Cypher Theorem Series Box Set: Books 1-3, The Zero Class, Shadow Moon, Dragon Fire: A Science Fiction Fantasy Page 60

by Mark Brandon Powell

Tyler looks over to Vernon, and then back to Gon. He steps out of the way, and leans in to whisper to him, “If you get them hurt, I will come after you myself.”

Gon blows smoke at Tyler, “Speak for yourself human,” and walks out the door.

Vernon asks, “What was that about?”

“Nothing you need to know. Yet. How’s Marie doing?”

“Same as yesterday, but I think Gon just helped her.”

  “Oh yea, how’s that.”

“He said he could smell drigh blood on her, so he got rid of it.”

  “Dragon’s fire huh.”

“Yea, is there something that you’re leaving out that I need to know.”

“Like I said, nothing yet. I did come here to talk to you though, about your first mission.”

  “Ok, talk.”

“You are officially on suspension facing a possible jailing sentence.”

  “What!?”

“Look, just keep your nose clean for now. This is nothing special, you did what was needed to get the job done, but you stepped on toes when you did.”

  “I did?”

“For now, you can’t leave the city, without my authorization. Just stay here, help her get better, and I will help you out with the hearing. Your captain should be down here later to give you the orders. I’ll be here when he does, because I know it’s the last thing that you need is to see Adonis right now.”

Vernon puts his head into his hands, and rubs them around. “This can’t be happening.”

“It’s alright Vernon, Paladins do what is necessary, and you did that. Now just keep low, and I will get back with you later, ok?”

Vernon lets out a sigh, “Don’t have much choice, do I?”

  “Nope.”

“Then I will be here, like I was planning on, but now I have that to think about. Thanks.”

Tyler gives him a weak smiles, and leaves the room.

Vernon sinks into his chair, laying his head back onto the rest. He goes through all the things that happened to him while he was on the case, and can’t think of anything he did that was illegal. Sure he took some weapons, but he registered them. He throws his hands up in the air, and rubs his hair.

The doctor comes back in a little later in the day, brining some test results.

“So I have good news, and bad. Which would you like first?”

  Vernon says, “The bad.”

“Marie is healthy, and all the test are negative.”

“Alright, then what’s the good news?”

  “She’s pregnant, congratulations.”

  “She’s is, but how?”

“I don’t think I need to explain to you how. The fetus is a week old. Our tests have gotten really accurate these days. It might not stick, but as of right now, she is.”

Marie starts to shuffle around in bed. The doctor rushes over to her, and starts to check on her vitals. Her mouth starts to move, open and close, and her eyes flutter open.

  She says, “Vernon.”

Please take the time to leave a review.

Reviews help a simple writer like me pay for advertising so I can get more people to find my work. So the more I have the better, and it helps give me the ability to keep writing.

So thank you for the time, and the review.

My whole life I had a large imagination. When I played, with my Legos or running around outside with my friends, it wasn’t just playing. I was in a different place, I was making worlds. I would dream up stories and settings, where I would normally be the lead, or at least be looking through their eyes. Playing video games was a normalcy for the escape into some uncharted and untold world where adventure awaited, which fueled my own creations.

Insomnia had been a problem for me most of my life. This was another area that I was able to fill the space with waking dreams, praying that I would be able to get to sleep. It wasn't till I met my wife in July 2011 that I really started to contemplate what I wanted to do with my life. She was able to show me how happy I could be, just by coming into my life. So I figured that I could, and should, do that for my professional life.

I started to read more books. I had been a visual entertainment consumer for much of my life, even though most of my gaming consisted of role playing games, of a heavily text base nature. Not having the visual feedback was a different feel. I liked it.

It wasn’t until after reading a few self-help books that I started contemplating what made me happy and how I might be able to turn that into a career. In August of 2012 I had a long conversation with my wife, who was supportive of the idea, and I started to write.

Cypher Theorem: The Zero Class was finished and self-published on October 5th of 2013. From there it’s all history.
