Chronicles Of The Apocalypse Page 6

by Simon Neilson

We are an independent organisation set up to allow people who are trapped by this infection to reach out and request help.

At present there are no relief funds or rescue teams organised by the government to assist people in dire need of help. Whilst there are still phone lines and internet connections, we hope to give people the opportunity to say where they are.

We will play these recordings on a loop in the hope that the government and security services can reach you so that you can be evacuated to a safe facility.

This is the Voice Of Hope channel, please leave your message by visiting www.voiceofhope.com forward slash messages.

  Stay safe. Help will come…..

  CHAPTER 47

The British Prime Minister finally delivers a message to the nation, though it would not be the message they were hoping for.

People of the United Kingdom. This is your Prime Minister.

The infection that has ravaged our great nation has forced us to set up safe camps.

It was hoped that by now we would have an answer to this infection, but sadly this is not the case. From the reports I am receiving it is obvious that although the safe camps are assisting many people, there are thousands of others who are unable to get help or who are trapped.

It is estimated that over seventy percent of the population is infected.

We are unable to receive help from other nations as it appears this infection has gone global with other countries battling the same nightmare that we have faced.

For those housed in safe camps I have arranged for transportation to some of our overseas territories in the Channel Islands, Gibraltar and the Falkland Islands. We shall also be able to use some of the islands set off our shores for safe shelter, such as the Isle of Man, Isle of Wight, the Scilly Isles, Shetlands and the Orkneys.

I am afraid I can offer no help to those trapped outside the safe camps.

Let me repeat. I am ordering the immediate evacuation of the United Kingdom. Those who are left behind. I pray for you and I wish I could do something more worthwhile.

  With a heavy heart.

  Prime Minister Alana Greenidge.

  CHAPTER 48

The National Post receives some disturbing news from the United Kingdom. It is getting harder to find news reports these days as the internet slows down and the television channels only show looped broadcasts. I fear this may be one of the last broadcasts from the National Post.

The infection that has gripped the United Kingdom has now spread worldwide, this information has come directly from the World Health Council.

This epidemic has now reached every continent, with some countries free of the infection completely closing their borders.

The United Kingdom is now undergoing a mass evacuation with overseas territories being used to house those held in the secured safe camps.

…..And…we have some breaking news just reaching us.

The British Prime Minister has allegedly taken her own life due to the pressure of the infection outbreak. A note has been found by one of her cabinet ministers earlier today and we are being told she was found hanging in her study at Downing Street.

At present we do not have any other details and with media and news stations finding it harder to transmit, this may well be one of our last reports from the National Post.

  May God Bless Us All……

  CHAPTER 49

The little girl rescued from South London, Jasmine O’Neill, had hit a soft spot with my colleague, Dr. McNamara.

Jasmine was about to receive some great news, although not everybody would be in the same, privileged position as she was.

  Dear Diary,

The lady doctor came to see me today. She sat on the end of my bed and told me that all the people who were being held in safe areas were going to be taken away to somewhere safe. Somewhere out of the country. She said that there were islands we could go to where there was no infection.

I asked her about my mum and dad and she looked down at the floor and told me I would be going on my own. She never said they were dead, but I know they are.

I have never been out of England before. Maybe this new place will mean that I can play outside again.

  Jasmine O’Neill – aged 14 – And I’m not scared anymore.

  CHAPTER 50

Anna and Emily were about to come across some hope. These two young girls and battled across South London looking for help. Help may just about to be around the corner.

Emily: So do you trust him?

  Anna: He seems ok

  Emily: Are you recording?

  Anna: Yes

Emily: Where did he say he was going to take us?

  Anna: The Isle of Wight.

  Emily: Where is that?

Anna: Just off the south coast.

Emily: Will that boat take us all the way?

Anna: You do ask a lot of questions.

  Emily: I know.

Anna: Didn’t you listen to what he said?

Emily: Yes but I didn’t understand.

Anna: The River Thames leads out to the sea and then the boat will follow the coast line round until we reach the Isle of Wight

Emily: He’s got a funny name.

Anna: Yes and he speaks posh.

  Emily: What are you doing?

Anna: I can see him waving us onto the boat. It’s time to go.

  Emily: Ok.

Anna: We need to record a goodbye message and then I am leaving this here. You go first.

Emily: My name is Emily and I am with my sister Anna. She is looking after me. Our mum is sick. A nice man with a funny name has asked us to go on his boat. He said that everybody is leaving. We are leaving now. Goodbye.

