“You need to stop, Callie. Right now.”

Of course that makes me laugh harder, even the threat of my throat hurting like crazy later doesn’t stop me. I feel him swerve to the side, hit the brakes, unclip his seatbelt and then his mouth is on mine. Hot and possessive. Wet and hard. Dirty and sinful.

Seconds from climbing onto his lap, he pulls his lips from mine, albeit reluctantly. “You drive me totally crazy.”

“Mmm.” My brains turned to mush. “Can you do that again?”

I close my eyes in pleasure as he caresses my face. “I’d love nothing more than kissing you again, but I’m kind of worked up so I’m thinking it’s going to be best if we carry on to the apartment.”

Glancing at his groin I see what he means. “Okay.”

  “Good girl.”

  ~ * ~

The sound of Donovan shouting in the apartment is what greets us as Reece pushes the door open. “You need to go home, Mara and get outta my hair. I don’t want you here and all you’re going to do is cause problems for Reece.”

This isn’t good and if the poor girl has a crush on Donovan then his words will break her heart.

I push past a frozen Reece and walk into the apartment. They both freeze and turn to me, Donovan looking pissed and Mara looks like she is ready to burst into tears. But she pulls herself together and proceeds to ignore Donovan, who keeps looking at her. Is he trying to catch her eye? I don’t know Donovan that well, apart from the sex thing, but it looks like he either regrets his words to her or he regrets Reece and me hearing them.

As no one seems ready to break the silence, I move forward and sit beside Mara on the sofa. “Hi, I’m Callie. You’re brother’s girlfriend.”

  Her eyes widen. “That’s a first… Its…”

“Don’t be a bitch, Mara,” Reece growls, and I notice Donovan tense. Hmm.

Mara takes a deep breath and ignoring her brother looks back to me. “I was about to say, it’s nice to finally meet the girl whose managed to capture my brother, but now, although it’s still nice to meet you, are you sure you can’t do better than him?”

I glance to Reece who looks ready to bust a gasket. “There isn’t anyone better than my guy.”

“Okay, Mara. What’s going on? Why are you here instead of at home with Mom?” Reece asks her pacing back and forth in front of us.

“I want to go to college here. I’ve spoken with the college back home and they’ve emailed all my files, or whatever, to the college here. So, I’m all set. All I need is somewhere to live,” she announces this so quickly I’m hoping Reece followed the gist of what she said because I don’t think she’s going to want to repeat it.

“You can’t stay here with Donovan and me, plus Callie is moving in with me.” He shakes his head.

“Why can’t I move in here? You have a sleeper sofa. What’s the problem?” she asks looking so innocent.

I hide my grin behind my hand.

“I might be your brother, but Donovan is no relation and the last thing I want is to find you in his bed. For god’s sake, Mara he’s eight years older than you, there is no way you can stay here.”

“Now wait a minute,” Donovan interrupts not looking happy, “Yeah, I’m eight years older than her, but there is no way she’ll ever be found in my bed. She’s like a sister. What’s happened to trust?”

“Fuck.” Reece is still pacing and now he’s rubbing his neck in frustration. “I’m sorry,” he says to Donovan.

“I need to calm down,” he tells the room in general before looking back at his sister. But you can tell he’s losing his steam as he stares at his deflated sister. “Stay here for now, but we’ll talk tomorrow when I’m not so tired and I expect you to talk and not shout as well. Donovan can referee.”

  “Gee, thanks.”

Hoping this confrontation is over with for today, I stand and walk to Donovan who hugs me, and whispers, “Are you alright?”

  “Yeah,” I whisper back.

“Get off my girl and go and get your own damn girl.” Reece looks at Mara again. “And not my sister.”

I roll my eyes and taking his hand lead him back out of the apartment after saying our goodbyes to everyone, hoping he manages to keep his temper tomorrow.

