Chapter 8

I woke up in a brightly lit room. I closed my eyes and groaned. I had a pounding headache and felt nauseous. I vomited.

Nate, are you there? I thought. No answer, that was not good. Nate always responded to one of us when we sent him a thought.

I finally opened my eyes. The room was bright white. My hands were tied behind my back with duck tape. My legs were taped to the chair legs. I heard a door open and I flinched at the sound.

"Oh, good you're awake," a male voice said. I looked up. The guy looked about thirty. He had brown hair and a goatee. That was all I had time to process before I vomited again. "Subject 3-1-4 is vomiting after reduction of electricity." It took me a moment to realize what he said.

  "Wait, what?" I asked.

"Oh, yes," he said. "When we obtained you, Copycat wished for me to attempt to reduce your powers. I have done that successfully and now I am seeing how your body responds to it. And you are the only one who seems to be suffering a negative side effect from the procedure."

"I lost my electricity." I said, mostly to myself.

"No, not lost but it has been reduced temporarily with a drug I created," he said.

"Dr. Victor Van Lake, Subject 1-5-9 needs to be subdued," a female voice said over an intercom.

"Well, I need to go now. Somebody will be in to clean up the mess and then to escort you to the bathrooms for you to wash yourself up," he said. I heard the door open and closed, but it wasn't as bad as last time.

My head was still pounding, but I didn't feel like vomiting. I wasn't sure if I was finally getting used to it, my electricity was coming back, or if Nate was helping me. But, I was grateful, whatever it was. I fell asleep after a minute.

I woke up when I heard the door open again. This time I felt twice as bad as I did before. I felt extremely cold, even though I could feel my hair being plastered to my head. I could hardly keep my eyes open. I had double vision. There were two nurses that kept swapping with each other. I vomited again.

She was talking to me as she removed the duck tape from my wrists and legs. I knew it should have been painful since it was on bare skin, but I felt nothing. My body was numb with coldness. I was pulled up and made to walk. I stumbled to where they pulled me to. I was placed in a room that had a toilet, a shower, a table, and a couple of chairs. The floor was tile. I laid next the toilet and curled up into a ball. I went back to sleep and heard the door open. This one was much quieter, but it still squealed. I cringed.

"You can't do this," I heard a voice yell. The noise made my hurt so badly that I vomited again. "Who's there?" the voice asked.

"Sky," I moaned. I heard footsteps come near me.

"Oh, God, Sky," the voice said. "You're burning up." I felt hands hurriedly strip the clothes off of me before I passed out.
