Past Capture Part 1

“So George, are you interested?” Linda wagged her eyebrows in a knowing fashion. These ladies certainly had a lot of time on their hands and after finding out she was divorced and single, had it in their minds to set her up. Not that Rose minded. She was not pushed into a blind date yet.
“Nope.” Rose smiled. Hearing Joy and Elizabeth sigh, even Marianne released a short breath, Rose laughed. “What’s wrong with George?”
“He’s at least nine years older than you.”
“And he has thick eyebrows.”
“Beady little eyes.”
“Bad breath.”
“Boring salesman.”
“He has a wart on his back.” Everybody stilled looking at Marianne sipping her tea pleasantly like she did not just drop a bomb. Rose had an inkling that Marianne knows a lot about everybody. The old lady misses nothing.
“Poor George. What did he do to you ladies?” Rose ignored the comment about such a personal topic about his wart and poured the ladies some tea with a traditional looking tea pot. Just like the one in Beauty and the Beast. She didn’t buy it of course. The ladies brought things over like the three tier tray, flowers and among other things. Her living room, where they conduct the club, resembled an English drawing room. Not that she hated it of course, Rose adored classic movies.
Joy rolled her eyes. “He tried to sell my grandson fake Rolexes. Like my Ricky would fall for that. Ha!”
“He stepped on me.” Linda waved a hand airily. “Let’s say he’ll never do it again.” The ladies crooned and laughed.
The morning past by like any other and by lunch she was free.
“Sorry, ladies, I have a commitment today with a young rascal.” Joy smiled brightly.
“Oh you young thing. Me and Marianne are going grocery shopping.” Elizabeth returned. “Perhaps we’ll have a baking day. Anyone interested?”
“Ah, I have a meeting as well, so count me out.” Linda waved and was gone in her red convertible.
“Oh, that old witch is hiding something.” Elizabeth shook her head and laughed. Linda’s words may be harsh but all four ladies adored each other. They grew up together and met again after twenty years living apart. It seemed that Charlestown was a place for miracles.
“And you my dear?” Elizabeth batted her lashes at Rose.
Rose laughed. “Sorry, I have lunch with a feisty designer.” The women all clucked their tongue and giggled. Gina was definitely a spoiled little grandchild to them, unruly and overzealous gossiper. Rose was like a child that every mother loves and Gina was one that everyone spoiled. Of course, Rose was never jealous which the ladies always secretly adored and admired.
“Oh that’s too bad. Send Ginny our love!” Rose kissed their cheeks and the ladies wobbled to their cars.