Walking down the stairs to the exit, I nearly plow into Reece, who stops dead in his tracks. He turns around to steady me, and keeping his hands on my arms, he says, “I love you.”

I smile and taking hold of his face, place a kiss to each of his eyes, then his nose and ending with a soft touch of our lips. “I love you, too.”

“You’re not going to leave me, right?”

I start to laugh when I realize he’s serious. “I’m moving in with you. Does that say I’m leaving you?”

“I’ve never had this, and everything with you terrifies the life out of me.”

He makes my heart squeeze, seeing these cracks in his badass exterior. “This between us frightens me as well. I know I don’t say it, but it’s a big step we’re taking…and we’ll take it together.”

“Together… I promise,” he says, sealing his promise with a kiss.

  Chapter 30

  Mara

Watching my brother leave with his girl makes me want to pack my bags and follow him. Anything other than staying here with him. I’ve been in love with him for as long as I can remember. Yeah, I had a schoolgirl crush on him, but my feelings have grown into something more. Into love. My heart breaks every time he says something that I don’t want to hear. Like he doesn’t want me here, well, that is something I know already without him shouting it at me. I mean he’s been the most un-hospitable person ever.

Turning up on his doorstep in tears, you’d think that he’d have hugged me, but not Donovan. He’d clenched his jaw, opened the door wider so I could enter and then asked “What have you done now, Mara?” Because it was me. I’d needed a hug and I’d needed someone to listen to me, but he wasn’t willing to do either.

Ever since I turned sixteen he’s kept his distance and always stays well out of my way when he comes home with the guys and visits with Reece. It hurts. It hurts a lot.

Out of the three musketeers, Donovan is the most laid back, but not with me. With me, he acts like I have the plague or something.

Since the door shut behind my brother, Donovan’s been standing across the room alternatively glaring at me and looking out of the window.

My bedroom is calling because all I want to do is lock myself away and cry. He’s never going to look at me the way I want him to. I can’t stay here anymore. I’ve only been here a few days, but I can’t stay here and watch him be with someone else. It’ll hurt too much. And he’s made it clear that he doesn’t want me and never will.

A tear escapes as I quickly get to my feet and make for my room.

  “Mara…”

I stop with my hand on the door handle refusing to look back at him. “What?”

Goose bumps form on my arms as I feel him walk up behind me, a breath away from touching me. It’s difficult to breathe with him being so close. I rest my forehead against the door as Donovan surrounds me with his heat, resting his forearms at either side of my head causing his chest to rest softly against my back.

“Mara… I’m going to move out.” He clears his throat. “I’ve already found somewhere so I’ll be leaving in about a week.”

My breath catches in my throat because I wasn’t expecting him to say that.

“It’s not right, us both living here together without Reece being here. People will get the wrong idea… Mara, please look at me.”

Shaking my head, a shiver wracks my body when he nuzzles my hair from my face and breathes on my neck. It feels as though he’s about to kiss me or it might be wishful thinking on my part.

“I’m too old for you,” he whispers so close to my ear that lightening shoots straight to my core and my nipples pucker, desperate for his touch. “Mara,” he trails along my neck with his lips, “are you listening to me?” He nips my ear
lobe with his teeth as his hand lands on my hip.

  “Mmm,” I reply, breathless.

Releasing the handle, I place both my hands on the door in front of me and push back slightly, making full body contact with Donovan, who sounds as though the air has just left his body. He’s solid against me. Rock hard and I don’t just mean his abs.

The hand on my hip slides around and he splays his fingers against my belly, which is fluttering with butterflies. His other hand covers mine on the door as our fingers entwine. I’ve never felt so hot, wet, aching – aroused.

Donovan drops his head to the curve of my neck and breathes – heavily. “You’re killing me.”

He briefly presses me closer to him before letting me go, albeit reluctantly.

“I’m sorry. I can’t do this. It won’t happen again,” he apologizes and then I hear his bedroom door slam shut.

