Seeing him whole, perfect, and on his knees…I desired him.

One look at him told me he was a young man on the verge of ruination, of being an addict and a slave to his passions. He was on Marco’s arm, and was introduced as Marco’s boy. The next time I saw him, he was Marco’s marked and branded property. One moment he was free, the next he was not. He’s flawless, or he used to be. Now he’s just damaged goods. Just another piece of property owned by the Reaper Brotherhood drug cartel.

Chase is just another wasted statistic, or he should’ve been if not for my hasty intervention. I made the worst mistake any up-and-coming monster could’ve made. I wanted him so much that even after he’s no longer perfect, I still wanted to save him from his inevitable doom.

  Prologue

  Kade

“Brother, thank you for stopping by,” said the pale and skinny punk covering the front door of the house.

Tiny craters blanketed the bits and pieces of unhealthy skin on him not covered in badly done ink or piercings. Bloodshot eyes, barely there, drooped when the rest of my men stood on either side of me. A druggie, and the kid had the guts to call me brother.

“The boss apologizes for asking you to come on short notice.”

I cracked both of my scarred knuckles. Despite the music pumping through the speakers behind him, the young man jumped at the popping noise. I watched his eyes dart nervously to me, the armed men flanking me, and back to the anxious partygoers leaving at the sight of us. I grabbed a handful of his shirt and slammed him hard against the wall.

The gyrating, sweat-soaked, and young bodies continued to dance to the pulsing music inside, unaware of the commotion I just caused. I didn’t need to check to know most of the barely legal young men and women, our potential prey and loyal customers, possessed the same glazed look this kid had. The Reaper Brotherhood dealt with the poison. Shed blood and lives over it, but I fucking hate junkies.

“Do you know who I am, punk?” I hissed at his face. The kid managed a nod, even though he looked like he was about to piss in his pants. “Say my name.”

“Kade Michaels,” he whispered. The smell of piss mingled with the smell of vomit, musk, and sweat. Disgusted, I let him go. His eyes widened to the size of plates when I whipped out a sharp hunting knife from my jacket. “Oh, God.”

“You have no right to call me brother. You’re nothing but a useless piece of shit, and we don’t accept your kind into the Brotherhood. If I ever hear you call Marco boss, I’ll cut out your tongue from your mouth. Understood? Marco is nothing but a bottom-feeding dealer.” He nodded furiously. “Where the fuck is the bastard?”

“Inside.” He whimpered when I pressed the tip of the blade against his throat.

“I don’t want monosyllabic answers. Where inside?”

“I-I don’t know. I swear. He’s walking around, showing off his new boy.”

He crumpled against the wall, his face pale, gasping when I kicked at his ribs.

“Next time, be a better bouncer, unless you want the fucking cops to come sniffing around.”

I made a mental note to tell Keith to tighten up security around these parties. Shit. I might need to spare some of my damn men. If this kept up, word was bound to reach the cops about the parties the Brotherhood sold R to.

  “Where is Marco?”

I shook up more punks. Told my men to split up, and finally managed to wrangle information from Bernie, a scared kid new to Marco’s circle.

“He’s in the kitchen, romancing his new boy,” Bernie muttered, looking sheet white.

I let go of him and went in search of the kitchen. The house was huge. One of the new properties in Angel Falls, the rich part of town, leased out by an up-and-coming developer who cared more about cash than reputation. I pushed my way past young men and women in various states of undress. Waded past empty beer cans, half-eaten junk food wrappers, and torn condom foils. Here and there, in shadowed corners, I caught glimpses of half-smiles and quick hands dealing our poison, Rapture, along with the usual drugs.

On the dining room table, a dazed and naked man in his mid-twenties lay on his back while two blondes snorted R from his left thigh. In the kitchen, I found Marco. The sleazy dealer leaned against the wall, breathing hard, his eyes closed. Marco groaned, gripping the hair of the slender and shirtless young man I estimated to be in his early twenties, kneeling in front of him, licking at fine dust of R on the tip of his cock.

  Lucky bastard.

“Marco, we need to talk.” I growled.

The bastard opened his eyes, his annoyance fleeing once he caught sight of who spoke to him. His supplier.

“Care to explain to me how the three men you vouched for got arrested by the fucking cops?”

“Kade.” Marco swallowed. “Chase, get the fuck off my cock.”

The young man, Chase, didn’t listen. He yelped when Marco angrily pushed him away.

“You don’t have to be such an asshole, Marco.” Chase stood, pouting. Then he gave me a curious look. He licked his lips. I smiled back. “Why don’t you introduce your handsome and hot friend?”

“Shut your fucking trap,” Marco hissed. Chase stiffened, about to walk away, but Marco grabbed his arm and whispered something in his ear.

“Okay,” Chase whispered. His excited look reminded me of an eager puppy.

I waited for him to walk away before I turned to Marco. That was the first time I met him. Chase. The architect of my undoing. I would play the same role for him, although we both didn’t know it yet.

