her. She squirmed, rubbing her ass against him. He growled.

“Remember it’s been a month for us both, babe.” Bo gripped her hip. “A whole fucking month since I’ve felt your hands on me, your mouth sucking me, or that sweet little pussy clenching me tight. Thirty fucking days of torture.”

“You were supposed to be sleeping.” She wiggled her ass a little more.

He snorted, nuzzling her neck in the dark. “I can’t sleep because I keep thinking about fucking you. Celibacy is designed to kill a man, and having my beautiful wife in my arms with her ass resting against my dick isn’t helping matters any.”

He kissed her neck. She closed her eyes. Sex with Bo was off the charts. His tongue was a decadent pleasure all on its own. She closed her eyes and reveled in his attention.

Why can’t things always be this way?

His hand slid along her side until his fingers grazed the underside of her breast. “You smell good.”

She pushed away from him and sat on the edge of the bed.

  “Where are you going?”

“I need to use the bathroom. I’ll be right back.”

Her mind raced. They hadn’t solved anything, and just a few minutes ago, they were arguing. They were shipwrecked on some island in the Pacific. She brushed her forehead. If she did fuck him, then everything went back to normal. It had to. Sex should signal that she had called the divorce off. Kiley stood and tried her best to make it to the door without hitting something along the way.

“Wait, Kiley. I’m coming with you.”

When she opened the door, he stood by her side. Was she ready to trust him again? Even after everything, he’d always been there for her. For the big things at least. And they did have an active sex life. Was she just being selfish for wanting more?

  “What’s wrong?”

“I suck at dealing with my emotions. I think decisions are best made when things are black-and-white. Emotions are a huge gray area.”

Bo pulled her to him. “Give me this week to prove ending our marriage is a huge mistake.”

Could she forget about everything for the rest of the week? It was only three days. Kiley contemplated her options. Hawaii would be hell if she and Bo fought the entire time. And she knew that he’d keep trying. He’d proved today alone that he didn’t plan on giving up.

“Fine. You have the rest of the week.”

After she used the bathroom, she convinced Bo to go to the beach with her. The storm had passed, and the moon sat low in the sky. It was perfect night for romance. She plopped onto the sand and stared at the horizon. The waves lapped at her feet.

“What happened that night?” She glanced over at him.

“I was just sleeping, Kiley. She’d been chatty all night, and I had so much damn work. I was tired and fell asleep in my parents’ study. She woke me up by squeezing my dick through my pants. I glanced down, and she was half-naked, touching herself. Then you walked in before I could even push her away.”

She sighed. “You were going to push her away.”

“I’m not a cheater.” He scoffed. “Damn it, Kiley. How could you even think that about me? After eight years of marriage and two years of dating.”

“I don’t know. Signs were there. You’re never home. You always say you’re working or with clients. The one time we are together at a social function, I catch you and your parents’ housekeeper in a compromising position.” Kiley told herself not to cry. Tears didn’t solve anything. She glanced away and swiped her cheeks in frustration. “I asked myself constantly, what was so terrible about me that you had to stay away all the time. Because let’s face it, the only time you really came around was for sex, and even then, it seemed like you couldn’t wait to get away from me afterward.”

“What? That’s not true.” He swept her hair from h
er face. “Why do you say that?”

She avoided his eyes and stared at the moon over the ocean. “Our anniversary. I thought you…I thought it would be a night full of passion and intimacy. But you had better things to do, even after you went through the trouble to set up a romantic scene with the rose petals and champagne.”

She took a deep breath and met his eyes. “Then, that night I caught you with the housekeeper, and it appeared that you didn’t even need me for sex anymore. I guess I sort of thought you didn’t want it with me anymore.”

Bo stared at her with tenderness in his eyes. She didn’t mean to confess so much to him. He wasn’t a bad person and she did love him. Even when she had seen him with the housekeeper, she couldn’t make those feelings go away. She wanted to hate him. She knew that her husband was a handsome man and that he could have any woman he wanted. Sometimes she wondered if he regretted choosing her.

