When Maran entered the kitchen, Quema stood for her.

  “Good afternoon, meister.”

“Good afternoon, Quema. The Kurfurstin has recognized Union rules for the drifters. You know what that means. I want the humans paid and I want the humans to get better sleeping conditions. Justice happens now. No more wage slaves. No more disappearing. No more abuses. No more Reckoning.”

Quema beamed with pride. “Welcome back, Meister Maran. It’s good to have a Loam back in the kitchen.”

“It’s good to be back,” said Maran.

Maran's story continues in Standing Between Earth and Heaven.
