“I think I deserve a full kiss on the lips, after what happened tonight and what I agreed to go along with.” He sounded angry, but he had a glimmer in his eyes.
Sneaky on his part, but she wanted to kiss him anyway. She wet her lips and placed a soft kiss on his, afraid to press too hard. Visions of last night entered her mind. Eyes, filled with desire. Hands, gentle with compassion. Cock, engorged with need.
Without words, he’d made her feel like a desirable woman. Someone to be loved and cherished. A feeling she’d never felt with any other man, a feeling coming back to her now as she started to sit up straight.
He grasped her wrists, refused to let her retreat any farther. His eyes blazed with fire. Anger? Passion?
Slow and smooth, he ran his hands up her arms, leaving goose bumps in their wake. He shifted in the bed. Covers fell to his waist and muscles bulged under the thin hospital gown. Sitting up, he slipped his hands in her hair and pulled her to him. He covered her mouth with his soft tender lips, still a tad swollen.
She worked her lips opened and closed in gentle sweeps. A hoarse moan vibrated through her ear and tickled her neck. Tongues brushed, sending warmth to her core. Even sick, Noah knew how to use his mouth to turn her into mush.
Their arrangement hadn’t included sex, but she wanted to feel him again. Wanted him to hold her and make gentle love. Needed to experience the lover she’d discovered him to be.
Faint beeps in the background reminded her they were in a hospital. Her arms wrapped around his back, electric currents jolted her fingers as she felt his bare skin. She had to stop now or she’d find out what it was like to have sex outside of her house. Never had she imagined giving her body to someone away from the safety of her bedroom walls, let alone in public. Until tonight.
“Noah,” she whispered between kisses.
“What?” His breath ragged.
“I can’t do this.” Even though curtains hung down around the bed and no one could see them, a nurse or doctor could walk through the door. Then they’d be the gossip of the late night shift at the hospital. Or even worse, her mother might find out. The next few weeks would be filled with early morning wake up calls and forced pregnancy tests.
Fear of being caught was supposed to be half the fun of sex in public, but somehow it wasn’t fun or exciting. Just plain scary. Yet, she missed his hands when he released her and lay back down.
Disappointment etched Noah’s strong jaw line.
“I’m sorry. I don’t feel comfortable—”
“Don’t worry about it. I made you feel guilty and asked for a kiss. You obliged, I get it.”
“That’s not true. I wanted to kiss you, I just don’t want to…to…” Oh hell, he obviously knew how to pleasure a woman. That kind of knowledge came from experience, not a book. How could she keep him happy? Satisfied? Faithful? She let out a sigh and shook her head to get a grip on her thoughts. Of course she couldn’t keep him— anything. He wasn’t hers to keep, and he’d leave her in thirteen days, right after the reunion.
“Sleep with me again? Is that the phrase you’re searching for?” he spit out.
No! But if she told him the truth, she would sleep with him again and again. And before she knew it, thirteen days would be up and her heart would belong to Noah Kittler. The man her family saw as cross-dresser Sam White. Not only was her family a problem, Noah hadn’t said he wanted to date her anyway. If he did, he’d eventually be disappointed with her sexually. Lying to protect her heart made sense right now, but she wasn’t ready to give up the best sex she’d ever had either.
“No, that’s not what I’m searching for.” She ran her palm across his chest.
He took her hand in his and held it. “Then what are you trying to say?”
“We’re in a hospital. Nurses or doctors could walk in at any second and you want me to get naked.”
His brows quirked and a wicked grin crossed his lips. “Why not? I’m pretty much there already.”
She smiled and laughed at his evening attire. The hospital gown looked silly on his large frame and she could only imagine what he’d look like in a dress. “I’m just not into getting naked in public.”
“Good. I’m not excited about women who do.”
A pent up breath she hadn’t been aware of escaped her throat. Maybe he wasn’t into kinky stuff after all. Maybe she wouldn’t bore him. Plus, she was a decent looking woman with a large enough cup size. Her C’s turned heads; they just didn’t hold the attention like a DD pinup girl. All in all, her body image had soared since Tyler’d moved out and she’d started taking care of herself.
