He said nothing as he shifted to kneel between her parted thighs. She opened to him, feeling the heavy coil of hot anticipation low in her stomach. Her body clenched around the mental image of his hard length pushing into her, spreading her, filling her.
Eric put his hands beneath her bottom, lifted her to meet his thrust, and then paused with the thick head of his cock pressed against her flesh as the change took him. He stared directly into her eyes, challenging her to once again recognize what he was, what he would always be.
She met his gaze directly, and when the change was complete, Donna slid her attention down to his impressive erection. “Come in from the cold, vampire.”
With an inarticulate sound, he pushed into her. His thrusts were hard, desperate, and as he plunged into her again and again, he opened his thoughts to her.
She arched her body, trying to take more of him, tears mixing with her shattering orgasm. She could never walk away from his love and the fear of losing her she’d seen in his mind.
Donna closed her eyes, quieted her breathing, and spoke to him. “I don’t want to spend my pitifully few human years with you.” Even with her eyes still closed, she felt his shudder. He thought she was rejecting his love. She hurried on. “I want to spend centuries and centuries with you.” She opened her eyes.
“I love you, Eric Mackenzie, and tonight I will become vampire.”
His reaction was a hiss of denial as he swung his feet to the floor and sat up. “No. I won’t—”
“I’m the mistress of my own destiny—jeez, I sound like I’m reciting an epic poem—and the choice is mine.” She moved to sit beside him.
“I can’t give you—”
“Children? When the time is right, we’ll love a child that no one else wants. A child doesn’t have to come from my body for me to love it.”
“Your family will—”
“Still love and accept me. No matter how they feel about my life choice, they’ll always love me. Of course, Trish will be wildly jealous that I fell in love in less than two weeks.”
“You love your job and—”
“I’ve already talked to them. I’ll only be working Saturday and Sunday nights from now on. And I’ll be broadcasting from here. My boss has already confirmed it with the castle’s owner and the Houston affiliate.”
“I can’t ask you to—”
“You’re not asking, Eric. I’m telling you. I love you. You’re stuck with me. And that’s that.”
His smile was shaky. “I can’t cry, talk-show lady, but consider what you see in my eyes tears.”
And what she saw was a love to cherish throughout their immortal lives.
She opened the insulated box and took out the syringe with Taurin’s blood in it. “This is Taurin’s blood.”
He stiffened.
“This is his wedding gift to us, Eric. Put aside pride and accept it. Because of what he’s giving us, we’ll be together forever.” Her smile was getting a little watery. “Just think, you’ll spend centuries with a stubborn wife, but hey, I like to dress up in bustiers and high-heeled boots. And I wield a mean whip.”
She handed him the syringe and the cord he needed to tie off her arm above her elbow. “This is my gift to you. I’ve spent my whole life trying to control everything in my life. This time I want you to be in control. I want you to be the one who turns me. Do it. Now.”
Eric leaned over to brush his lips across her mouth, telling her without words what her gift meant to him. “You won’t manifest all of your vampire characteristics immediately. It’ll take about a week before you’re completely turned. Tonight all you’ll notice is the increased clarity of your senses.”
He said nothing as he prepared her, but as he began to inject her with Taurin’s blood, he met her gaze. “I’ll love you for the rest of my life, whether it be two minutes or two thousand years.”
While Taurin’s blood flowed into her, she pushed back all of her new life’s uncertainties, and remembered Napoleon’s quote: “The most dangerous moment comes with victory.”
Then it was done, and as she felt the first surge of her enhanced senses, she turned to the vampire she loved. “I’m ready to play Dominatrix Donna now. Afterward, we’ll wake everyone up to pass on the happy news. I get to wake up Holgarth.” She savored the thought of all the nights to come stretching into the far distant future. “Tomorrow night we’ll finish off the cherries.”
Beside the bed, Sweetie Pie and Jessica put out new shoots in celebration.
And outside her door, Sparkle and Asima high-fived.
