While she was being tugged away, she noticed Bill was speaking to the head of commissioning and wondered what he was up to before diverting her attention back to Sam.
‘It’s all a lie!’ Sam shouted, being held back.
‘You’re a lying prick!’ she said, starting to laugh, now being pulled out of the room by Squirrel. ‘And even that’s smaller than the average size of a peanut! Anyway, everyone’s going to know you’re gay! It’s on the phone!’
He was going to lunge for her, but Jamie stepped in front of him.
‘And you’re a shit actor,’ added Jamie before pushing Sam back. ‘Molly Drew deserves better than you. Hey, that rhymes.’
Jamie turned and smiled at her.
The world stopped when she looked at him.
Then she was hauled out by Squirrel as Jamie followed.
‘My phone!’ she yelled, looking as it was trampled on.
‘Come on,’ Jamie said, grabbing her hand and leading her out of the hotel. ‘Let’s get you away from that piece of shit.’
‘What a punch!’
Squirrel was laughing as they went to a bistro around the corner. The three of them were sat at a corner table. ‘And it’s not even noon.’
‘April Fools’ Day which seems to be perfect. All things considered,’ she said shaking her head. ‘And he broke my phone.’
She turned to see Kim was talking to someone on her mobile as Jamie sat opposite, smiling at her.
‘He’s going to say it’s a lie,’ she sighed, putting her head on the table. ‘And my parents are going to see what I did and my career is over. I might as well get on the flight now and not bother to come back.’
A hand was placed on her hair, then gently stroked. She looked up, and Jamie was caressing her head, still smiling.
‘He’s ugly in real life and wears too much tinted moisturiser,’ said Jamie before letting out a massive sigh and resting his chin on the table, so they were eye level. ‘And you say he has a small dick?’
‘Am I going to be in trouble for hitting him?’
‘Mr Mac would be so proud of you.’
‘Jamie, you need to sort out the fundraiser and opening for the gym tonight. You shouldn’t be here.’
‘There’s no place I’d rather be.’
Molly closed her eyes and grimaced.
‘Well, that was interesting,’ said Bill, walking in with Kim. Molly looked up and realised the person backing her would now be pulling out. ‘That was an extremely interesting press conference. I’m pleased you were stopped from going on the flight.’
‘You shouldn’t have bought her a ticket,’ said Jamie, looking shiftily away. ‘She shouldn’t be going anywhere.’
‘You’ll find, young James,’ said Squirrel, scrolling down his phone. ‘She should be leaving the country to avoid the amount of poo poo she has just stepped in. I always knew Sam Price was gay. I could tell.’
‘That’s not what she needs to hear, right now,’ Bill said, sitting down as Molly slowly sat up. ‘I think Molly needs to go away to let me sort this out.’
‘You don’t want to work with me, do you?’ she said sadly, seeing Jamie’s smile begin to fade. ‘I’ve blown it. Punching Sam Price in public.’
‘Not necessarily,’ Bill said, taking her hand in his. Molly noticed Jamie scowled. ‘Bert is going to be a boxer and it’s pretty impressive that his owner can throw a knockout punch.’
‘I should have aimed for his head.’
‘Not his face,’ Squirrel said, shaking his head. ‘That’s where the money is.’
‘I know when she does it, it hurts,’ said Jamie.
‘Get on a plane. Take four weeks to relax and recoup then pre-production starts in May, and this will be old news.’ Bill then put her hand in Jamie’s. ‘When you fainted that night, I-.’
‘She fainted,’ Jamie said, looking anxiously at Molly. ‘Why didn’t you tell me?’
‘I forgot,’ she shrugged, stroking his face.
‘Ah, how sweet,’ Squirrel said as Kim sat down at the table next to him. She noticed her lecherous cousin give the woman a flirtatious look. And more shockingly, Kim reciprocated. ‘It’s amazing how people get together.’
‘You had your phone in your hand and I saw the footage. Then I forwarded it to my phone,’ Bill said, shrugging. ‘Sorry, but I thought we’d need it for something like this. I also took the footage to my lawyers and spoke to your ex-employers on your behalf. They shouldn’t have treated you that way. Do you know they blacklisted you from being approached to work at other companies? That’s why we went to who we did because they hadn’t been told otherwise. That’s pretty serious. You’ve been an unwilling victim, and it’s all down to Sam Price negotiating his new contract. This is what Hamish and he planned from when the news broke about the incident. I’m so sorry Molly.’
‘That’s disgusting,’ said Jamie, looking visibly angry and squeezing her hand.
She didn’t know what to think.
It was far worse than she had expected.
‘I see,’ she said gulping back her tears.
‘I’ll sort it out for you,’ Bill said gently. ‘Kim will help and when you come back, things will change. You’ll get an apology, and we’ll sort out a financial settlement for what they did. It’s only fair.’
Molly looked at Jamie, who was staring at her.
‘I’ve arrange for you to get the three o’clock flight this afternoon, so you need to get to the airport.’ Bill then stood up, leaning down to kiss her on the cheek. ‘It’s great publicity, it really is. And who says it’s not true about fiery redheads. I better get back to Beatrice.’