She kissed his forehead and walked out of his room with her head in the clouds and the illusion she’d created in full swing.

Finally. Rita gave Val a nod and greeted her when she walked past the nurse’s desk. Of course, she wasn’t going to make her leave. The more time the two love birds spent together, the better. Why was that child waiting to get knocked up?
She grabbed Sam’s chart and walked into his room. “Good evening,” she read his last name, “Mr. White. I’m Rita, your nurse.”
“Hello, Rita.”
She looked up from the chart and swallowed her gum. Judith had said his name was Sam White, but this was not the hunk she’d seen rolled into the ICU. Coughing, she pounded her chest. What the hell? According to the chart, Sam had just been wheeled in from surgery. Surgery for a boob job.
It was late in the evening to have plastic surgery, but Dr. Monroe moonlighted at the hospital and preferred to perform sex changes when fewer people were around. It kept protesters of his practices in the dark. Usually patients were taken to the recovery room after surgery, but tonight they were short handed in that unit.
“That was one pretty lady visiting you.” She eyed him as she took his vitals. Had Val turned gay too? That last guy was a jerk if she’d ever seen one. And an ugly pervert too. Maybe she’d had one too many heartbreaks.
Sam’s eyes narrowed and he rolled his head on his pillow. “Huh?”
He must still be drugged from his procedure. She stifled a giggle. Some incident at dinner. Who was Judith trying to kid? By now she should know they were on the same side. That asshole of a father had caused enough pain to both of them.
She swallowed hard thinking about the nasty old man attempting to rape her for the sake of having a son. The bastard. Good thing she’d taken self defense classes and learned enough to escape. Just not without an accidental fall down the stairs that left her barren.
A knot formed in her stomach as she made her last notes in his chart. She’d have to make her move now or else the plan wouldn’t work. And it better work, because if anyone found out…Well, she couldn’t think about that.
Pulling a syringe out of her pocket, she injected the medication into his IV tube. “This is something to help calm your nerves. Your heart beat is a bit elevated and we’d like to see it lowered. I’ll be back in about ten minutes to check on you. Now try to relax.” You’ll be back asleep in no time.
She touched his arm and hesitated, then left his room.
What’s done is done. Deceiving Val tore at her heart and created flutters in her stomach. That bastard Walter Jordan needed to pay for what he’d done to her. She just hated using innocent people to inflict revenge. But Walter didn’t care if he used innocent people to get what he wanted. Chauvinistic pig. After Judith had a grandson in her arms, the two of them would get their just reward, and Walter could rot in hell for all of eternity.
She returned to Sam’s room to find him out cold and checked his pulse again. Nice and strong. He lay still as she removed the covers and exposed his genitals. Oh my gosh. It was the smallest penis she’d ever seen. Well, size didn’t really matter, only the sperm count.
She applied numbing medication to his scrotum and waited until it had time to take effect. The last thing she needed was for him to wake up and catch her in the act of stealing his sperm.
When she was sure his go
ods were numb, she stuck him with the syringe and carefully extracted enough sperm to conduct the test. Good thing she’d worked in a fertility office for years trying to learn all she could for herself. Otherwise she’d have no clue what she was doing.
Thanks to Walter, she’d never been able to have children of her own. She’d volunteered for every new drug and procedure the doctors offered and still, nothing had worked. Well, the knowledge had paid off this time. She put the sample in a cup and rushed out on her lunch break. The sperm would only be good for a short period of time, and she didn’t plan on messing this up.

Val returned to the waiting room after a cup of coffee and a stale donut, hoping her family had gone home. Wrong. They sat waiting for her.
“How’s Sam doing?” Her father took the lead.
“Good. Swelling is going down. He was awake and alert.” Probably because you guys think he wears women’s panties. “Rita’s working tonight. She said the doctor said he could go home tomorrow, but he’ll have to be signed out in someone’s care and looked after for seventy-two hours.”