He swallowed hard before reaching to cup her cheek. “The exact opposite is true. I didn’t touch Louisa, and I can’t stop thinking about touching you. I honestly didn’t know that you felt that way, baby.” He leaned in to brush his lips against hers in a soft kiss. “I’m sorry I made you think that.”

She shrugged. “You weren’t around. How could you know?”

Bo dropped his hands to his side with a sigh. “It’s no excuse. You should never have to feel that way, regardless of the circumstances.”

She wiped her cheeks and stared at the waves rolling into shore. Maybe she should have said something sooner. As far as she was concerned, they had both screwed up on the communication part of their relationship.

She laid her head against his shoulder, and Bo pulled her between his legs and turned her to face him before kissing her cheek. “I promise things will change if you give us another chance.”

His arms came around her protectively, and she liked it. She liked being surrounded by him. He rested his chin against her shoulder and held her for a while, not saying a word. She wanted to believe him. She wanted to believe that they were stuck in a rut that they’d eventually climb out of. Together.

Bo leaned in to kiss her. “I’m sorry I dragged you onto a boat and got us trapped on the island for the night.”

She smiled. “You’re forgiven the very second I enter our rented beach house.”

“Are you tired? Maybe we should head back to the fishing shack and get some sleep.”

“I don’t want to go back in there. It stinks.” Lying against him, she linked her fingers with his. “You really think we have a shot?”

“Yes. This is just a little bump in the road.”

Bo cupped the back of her head and kissed her. Her gasp turned into a moan when his hot tongue slid along hers. She melted against him.

The fighting had grown old. She didn’t want the distance between them. She didn’t want to carry on living the way they had been. She cupped his cheeks and opened her mouth even more to his kiss.

The night had chilled a bit with the rain, and the breeze coming from the sea felt good against her hot skin. Bo pulled away from her lips and trailed kisses along her neck. He held her against his rock-hard body, reminding her of everything they had. Of everything she didn’t want to give up.

She was in so much trouble.

“Bo,” she said in a breathless whisper. She combed her fingers through his short locks. She gained his attention long enough to say, “If we do this, it changes everything.”

He tugged her against his dick. “You are the one I want, Kiley. Always. There’s no one else.”

He pushed her over shirt up and tossed it aside. With a few flicks of his wrist, her bikini top fell loose and he tossed it to the side. Her nipples beaded in the cool air before his warm palms cupped her breasts, and he squeezed them lightly. He rolled the stiff buds with his fingers, sending a delicious tremor through her.

“I’m sorry about our anniversary.” He focused on her nipples while he spoke. “It was mandatory that I meet with that client for drinks. I didn’t get the call until a few seconds before you came home.” He met her eyes. “I’d meant to spend the evening with you in bed, reenacting our wedding night.”

She gasped when he leaned down and lapped at one of her nipples. “I’m so sorry that I didn’t get to.”

Kiley clutched his head and closed her eyes. He’d gone out of his way to make it their anniversary romantic. Bo had tossed rose petals all over their bed before she got home from her Pilates class. He had chilled champagne waiting for her and poured her a glass, having handed it to her before giving her a kiss. She’d been so happy he’d planned a romantic evening at home.

Kiley moaned when he switched to her other breast and gave it the same treatment. That night hadn’t gone the way she had planned. All she’d really wanted to do was stay in bed, alternating between making love and cuddling with her husband. It was their eighth anniversary. She hadn’t even been home long enough to taste the champagne before Bo informed her that he had a client to meet and things to do after their romp in the sack.

“Bo.” She opened her eyes and forced him to look at her. The pain of rejection came over her as she relived that night.

