  Monuglu’s nod is barely perceptible.

  Altay’s dress rustles, and then, for a moment, there is no other sound but Abrahim’s murmuring. Monuglu leans forward, his hands rooted on the desk, watching the woman gather the boy in her arms. Travers nods to Monuglu and then follows Altay. He pauses ten feet from the door when Abrahim raises his head and lifts his eyes to the ceiling. The boy’s glistening face catches light from the garden window.