Her mother smiled from ear to ear. “That’s great news, honey. I’m glad he gets to come home. I was so worried, and I felt terrible for this whole ordeal. Is he upset with me?”
“No, Mom, he’s not mad. He just needs some rest. Why don’t you guys go on home and do the same?”
Bree put her magazine down and stood up. “I think that’s a great idea. Mom, you and Dad go on home. I’ll give Val a lift back to her place.”
When she’d ridden in the ambulance, how she’d get back home had never crossed her mind. She’d been thinking of Noah’s safety. “Thanks, sis.”
Once they were buckled up and headed away from the hospital, Bree turned to look at her for a second.
“Why don’t I take you to Sam’s? That way you can grab some things for him. I’ve noticed he doesn’t leave things at your house. Like a toothbrush or anything.”
Shit! How could she have been so stupid? Of course a guy would leave things like a backup razor or underwear. She’d have to make up another excuse. “Well, I’m not sure we’re at that stage yet.”
“Oh, come on! Even I can see the man’s a hottie. You and your stupid stages. It doesn’t matter what stage you’re in, you’ve had sex with him. Hell, I would have sex with him.”
She felt her face grow warm, thinking of last night.
“See, you’re blushing. And that means not only did you screw him, but he rocked your world. Now tell me where he lives, so we can get some things for him.”
“There’s no need for that. It’s getting late and you should be getting home.”
“Nonsense, it’s what family does. It’s not like a have a job or anything to rush off to in the morning. Besides, I’m dying to see what he wears on stage.”
“Bree, I already told you he’s not a cross-dresser.”
“Listen, you might be my big sister, but I’m not a kid anymore. I’m twenty-three and I’ve had more sexual partners than you’ll ever have.”
“What does that have to do with anything?”
“It means you don’t have to protect me or lie about this.”
Funny. It was the only thing she wasn’t lying about, but if she took Bree to his house, maybe she’d believe her when there were no women’s clothes hanging around. Luckily, when she’d filled out the paperwork, she’d recognized his address and knew the house. The area had struck her odd, seeing that she had followed Tyler a few nights to the same road, only a few miles down from that house, where she found him and some slut going at it.
“It’s an old dirt road off of Boonville Highway.”
“There, that wasn’t so hard.”
Silence filled the rest of the drive except for when she informed Bree of a turn or two. They pulled into his long gravel drive leading to his two story farm house. Thankfully darkness surrounded the countryside and the sign for Kittler Auto Shop wasn’t illuminated.
A cool breeze blew across her skin. Stars lit up the clear night sky and the smell of honeysuckle permeated the air. She wrapped her arms around herself and soaked up the comfortable atmosphere.
“Come on. I’m dying to see inside.”
Bree might believe she’d grown up, but she was still impatient and immature. Hopefully, she’d grow out of it one day. Everyone thought she’d settle down after college. Graduation had come and gone over a year ago and still there were no signs of settling down from her wild ways. Jobless, she lived off an allowance their parents gave her.
She twisted the door knob and found it locked. “It’s locked, and I don’t have my key. Let’s go.”
“Wait.” Bree reached down and lifted the mat. “Tell Sam to get a new hiding spot.” She picked up the key and unlocked the door, walked inside, and felt the wall for a light switch.
Thank God, Bree was impatient. Otherwise she would have looked pretty stupid not knowing where the light was.
The front door opened into a small mudroom. Dirty boots littered the floor and grease stained jackets hung on pegs. Beyond the mudroom was a large eat-in kitchen with an old wooden built-in hutch.
All in all, no signs of female life in the kitchen. Dirty dishes sat in the sink and a few glasses were on the table. The trash needed to go out and the appliances could use a wipe down.
At the back of the kitchen and to the right was another doorway leading to the living room. Bree had already entered and switched on a floor lamp.
