Lucifer's Abbey Page 33

“Your Oath is fulfilled Isabella and great will be your reward.”

“Peter.” She said, and then he was gone as though he had never been.

On the other side of the Altar the knights had lifted the Ark by its golden carrying rods. They carried it out through the same tunnel by which the Imp had departed.

The Satanists in the benches were all slumped unconscious in the seats or upon the floor.

I turned back to look at Cherie. She had walked to the Altar and was holding Leon's hands. He drew her close to him and smiled at me.

Juliet was kneeling where I'd left her. I went and knelt beside her and put my arm around her. She leant her head upon my shoulder. Above us the tapestry had a new figure in it; the ugly images it portrayed held a struggling victim who appeared to writhe in agony. I hoped fervently that he did.

Derek and David came down through the Congregation with Graeme Dee assisting Ann in their midst. She was ashen faced but managed a smile.

Cherie and Leon walked across and Juliet and Cherie hugged each other. It was a nice moment and Leon and I exchanged glances. He gave me that warm smile of his.

Ann Taylor came and put her arm around his waist and up went his eyebrows at me.

Derek Smith looked at me. “You alright, Boss?”

I put my arm back around Juliet, looked at Leon and drew her close.

“I'm fine thank you Derek,” I said, “I'm an Ellacombe boy.”
