She groaned into my mouth and kissed me back with mounting urgency, small gasps of air brushing against my lips as she let her tongue slip between them.
A sharp cry pulled us apart with a jerk.
I looked down at Astrid, who wailed with fury at being ignored.
“Sorry, baby,” Annabel cooed. She deftly shifted Astrid to her other breast and reclined against the headboard with a small groan. “Seriously, how is it this hot when there’s a damn blizzard rolling in? Is there some other mythological doomsday coming y’all have forgotten to tell me about?”
I shifted my weight to my hip so I could lean more firmly against her and brush my hand over her forehead. “There are no more mythological doomsdays.”
She leaned into me with a soft moan, eyelids fluttering at the contact. She nuzzled in close again, lips skimming over my shoulder, encouraging me to pet and stroke her face and body with small noises.
It wasn’t until I leaned in to kiss the side of her neck and she let out an involuntary moan that she clocked on.
With a suddenness that made Astrid squeak in protest, Annabel jerked back and stared at me, wide-eyed. “Oh my God! It’s a damn heat, isn’t it? I’m in heat?”
The accusatory note to her voice didn’t go unnoticed.
“You are,” I agreed.
She looked from me to the baby in her arms and sighed. “If any of you get me pregnant again, we’re going to talk to your dad about how he managed to give birth that one time. I know it was to an eight-legged foal, but I’m willing to risk it.”
My only response was to kiss her forehead.
After a little while, Annabel said, “When… When we go through it, will you…?”
“Will I what?” I asked, even though I knew. The soft tremble in her voice betrayed her vulnerability, even if she refused to look at me.
“Will you claim me? I know you didn’t want to when we first…” She sucked in a deep breath. “If it is not something you want, then you don’t have to. I love you, with or without that bond.”
My little mate. She knew how I’d struggled with the intimacy our connection brought—with being laid bare for her.
I grabbed her chin between my thumb and index finger and gently turned her face to me. Her lovely, chocolate eyes met mine, and my heart shuddered in response to the question written in them.
“There is nothing I want more in this world than to mark you as mine,” I said quietly. “You were born to be mine, Annabel. My soul was forged for yours. I do not fear you, my mate. Not anymore. Never again. You have given me everything. Everything. So yes, tonight I will claim you again. And then me and my brethren will pleasure you until you are sated and full, and our souls are wound together forevermore. That is what I want.”
A pretty blush spread on Annabel’s already heated cheeks, but she said, “I want that too, Grim.”
I pecked her lips and glanced down at the still-nursing baby on her breast. “She does eat a lot.”
Annabel chuckled and leaned her head against mine, a contented sigh escaping her as she too looked at our daughter. “She’ll sleep eventually. And then, Grim Lokisson—then you and the others are going to show me how a Goddess of Love should be worshipped.”
And we did.
But I want more!