“He’s not much for cleaning, is he? I’m surprised you’d date a man who wasn’t spotless.” Bree wiped her finger across a bookshelf and looked at the dust. “He sure has a lot of books on cars.”
“I told you he’s a manly man.”
“Oh yeah? What do you call this?”
She stepped farther into the living room. A large curio cabinet sat in the corner. Knick-knacks, picture frames and Depression glass filled the shelves. She was taken aback, but had to act normal. Lie again. “I told you his grandmother passed away. The cabinet and everything was hers. Don’t give Sam a hard time over it. He’s not ready to talk about it yet.” Neither was she ready to tell him his grandmother died of cancer a month ago. Cancer kept family close and left little time for anything else. She had always pulled the ‘he went to help his grandma’ card when she needed an excuse.
“Well, there is some really old glassware in here.” Bree walked away from the cabinet and made her way up the narrow staircase.
Hopefully Bree would pick the correct room first, or else she would have some more explaining to do when she didn’t know which room was the master bedroom.
“Holy shit! Don’t tell me Sam’s not a little freaky.”
She stepped inside his bedroom. Pink blankets and pillows covered the bed. Thigh high boots and stilettos were scattered on the floor. Bree opened his drawers and closet, pulling out sexy dresses, lingerie, and pink panties. Feather boas of all colors draped over the bedpost.
“Oh snap! It’s a jackpot in here.” Bree opened a chest from the bottom of the closet. “Bondage cuffs, gels and liquids, anal beads, vibrating nipple clamps—”
“That’s enough.” She took the things from Bree’s hands, dumped them back in the chest and closed the lid. A cloud in her illusion dissipated. Kinky wasn’t the word for Noah.
Stripper costumes hung everywhere. An angel, a butterfly, a flapper dress. Even a cowgirl with chaps and a lasso.
What the hell? No way had Noah worn these clothes, but someone did. The lying bastard had a girlfriend! Or even worse, a wife. No wonder he’d given her his business number.
Men. They were all assholes.
“What are you so upset about?” Bree dipped her eyebrows and her mouth hung open. “He already discussed his fetish with me and Mom. Guess what? No one really cares. Which surprises me, but go figure. Now grab some male clothes and his toothbrush and let’s go home, since you won’t let me look.”
“Fine.” She grabbed some things and stormed downstairs.
/> Why did he go to speed dating if he already had a woman? He’d said he wasn’t married. Maybe he wasn’t, but he sure had someone. The whole room smelled like sex. Rumpled sheets and lotions by the bed. And he’d had the audacity to get mad at her for not doing the dirty deed in his hospital bed. The nerve of some people!
For the next seventy-two hours she’d keep an eye on him, since her mother had almost killed him. It was the least she could do. But after that, Noah Kittler could go to hell with all the other men in this world. And she might put him there herself.
Chapter 8
Bree swung her hips on the way to the liquor cabinet, hoping she wouldn’t throw out her back. “Can I get you two a drink?” she asked Lexi and Blade, who were sitting on the couch when she’d come home.
“Did you just offer to get me a drink, Princess?” Blade stopped fondling Lexi’s breast and fell back into the couch, acting like he’d had a heart attack.
“What’s so shocking about that?” She took out three shot glasses and a bottle of tequila. To execute her plan successfully, she’d need to be drunk off her ass.
While she poured three shots, the two of them went back to groping and kissing.
She tried to control the anger coursing through her body. Lexi Galen was her woman. Where did she get off screwing other people in front of her? Even though she’d walked in on them, they couldn’t have cared less. She and Lexi had been together for a year and the whole time she’d tolerated her wandering ways. She wished Lexi would commit to only her, but she refused.
Bree tipped the shot and liquid warmed her throat, burned all the way down. She coughed and slapped her chest, then drank another.
“It’s getting hot in here.” Pacing the apartment floor she and Lexi shared, she threw dagger-like glares at them. Or at least she tried. Neither one had picked up their drink after she’d gone through the trouble of serving them.
Ungrateful bitch. She’d show her. She’d show them all. Lexi, Val and her mother.