Anna: Good. Now go and get on the boat. I need to leave this on a wall somewhere.

  Emily: Don’t be long.

Anna: This Anna. As Emily said. We are leaving now. This man who has the boat is called Gideon. He seems really nice. He said his family were all infected and he had decided to leave. I saw the boat and waved for him to stop. After making sure he wasn’t a weirdo I accepted his offer to leave. So me and my sister are going now. Our mother is still locked in the cellar of our house. I couldn’t bring myself to kill her. If anybody finds a cure can you please go to 21 Bank Avenue, London, South East 29. You will find our mother there. I’m going to leave this recorder here and I’m saying goodbye now. Whoever finds this, I hope you find a way out.

  CHAPTER 51

With the United Kingdom in turmoil, a cabinet minister at Downing Street would make a tragic discovery. As reported in the National Post, the British Prime Minister had taken her own life. All that was left was this note.

I took advice from military advisers and cabinet ministers. In the end it was my sole decision to try and keep this infection outbreak under wraps.

I feel ashamed and distraught about the whole situation. I could have done more and due to my decisions, thousands of people are now either dead or infected. I refused to ask for help. I thought we could contain this outbreak. I was wrong.

Take any opportunity you can to leave this island, our once great country.

This infection has no spread worldwide and it is with a heavy burden that I must take full responsibility.

I have no other choice but to end my personal misery. It has been an honour to serve this nation.

  Prime Minister Alana Greenidge.

  CHAPTER 52

It has been 4 months since the infection outbreak in the United Kingdom. I’m still here in this underground facility, trying to piece together what I can to understand this nightmare. I’m not sure I ever will.

My colleague, Dr. McNamara was very successful in evacuating the healthy people from the medical lab. One of those being Jasmine O’Neill, who was taken to the Channel Islands.

Anna and Emily were fortunate enough to escape this nightmare as their recording stated. I have no idea if they made it to their destination. I hope they did.

  As for everybody
else. I don’t know their fate.

Except for Sam Watkins. You remember, the internet blogger from East London. Well, he was picked up by the soldiers who remained here with me. He’s a bit of a computer whizz-kid, so I have him helping me scour the country tracking down those left behind.

What you have heard, I now call the Chronicles Of The Apocalypse.

The Voice of Hope website, started by a charity for those looking for help. That’s still active for the moment, but for how long I don’t know. Sam was able to hack into their systems. It is now more of a place for people to leave their personal messages as help no longer exists. The entire planet is now battling this infection.

I want to leave you with some of the messages Sam uncovered.

This is Dr. Marco van Breukelen.

May the god you pray to bless us all.

  CHAPTER 53

This is Louise Haversham in Surrey. I’m trapped in a farmhouse just outside Godstone. I am pretty well stocked up, but for how long I don’t know. My husband, a farmer, was out in the field when he was attacked. I had seen the news and knew all about the infection. He returned after being missing for two days. He was no longer my husband, but a hungry violent infected person. He’s still out in the yard….somewhere. Sometimes I can hear his guttural groans. I need to get out of here. Please help me.

Harry Lawson. I live in a high rise flat in the middle of Bristol. There are thousands of infected outside. I need help.

My name is Julie Gilbert. I live in Birmingham. I’m trapped in a shop in The Bull Ring shopping centre. I have very little food or water.

My mum and dad went out a few days ago and never came back. They said they were going to find some more food and water. I was told to stay inside the house because they didn’t want me to go outside. I keep seeing all these weird people wandering around making funny noises, but I haven’t seen my mum and dad. My name is Leona Smith and I’m twelve years old and I live in the house opposite the Sainsbury’s in South Norwood with the blue door.

I’m really scared. Can somebody help me?

Calvin Bannerman. Aged 33. Trapped in Cardiff. Need Help. They are everywhere. When I say they….I mean those disgusting creatures with the infection. I am unable to get out, there are so many of them just staggering around outside.

If anybody picks up this message, please I am running out of food and water and need help urgently.

First name Gordon. Surname Davis. I am in a house in Nottingham. Really could do with some assistance. As I look outside my window I can see infected people just staggering around in the road. So if there is anybody out there, can you come and get me.

I have lots of food and water. I’m trapped in a motorway service station on the outskirts of Manchester. Can someone come and keep me company. Preferably female……blonde…..good looking would be an advantage. Joking aside, these things wandering around are pretty weird and there are a lot of them in the main entrance. The smell is horrendous. The name is Nigel……..any help is appreciated.