My tears start to flow from my eyes as I slowly push my way into my bedroom and closing the door behind me, I lie across the bed and cry.

Now I know he isn’t indifferent to me, it’s going to hurt all the more knowing he isn’t willing to do anything about it.

  Chapter 31

  Donovan

  Fuck!

I slam into my bedroom and just stand in the middle of the room not knowing what the fuck to do with myself. I promised Reece I’d stay away from his sister and what do I go and do? I go and practically pin her to the door with every intention of loving her. Loving her.

She’s Reece’s baby sister and is a total no. I’ve managed to keep her at a distance for years, but the fact is, she drives me totally insane and only has to look in my direction to give me an erection from hell. She thinks or rather thought that I don’t like her, but the truth is I’m fucking obsessed with her. I’m obsessed with an eighteen year old virgin…at least I presume she’s a virgin. I scowl at the thought of anyone else touching her because she belongs with me. Dammit to hell!

Dropping down on top of my bed, I catch my breath because I’d forgotten about the problem in my jeans, which I refuse to take care of myself. If I took care of it I wouldn’t get the relief that I’d get between her sexy thighs so why settle for second best.

My erection throbs so rolling over onto my back I hope for some kind of relief while I clear my thoughts of Mara. Sweet Mara.

Fuck this. Jumping up from the bed and grabbing my gym bag, I walk back out into the living area and hunt around for my sneakers, which I kicked off when I’d crashed out on the sofa last night.

Spotting them under one of the stools at the breakfast bar, I drop my bag and I’m about to reach for them when I spot Mara standing just outside her bedroom door watching me.

Wondering what the hell is going through her mind as she continues to watch me, I reach down and collect my sneakers, tossing them into my bag.

She looks lost, which makes my heart drop like lead to my feet. All I want to do is walk over to where she’s standing and wrap her up in my arms and tell her I’m never letting go, but instead, I turn my back on her pretending to look for my keys, which I know are in the dish by the door.

“Donovan, you can stop ignoring me. I know this is awkward, but it’s only a week, right? We’re both adults so I’m sure we can act like it.” She turns away, but not before I watch her wipe a tear from her face. Making me feel like the biggest jerk around.

After promising Reece I’d stay away from his little sister three years ago, I’d gone and lead with my heart, earlier and now she couldn’t even look at me, and I’ve upset her. If she has any of the feelings that I have for her then she’s feeling crushed as though a vice is crushing her heart because that’s how I’m feeling.

  “Mara…”

“Please Donovan. Let’s just try and forget what happened earlier and move on. I’m at college on Monday so I’ll make new friends my own age. You don’t have anything to worry about.” She disappears into her bedroom, closing the door behind her.

Make friends my own age. You don’t have anything to worry about.

Her words have frozen me to the spot as I feel my anger slowly rising. I’ll kill any fucker who so much as looks in her direction and look they will, with her long dark hair, slim curvy figure and legs that seem to go on for miles even though she’s shorter than me. She’s the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen and the only woman that’s ever taken root in my heart apart from my mother. She’s also the only woman that I can’t be with, and that tears me in two.

  Epilogue

  Reece

  (4 weeks later)

“Callie, you have to promise me you’ll behave tonight. No more interfering with Mara and her…new friend.” Yeah, I struggle to say ‘new friend’ because I’m not sure I actually like him, but seeing the way Donovan scowls every time he sees them together before he disappears, makes me keep pushing them closer together. I can’t even remember his name, which actually says it all. But my best friend is eight years older than my baby sister, plus I know what he’s like, so yeah, I want to keep him away from her.

Creeping up on me, my girl smacks me across the back of my head. “Stop trying to push her together with Mr. Straight and Boring. He looks vanilla and Mara needs…” she meets my gaze and smirks, “someone like you who knows where he’s going. Someone who’ll cherish and love her forever.” She grins. “Someone who knows exactly how to make her scream in pleasure.”