‘I’ll drive you to the airport,’ Squirrel said happily then looked at Kim. ‘Would you like to come to the fundraiser this evening? Molly arranged it and afterwards, we can go out for a spot of something to eat.’
‘That would be lovely,’ she grinned.
Molly tilted her head at Jamie’s glum expression.
‘You better go,’ he said before standing up and walking out of the place.
It was going to be very hard to get on the plane, knowing who she was leaving behind.
‘Passport and ticket.’
Jamie had checked her in.
All she did was cry at the departure gate.
‘Jamie,’ she said, looking up at him. ‘I love you.’
‘I know.’
‘Thank you for today. You were amazing!’
‘You’re welcome.’
Then he hugged her tightly as she sobbed some more.
‘People are going to think you’re missing me already,’ he whispered into her hair. ‘Look, I have to go.’
‘Sure,’ she said sniffling her tears back. ‘Good luck for tonight.’
Stroking her face he gently kissed her lips.
Molly lunged at him, nearly making him topple backwards. She pushed her tongue deeply into his mouth, tasting and wanting him more than ever. It was Jamie who gently pushed her away.
‘Get on that plane and have a good time,’ he said, kissing her face. ‘I love you, Molly.’
Nodding her head, she went through customs and was stopped, as per usual. After they had screened and scanned her, she walked into the departure lounge and sat down.
Bill had booked her in the VIP lounge, but she preferred to sit and watch the people pass by.
And she was missing Jamie.
He had been very sweet and bought her a new phone, managing to rescue her sim card. She looked at it not knowing how to work the thing. The flight would give her enough time to figure it out.
Now she wished she was in bed with Jamie, huddled under the duvet making love.
It occurred to Molly he might meet someone and forget about her.
Maybe he did love her and would wait.
Or maybe it was another lie.
Right now, Molly didn’t know what to think.
Her flight was called, and she walked through the crowded terminal towards the gate, handing over h
er documents and walked onto the plane, hoping when she returned things would be good again.
And mostly, Jamie Cohen would be waiting for her.
‘Thank you.’
Molly sat down in her first-class seat. Any other time she’d have been delighted, but today the thrill had been lost on her.
April Fools’ Day had taken an interesting turn.
She closed her eyes, and all she could see was Jamie’s smiling face.
And she could hear his laugh tinkling in her ears.
Deep down, she didn’t want to go and suddenly wondered if she could get off the plane.
But she had to go, just to keep a low profile.
‘Move over,’ she heard and darted her eyes wide open. ‘Come on!’ Jamie was leaning over her. ‘Or do you want me to sit by the window?’
‘Jamie’ she exclaimed, trying to get up but she’d buckled up her seat belt.
‘Ah, you’ve not forgotten me then.’
Quickly she unsnapped her buckle, jumping into his arms, kissing his face.
‘She’s pleased to see me,’ he said to the other passengers.
He moved around her, sitting her down and doing the same.
‘You thought you’d get away that easily?’ he laughed, kissing her face. ‘I remember sitting on the plane weeks ago and there was an empty seat next to me. It made me feel sick because I knew, deep down, you should have been there.’
‘Oh god, I love you,’ she said, trying to catch his lips with hers.
‘And then I spent all that time on the beach, trying to rub suntan lotion on my back. I thought it’s not much fun travelling alone because every time I closed my eyes, I thought about you.’ Jamie laughed. ‘I asked a lady boy but they charged.’
‘You’re trying to be romantic,’ she sighed, feeling her heart pound.
‘And I smuggled something on.’ He darted around and pulled out her puppet. ‘He said he needed a break.’
‘My Bert!’ she sighed, cuddling him.
‘Obviously, I couldn’t bring Daisy’s ashes. That would be too much to explain.’ He let out a sigh and took the puppet out of her arms. ‘Have you forgiven me for being a deceitful prick?’
‘I have. Didn’t I show you this morning how much I loved you?’
‘Be careful,’ he hissed, readjusting his trousers. ‘You’re making me excited.’
‘Good.’
‘I’m far better looking than that queer one you were with,’ he smirked. ‘I know I am.’
‘Jamie don’t let me down. I know you’ll try not to but-.’
‘Listen to me,’ he said, kissing her lips gently. ‘I’m letting Mr Mac and Rene do the opening, along with Squirrel, who has also charmed your agent out to dinner.’
‘They’re probably be talking about their fees.’
‘My brother still loves me but he decided to give Bill the money I owed. David knew I was dabbling with Chloe, and I have truly learnt my lesson. He’s going to make me work like a dog to pay him back.’ Jamie grinned. ‘And I also, sort of, took the money from his account to pay for your building works.’
‘Jamie! That’s not good!’
‘I had to do something,’ he squirmed. ‘You didn’t want the cash and I had to say I was sorry.’
‘By stealing from your brother?’
‘Borrowing.’
‘Anything else I need to know?’ She smiled at his beautiful face and rosebud lips, wanting to kiss them again and again. ‘Tell me now when I’m in a reasonably good mood.’
‘Molly Drew, you know I love you. That rhymes too. I’m a genius today!’
‘And I love you,’ she said, her heart bursting as she heard the engines of the plane start up. ‘Even though you are a little so and so.'
‘And if you’re really lucky,’ he whispered. ‘You might just get it three times again.’
‘My romantic fool.’