I hadn’t paid Chase much attention the first time I saw him. He was like all the others in the scene—obnoxiously young, reckless, and hopelessly naïve. Barely legal jailbait. Chase was intent on being stuck between sinner and saint, angel and whore, with his boyish looks and golden body.

One look at him told me he was a young man on the verge of ruination, of being an addict and a slave of his passions. Growing up with a brother who was one of the area’s drug lords, I’ve seen thousands of young men and women fall hard like he did. Young men like Chase presume they know the risks playing in our world, and that arrogance is what we predators count on.

As he hung on Marco’s arm, he was introduced as Marco’s boy. The next time I saw him, he was Marco’s marked and branded property. One moment, he was free. The next, he was not. He’s flawless, or he used to be. Now he’s just damaged goods. Just another piece of property owned by the Reaper Brotherhood.

Chase is just another wasted statistic, or he should’ve been, if not for my hasty intervention. I made the worst mistake any up-and-coming monster could’ve made. Seeing him, whole and perfect on his knees with Marco, I desired him, wanted him so much that even after he’s no longer perfect, I still wanted to save him from his inevitable doom.

  Chapter One

  Kade

“Take it all, you nasty dog.” Marco’s voice cut through the crowd like a knife.

I stood beside my brother, Keith, a
looming silent and scarred shadow while he spoke to the local businessman who ran a few of the neighborhood’s strip joints and to whom we had been supplying for a number of years.

The man’s name escaped me, but I didn’t need to know. I just needed to know whether he was a threat to Keith and the business. Keith was the brains of our operation, and I was just the muscle. Our arrangement worked just fine, like clockwork.

  “Shut up and suck, hole.”

Finally, I spared a glance to where Marco, his men, and a group of men and women were standing at the corner of the room. With my attention on them, I could finally make out the whimpers and pleas coming from the naked young man causing all the commotion.

Marco was one of the Brotherhood’s best dealers, but I never liked him. Sloppy as hell, Marco treated everyone like shit, especially the cocks and pussies belonging to the Brotherhood. This one was no exception. On his knees, the young man struggled to suck Marco’s cock while Marco jerked the leash connected to the collar on the man’s neck.

Meanwhile, one of Marco’s men hit the young man with a flogger from behind They made one hell of a noise despite the loud music spilling through the room. Shit. A commotion had been the last thing we needed, especially with the rumors I’d been hearing about cops mysteriously getting tipped off about some of our dealers.

“Kade, could you remind Marco to keep it down?” Keith asked, clearly annoyed.

Taking a long pull of my beer, I sighed and ambled over to Marco. I shook my head when some of my men looked my way. This was my problem to handle.

“Why, if it isn’t Kade? Care to join us, big man?” Marco asked as the crowd parted for me. He took his cock out from the boy’s mouth while his associate stopped the whipping. Marco kept the leash wrapped around his arm, though.

Given my bulk and size, it hadn’t been hard to push through the crowd. Most knew me on sight as Keith’s head enforcer.

It took me a second to place the protesting and sweat-slicked boy Marco had been rutting. I remembered Chase because of his ridiculous name. Wondered what kind of mother would name her kid that. This time, there was no smirk on his young face. No teasing.

Just a thick leather dog collar on his neck with a little silver tag I had a feeling bore Marco’s name. The sounds coming out of his young, cum-covered mouth hadn’t been sounds of pleasure. Chase hoarsely pleaded, cried, and whimpered like a dog being beaten to death.

The last time I’d seen him had been a month ago. It only took thirty days for Marco to break him down from a human being to an object.

“Keith wants you to keep the noise down. He has important guests to attend to,” I said coldly. Something darted to my leg.

Chase. He’d somehow managed to pry his leash from Marco’s arm, and it now dangled to the ground. Big blue eyes too lucid for my taste looked up at me pleadingly from beneath long lashes. They’re supposed to be drug-filled eyes, the eyes of someone far too gone to notice reality. His hands clutched tightly at my left leg with surprising strength.

  “Please. Please make them stop.”

Those eyes held all the remains of the once innocent and reckless young man Marco all but destroyed. Childlike hope lingered there. So did desperation and mounting despair. I looked down at him with merciless and unimpressed eyes and wondered what he saw.

Did he see the monster lurking there? Did Chase have any idea how the way he clung to me made my cock stir in my jeans? Did he know how his submission woke the base, dark, and depraved parts of me I loathed?

Without understanding why, I fisted my hand into his fine blonde hair, jerked him up until he let out a gasp.

“Did you think I came here to save you, pup?” I asked in a mocking voice. “Do you think I’m a better choice than Marco? Do you know what I do to sick, drug-addicted young men like you?”

To make my point, my hands lingered on the wide leather belt I wore.

  “No,” Chase whispered.

Tears gathered behind his eyes, on the verge of falling. I suddenly wanted to slide my belt out, position him so his ass could take the tender mercies I was about to inflict on it. Would he squirm? Would he cry and beg for the mercy that would never come as the crowd egged me on while I punished him for his impudence?

“God, no.” His voice was hardly a whisper.

Was I that transparent? Did he somehow suspect I was different from the scum who’d acquire him? Did he know I could break him so thoroughly, he’d be craving the pain despite his tears, as much as I craved his tears?