I cringe when she finishes. “I really don’t want to hear my sister in the same comment about someone making her scream in pleasure…that’s not normal.”

“What’s not normal, her screaming in pleasure? Or you making me scream?” Callie comments slipping her hand into the front of my pants.

“I love making you scream, babe, but hearing ‘screaming in pleasure’ when you’re referring to my sister knocks me sick.”

She squeezes my erection and meets my gaze. “You’re being stupid, you know. She’s eighteen, nearly nineteen.”

My breath catches in my throat as she runs her finger around the tip of my dick before starting to play with the silver, which drives me crazy. “Can we stop talking about my sister while you have your hands on my cock?”

“I’m about to have my mouth on it,” she tells me unzipping my pants, kneeling in front of me when my erection springs free straight into her waiting mouth.

Hell! She’s so damn good with her mouth. Her mouth is pure torture when I’m on stage, unable to take my eyes from her. The things she does to a longneck with her tongue has me so fucking hard that it’s become embarrassing on more than one occasion, and the minute I leave the stage I have her locked in the restroom while I ease the tension that has built within us both.

“Mmm. You taste good.” She lick’s around the leaking tip, flicking the ring at the same time as she squeezes my balls, which sends pure fire racing along my throbbing dick. I lengthen and thicken in excitement.

  “Callie,” I warn.

Holy fuck! She sucks me down her throat continuing to play with my balls while she uses her other hand to jack me off. I can’t stop the blood roaring through me anymore.

“Oh god,” I pant. My cock starts jerking in her mouth. “Ahhhh…oh fuck…fucking bastard…” Release after release of cum shoots out of me. She drains me. Every last fucking drop she takes in her mouth before licking me clean.

When she starts playing with the silver with her tongue, I move her head away knowing we don’t have time for round two, but she knows when we get back later that it will all be about her.

With legs feeling like Jell-O, I lean against the wall with my pants still around my ankles, which Callie takes hold of and starts pulling back up when something falls out of my pocket. Something I’d rather not have her finding before I’m ready.

She freezes before reaching for it and placing it in the palm of her hand. “Reece?”

“Fuck, Callie. You’re not supposed to have seen that until later…and I’m sure as hell not proposing with my pants around my ankles and my cock in all its glory winki
ng at you.”

She blinks then starts laughing. “Winking at me… Wait a minute. What did you just say?” Landing on her sweet, little ass she looks up at me waiting for a reply.

Sighing, I yank my pants up and fastening them, I go down on to one knee in front of her, taking the ring from her hand. Holding the ring out toward her, I tell her what I feel, “I love you. I love you so much that I don’t know what to do with my feelings for you half the time. I’m not asking you to marry me tomorrow because I have a feeling you’re not ready for that, but I want to make a permanent commitment to you. I want you to know that the minute you say you’re ready that I’ll have you in front of a minister so quickly you won’t be able to catch your breath. Will you marry me, Callie…some time in the future?”

She bursts into tears at the same time as she nods her head. Throwing her arms around, she says, “Yes… Yes, I’ll marry you.”

  Thank fuck!

  Callie

Unable to stop looking at my ring, we walk into the museum for a showing of some artwork from the University, which Mara is part of.

When my ring catches the light it sparkles and comes alive. I’ve never seen anything as pretty as my platinum ring with an emerald surrounded by small diamonds. It’s out of this world and was one hell of a surprise.

He loves me. That is the one thing I’m sure of. Because he doesn’t just tell me, he shows me. In everything he does for me, from collecting my dry cleaning to going out late at night for a tub of Ben and Jerry’s.

And I love him just as much. Making his lunch for work should tell him how much I love him, even doing his washing. I really hated being domesticated before I moved in with Reece and now if I’m honest, I love it. He knows it as well because I’ve caught his grin once or twice when I’ve announced I was making dinner. Up to now though if he’s home he’s always helped in the kitchen, which sometimes can take forever to get anything made once he sets his mind on eating me instead.
