Ismail looks to his father and says, “I think I’d rather face the Tof and Rooke’s then talk to diplomats.”
Mohammed smiles, saying, “Sometimes the battle is only half done until the diplomats settle on the results.”
Benton smiles and says, “Yeah, I hate diplomats too, so let’s go get a beer.”
Mohammed smiles and says, “Brother you’ll never change.”
Four months later, Carla has since freed Qui Shi of her Meli piece, and is once again in her base on Earth with Abe, and as she has done every day in the past, she concentrates and tries to locate any sign of her mother and brother. She scans thousands of minds until she finally picks up a stray thought, which catches her attention. A man was thinking about a cargo ship being loaded with stasis chamber equipment to be sent out to the furthest point of known space, but as she focuses, she hears a stray thought from Abe, which distracts her. Abe’s thought, “Damn, she gets more beautiful every day.”
Carla stunned, drops out of her psychic realm, dropping to the ground, she turns to Abe and asks, “What was that you just thought?”
Abe smiles and says, “What? I wasn't thinking anything.”
Carla grabs Abe and kisses him.
