Creating a novel takes a team and I am so lucky to have a special team here at HQ Stories. My editor Belinda Toor is exceptional and truly dedicated to getting the best she can from me, and it is with huge credit to her that Dark Memories is much improved now she’s helped me mould it into shape. So, thanks, Belinda, for all your efforts. My copy editor Helena Newton has done an excellent job catching all my errors and again her insight has been welcomed at every point.

My trusty team of Beta readers have worked their socks of, held me to account, made me laugh and supported me all the way – thanks to Toria Forsyth-Moser, Anita Waller, Dee Groocock, Carrie Wakelin, Emma Truelove and Maureen Webb for being on hand to sort me out. My ARC readers have also been brilliant and although there are too many of you to mention, your comments and thoughts, as always, make a difference.

As always, a special thanks must go to my brilliant family who keep the coffee and food coming, help me when I’m down and celebrate with me when I’m on point.

Rachel Gilbey from Rachel’s Random Resources created an amazing blog tour for Dark Memories and I am hugely grateful to her. Thanks, Rachel!

Lastly, huge thanks to all of the bloggers, reviewers, book groups and readers who take the time to read, talk about, spread the word and generally share the book love. You are all STARS!

  Dear Reader,

You are the most important people in this entire process because it is you who invests so much time into the characters and stories I dredge up from the darkest reaches of my mind. Dark Memories, although the third in the DS Nikki Parekh series, was always meant to be. I always knew that when I created Nikki I owed it to the readers to reveal some of her backstory and in Dark Memories, I do that.

Nikki is a special character to me. I saw many Nikki’s during my time teaching in inner-city Bradford and that’s why I wanted her to live in the inner city. I wanted Nikki to be strong but vulnerable – I hope you find her so.

In the writing of Dark Memories I found myself creating a character called Isaac. Isaac, for me, is the light in the darkness. I loved bringing him to life and making him part of Nikki’s family. Isaac kept me grounded and offered me light relief when I was writing what turned out to be a very dark novel (maybe that was the Covid impact).

Dark Memories is all about families; from the dysfunctional ones to the blended ones to the work place ones and more. In this novel Nikki is forced to consider her past and how that impacts on her as a person and, as in each novel, Nikki evolves a little bit.

I hope you enjoy Dark Memories and joining Nikki on this leg of her journey. If you did, the best gift you could give me is to shout about Nikki and her team and family to anyone who’ll listen, recommend her to your friends or leave a review – it needn’t be a long one, but I read every one and would love to see your feedback.

  Till the next Nikki adventure,

  Stay safe and Best Wishes
