Dangerously Close Page 33

by Dee J. Adams

Stunned, Ashley shook her head. She put her hands out and waved him off, her eyes wide in fear. No way could she face a crowd of sixty thousand people in this giant stadium.

Mel just grinned at her. “C’mon out here, Ash.” He turned back to the crowd. “Help me out, Paris, my wife is shy.”

The crowd went nuts and Ashley felt a little shove from behind as Greg pushed her forward. “Don’t leave him hanging there,” he ordered over the din. “It’s not good for business.”

Ashley made her way on stage and the crowd showed their appreciation with a fresh roar. “What are you doing?” She had to yell over the din.

“You’ll see,” he told her with a devious smile.

Rick, his guitar tech, brought out another stool and Mel had her sit. Ashley felt her face flush as she settled in. One look at the thousands of people in front of her sent butterflies swirling in her stomach.

“Like I said, tonight’s a special night,” Mel said into the microphone. “Ashley married me six months ago today.” Her eyes widened again. She hadn’t even realized the date. The tour had been so hectic and almost like an extended honeymoon that she hadn’t even thought about it. “In honor of the occasion and the woman who inspires me every day, I’d like to sing her this song.” He played the opening chords of “Ashley Here with Me” and the crowd lost it. Just as quickly as they roared, they quieted to hear the words.

Ashley hadn’t really heard the song the first time she’d seen the unauthorized version on the Internet. But now she heard it every time Mel played it during a concert, and every time it brought tears to her eyes. Just like now as he sang the last four verses:

You came into my life, a shooting star

You brought hope and faith to this old heart

And I’ll tell you this forever is real

You’re making me think, you’re making me feel

So here I am all alone with you

There’s nowhere else I’d rather be

As long as I’ve got Ashley here with me.

  It wasn’t easy to conceive

You’re the one who made me believe

And I won’t ever leave your side

I’ll be with you ’til the day I die.

So here I am all alone with you

There’s nowhere else I’d rather be

As long as I’ve got Ashley lovin’ me.

Mel played the last lingering notes of the song and Ashley wiped her eyes as the crowd showed their appreciation. She didn’t wait for Mel to pull the guitar over his head, she got up and laid a kiss on his lips so hot it made the expensive pyrotechnics of the show look like sparklers.

Pulling back, Mel looked deep into her eyes. “I love you, baby.”

She loved him more than she thought possible. It grew every day and she reveled in the bond they shared. She loved their laughter and their jokes and mostly she loved making love with him every night. She cherished their time together and lived each day to the fullest, just as she’d always wanted to.

The crowd had started a chant and Ashley realized they weren’t yelling, “Seger, Seger…” they were shouting, “Kiss her, kiss her.”

Ashley lifted the guitar from Mel’s hands and handed it to Rick, who’d come onstage for that exact reason. Rick scurried off and she slipped her arms around Mel’s neck. “Greg says we have to give the crowd what they want. It’s bad for business otherwise.”

Mel wrapped his arms around her waist. “Greg’s a smart man.”

Then a large portion of Paris witnessed just how much he loved his wife.

Four hours later, Mel once again had his lips planted on Ashley’s, but this time they were alone in their suite and the only roaring came from the rush of excitement coursing through his veins. Ashley rode him perfectly and Mel struggled to hold back his climax, a damn hard thing to do as her breasts bobbed and his fingers glided over her soft, slick skin. When she finally tensed and gave in to her own orgasm, Mel let go and gave her everything. Sweet euphoria drenched him as every molecule seemed to separate and leave him deaf, dumb and blind. A couple minutes later, he came back to himself as Ashley’s comfortable weight rested on his chest. Mel wrapped her in a tight hug, his love for her more profound as every day passed. She mumbled something in his chest, but he didn’t hear it.

  “What?”

She blew some hair out of her mouth and rested her chin on her hand. “I said, ‘Admit it. You love me.’”

No truer words had ever been spoken. Mel grinned. He had too many things to be happy about. “Fine. I admit it. I love you. So what are you going to do about it?”

She narrowed her eyes as a devilish smile spread across her face. “Guess you’ll have to wait a lifetime to find out.” She lifted off him, but didn’t lie next to him.

“In the meantime,” she said, slowly moving between his legs. “I think it’s best to show you exactly how I feel about you.”

It didn’t matter that they’d already made love twice. As soon as Ashley set her mouth to his flesh, his thought process flew out the window and his dick made an encore performance. Though he couldn’t be sure, because the roaring in his ears had started again, he thought he heard Ashley mutter one thing.

  “Rock-n-roll, babe. Rock and roll.”

  About the Author

Born in El Paso, Texas, Dee always had a wild imagination. After graduating high school, she moved to Los Angeles to pursue acting. Her longest-running success was a series of Tide commercials in the late ’90s. For twenty years, she acted in television before transitioning behind the scenes as an acting/dialogue coach for sitcoms.

Writing happened accidentally after a vivid dream and the urging of her husband to “just write it down.” Three weeks, fourteen hours a day, and four hundred and fifty (longhand) pages later, she had her first novel. Dee loves writing books filled with action, mystery and love. (Not necessarily in that order.) She is the wife of a wonderful man and mother to a fabulous daughter. She’s a dog lover all the way—due in part to a deathly allergy to cats—with a fondness towards boxers and pit bulls. She is a member of several organizations, including Romance Writers of America, Screen Actors Guild and American Federation of Television and Radio Artists.