He shivered, dropping his gaze. Disgusted, I let him go, and he quickly backed away from me. Marco laughed, and his cronies followed like a mismatched symphony as Chase bumped into his legs. Marco may be his tormentor, but he was familiar territory. I was uncertain grounds.

“Sorry, Kade. He’s new, and I haven’t completely broken him in yet,” Marco said, grabbing hold of the leash and tugging it violently until Chase let out a choking sound of protest. “We’ll take the dog upstairs so the boss and you can do business.”

The job was done, but I didn’t leave. I’ve seen hundreds of young men like Chase, victims who fell prey to the men their parents warned them about, to men of the Brotherhood who got them hooked on drugs. Boys pretending to be men, who didn’t know they were caught in a trap until they realize one day they’re no longer free human beings, but modern sex slaves dependent on their pimps.

I admit I didn’t give a flying fuck about these young men and women. This was the world I grew up in, and things like this were normal. In the Reaper Brotherhood, we have a saying. The Brotherhood feeds you, takes good care of you, and puts you to the ground. Once you’re in, you’re in. You never get out. The only way to rise above it is to cement your position and claim your place.

“Marco,” I said, unsure where these words were coming from. Perhaps they came from the deep recesses of my mind I’ve locked away ever since Charlie, my first sub, died.

Seeing Chase again opened those floodgates. Marco had no clue what he was doing, and he wasn’t capable of making anyone crave his cruelty. He was crude and simple. Marco would never master Chase, even though he thought he’d truly broken the young man’s mind and body. He couldn’t comprehend the notion that someone’s submission was just another form of seduction.

To successfully reduce a human being to a compliant object, I had to see Chase as a puzzle. I’d acquire him and take him to dark places he never knew existed. I’d push his boundaries and peel him, layer by layer, until there was only a quivering thin layer left.

Marco halted. For the first time, unease flittered across his features. “You need something else, man?”

  “How much for your pup?”

He looked surprised by my question. “You looking for a new toy, Kade? I have a fresh crop of boys, all twenty-one and over. Take your pick. I’ve gotten rather fond of this one.”

Marco pulled Chase’s body to him, tugging at his cock. This time, Chase no longer fought him. Chase slumped against him, groaning. The young body had abuse written over it. Bruises and bites lined its expanse, but those marks could fade with the passing of time.

“I want this one,” I said.

For the first time, an ugly expression crossed his face. What really pissed me off was the ink right over Chase’s left pectoral, near his nipple. Chase had been made someone else’s possession, but I intended to do the same.

What I said to Chase was the hard truth. I didn’t intervene because I wanted to save him. There had been no justifiable, noble reason. I simply wanted to claim Chase as mine. To savage the remains of the young man Marco had cracked but not broken. If there was any breaking to be done, then I should be the one to break Chase.

“Kade,” Marco said tersely, noticing, perhaps, the ravenous way I was openly looking at Chase. Chase noticed, too, and clung desperately to Marco, finally recognizing Marco was the lesser monster. “You have a reputation.”

“Do I?” I asked pleasantly. “Enlighten me.”

  His men gat
hered around him, noticing the tension in the air, but I didn’t need to guard my back because I knew my own had begun making their way to me. Marco’s men were hustlers, two-bit security who didn’t know the first thing about using a gun. Like me, most of my men were ex-military. We killed for a living.

I rested one hand on the butt of the revolver tucked in my belt. Marco’s eyes narrowed at the implied threat.

“They say you’re one sick, greedy bastard, and no one knows what happens to your fucking toys after you’re done with them.”

“I don’t see what’s the fucking big deal, Marco,” I said pleasantly. “It’s clear to everyone here that your boy is causing you problems. So why don’t you let me take him off your hands? I’ll be in charge of his training from now on.”

Marco’s jaw tightened. He had a gun tucked inside his jacket, too, but we both knew the outcome if it came to a fight. Marco might be scum, but he wasn’t dumb. He’d been in the trade long enough to know when he’s fighting a losing battle.

“You want this dog, fine.” He shoved Chase away from him. “But you owe me big for this, Kade. He was special to me.”

Chase cried out, stumbling on his two wobbly feet. I almost gave myself away and tried to catch him before he fell, but I didn’t. I let him fall at my feet. Before thoughts of escape started filling Chase’s mind, I gripped his collar.

“Thank you,” I told Marco, showing teeth and meaning it.

The reality of his situation must have sunk in because Chase began struggling against my hand. He was no longer a pathetic begging creature, but a panicked animal eager to escape the predator who caught him.

Chase kicked, screamed a number of obscenities, but I easily gripped his failing arms above his head. He dangled like a fish, legs continuing to lash at me. So much unexpected fight left in him. Fight I thought Marco had all but beaten out.

  Wonderful.

“Let go of me, you bastard,” he screeched.

“Let’s get one thing straight here, Chase. From today onwards, you’re my slave. If you call me bastard one more time, I will be forced to make an example of you in front of all these people who want to see some real entertainment.”