He hadn’t even bothered taking time to undress either one of them, having chosen instead to take off the necessary articles of clothing. After a quickie, he stood and headed to the bathroom to clean up. Kiley remembered how she had lain in bed, watching him leave her side. He hadn’t held her, hadn’t told her that he loved her. When he came out, he had dressed in a suit and tie and headed out the door, throwing an “I’ll be late. Don’t wait up” over his shoulder.

Bo licked his lips. “I want you, Kiley. I wish I could take back everything, beginning with that night and start over.”

  “I want you, too, Bo.”

He tugged at the strings on her waist and slipped the bikini bottom free. She sat naked before him, the moon glowing behind her. Bo slid his hands up her thighs.

  “Stand up.”

“What?” Kiley stared at his dark frame in shock.

He didn’t elaborate. He lifted her so that she stood above him straddling his thighs. Brushing his hands along her legs, he widened her stance. She braced herself with her hands on his shoulders as he gripped her hips. His hot, wet tongue touched her next.

  “Oh, God.”

He took his time to tease her, slipping his tongue between the folds of her pussy exactly the way he knew drove her crazy. She instantly tightened when he touched the right spot with just the right amount of pressure. He was damn good at giving her pleasure, and he knew it.

  “Bo,” she pleaded.

With his fingers, he spread her apart before flicking her clit with his tongue. He alternated between sweet, loving laps and teasing circles, which drove her insane with lust. She leaned forward, her legs wobbling as her pleasure escalated.

  “Please, Bo. Please…”

He withdrew his mouth, his hands caressing her thighs. “Please what, Kiley?”

  She swallowed hard. “Fuck me.”

  * * * *

Bo’s sweet wife had such a dirty mouth, and he loved it. He lifted her into his arms and carried her the short distance inside the small shack they commandeered for the night. He seated her on the small bed and reached for the cooler she’d brought. The candles filled one pocket, and he figured some light was better than none. He pulled one out, struck a match, and the hiss of the fire illuminated the area a bit.

  “You have candles?”

He smiled. “I know how much you like romance, and I planned on having a candlelit dinner with you—after I got you to see I’m not a bad guy.”

He sat the candles near the bed so he could see as much of her body as he could. “I guess I’ll have to settle for making love by candlelight.”

He settled on the thin mattress and pushed her legs apart so he fit between. He had Kiley naked, soft, and made for loving before him. They were meant to be together, he concluded. He’d known it from the very first time he saw her.

&nb
sp; “You brought them for me?” she asked in awe.

His dick was about to explode. He struggled to pull his pants down enough to free his cock. “I didn’t bring them for me.”

He met her eyes. Kiley wanted so much more from him, and he had nearly blown it. He nearly lost the best damn thing about his life because of his own stupidity. He leaned down to kiss her stomach and, taking a breath, indulged himself in her. She smelled like coconut oil. He knew that she’d planned on tanning when they were out at sea, but he hadn’t realized how much the scent turned him on. After a few deep breaths, he kissed his way up her body until he reached her mouth.

It made sense that sex would change everything between them. He thanked his lucky stars that she wanted this, that she still wanted to be with him.

He smoothed his hands along her arms and pushed them above her head. Kiley made a soft little sound against his mouth that shot a bolt of desire straight to his groin. He was so damn close to the edge.

“I love you, Kiley.” He reached between them and guided his cock to her entrance. Her knuckles brushed against his cheek. Candlelight flickered across her features. He wanted to see her in a well-lit room, to look into her eyes as he fucked her, claimed her as his. God, he didn’t want to give her up. His chest ached at the thought of it.

  “Fuck me, Bo. Please.”

She pulled him down to her mouth as he plunged into her, filling her completely with his thick cock. Closing his eyes, he enjoyed the feeling of her pussy completely surrounding him. He swore softly. Her hot wetness nearly made him groan aloud.

Bo gripped her hips and started thrusting. She felt too damn good. He nuzzled her neck, thrusting into her like a man who simply needed his wife. Damn, when had he become so emotional—especially during sex?
