“What?” Mrs. Haydenshire gasped.

“Governor Haydenshire, I need you to get the kids and go with them to Will’s. Stay there until you hear from me,” Dan ordered. “Please, sir, take Fionna, Adeline, and Emily with you. Keep them there.”

Governor Haydenshire nodded his understanding. “Lillian, go pack a few bags for everyone, please.”

Mrs. Haydenshire nodded as she followed Lucy and Patrick into the house.

“What are we gonna do?” Logan demanded.

“We’re going to end Wretchkinsides once and for all. I’m done. This is it!” Dan vowed. Fury rose in the bile that flooded his mouth. Today was the day. Whatever Fionna had been keeping from him, she hadn’t told him because no one knew they were together. Her eyes were swollen from her constant crying. She could barely manage a conversation between them. Twice that week, she’d been sound asleep on the couch at five-thirty in the afternoon and hadn’t awoken until he’d left for work the next morning.

He wanted her to tell him when she was ready, but this had gone on long enough. She was a mess of chaotic terror. She needed him, and he wasn’t going to allow her to be afraid any longer. She couldn’t find herself in the insanity that had been going on for far too long. He was going to change that.

It was all going to end. He was going to end the hatred, the violence, and the threats. He was going to have a life with Fionna, a real life. The plan he’d been contemplating for weeks solidified in his mind and in his resolve. He wasn’t walking away this time until Dominic Wretchkinsides was dead.

Despite the hundreds of witnesses, he pulled Fionna against him forcefully. “I love you so much, baby, and this is it. I’m done, Fi. I’m not playing his games anymore. By tonight, I’m going to tell the world that you’re mine.”