There are four of us in a house close to Chelsea. Me….my name is Sarah, my husband Lloyd and our two boys Ben and Jack. We really need somebody to rescue us. So if there is anybody out there we will be at the clock tower on Kings Road at midday…everyday…Please….Anybody.

Jennifer Madison here. I saw the outbreak in Leeds. When they evacuated there was no room on the trucks and I got left behind. I’ve been hiding out in a hotel. Can somebody come and help me.

Stay away from Manchester. It’s overrun with infected and I haven’t seen any soldiers in weeks. I doubt anyone can help me, but if you can my name is Dawn and I am inside Old Trafford.

The lady doctor said I should record a message. I love you mum and dad and I will never forget you. I’m safe now. Jasmine O’Neill aged 15 now………and I can play outside.

  CHAPTER 54

This is Dr. Marco van Breukelen.

When I began to put together the evidence relating to this infection outbreak I had no idea how personal some of the messages would be. It has been a harrowing experience and something which will stay with me for the rest of my life, however long that life may be. Every story I have documented so far had an emotional attachment for that particular person or people involved. This infection is hungry, devouring every life that it comes into contact with.

Word travels fast. When it was discovered that I was documenting the end of mankind, I found myself inundated with documents, letters, media files, recordings, photographs and diaries from people all around the world. Some of these items were given to soldiers who would then make sure that I received them as quick as they could deliver them. I was overcome with the amount of information that people wanted to share with me.

I am still in the underground facility, still with the same group of soldiers, although the numbers are starting to dwindle what with casualties, sickness and some of the men leaving in. It is a hard life here in the facility. I can’t remember the last time I saw daylight.

There is a calendar on my desk which I tick off dates, so I am fully aware what time of year it is. We are now into August and I can only imagine the hot days above ground, which in any other circumstance would have people enjoying picnics, visiting the coast or just generally spending time with their families. From what the soldiers are telling me, the mixture of rotting flesh and the heat from the sun is causing a disgusting, deathly smell which if I am honest I don’t wish to experience.

As I mentioned, more documents arrive every day, I fit my meal times in with going through every piece of information that arrives on my desk. It soon becomes apparent that all is not what it initially seemed.

  CHAPTER 55

A letter was intercepted from America. I do not know the identity of the person who sent the letter and I am clueless as to how it arrived on my desk. The contents appeared sinister to me.

  Dear L,

You need to sit up and take notice. There is going to be a major catastrophe and I understand that you want to keep things under wraps, but this is now out of control. We have a major problem here. It’s out. It’s fucking out for god’s sake. Do you know what that means?

You need to stop the live experiments, you are not going to be able to control this thing. We conducted the simulator test, as requested, it became out of control and got out. We managed to track it. We found it. But not before it reached a large town and we can’t say how many people it came into contact with.

STOP THE LIVE EXPERIMENTS. For the love of mankind, stop it. We don’t know how far this thing will spread. You have to tell the top man. I can’t see you stopping this getting out of Texas, in which case it’s going global.

This will be the last correspondence, you will not hear from me again.

  K.

  CHAPTER 56

With that letter in my possession, I had a starting point. The letter writer mentioned Texas. What did it mean by ‘live experiments’? My next piece of evidence would confirm the infection did in fact spread. I managed to obtain this email from an anti-government protestor living just outside Houston. It was dated January, three months prior to the infection outbreak in England.

  To: [email protected]

  From: Jenny

  Boomer,

I know you are on your way to New York for the planned protest, but you need to switch on the news. Things are getting kind of rough here in Houston since you left. There is rioting just outside the city, I’m not there so I can’t give you an exact run down on what is going on. Did you set something up before you left, some kind of diversion to take the heat off you guys in New York, because if you did it has worked.

That said, there are reports of death. A few people have been shot dead, apparently after they went crazy, but then you know how the news is the puppet of the government so I’m not sure how true those reports are.

Call me when you get this message, hopefully I will have some more news for you, in the meantime I am going to make my way to the area to see if I can meet up with
anybody from the movement.

I am sure this was something you set up before you left, good work Boomer, we can take this all the way to the White House.

  Anarchy and Peace rule!

  Jen.

  CHAPTER 57

Rioting in Houston. I frantically tried to gain access to the police records for that period so that I could track any reports that may have come in. It was difficult to find any, most of the reports and radio messages had been classified as ‘Secret’ for reasons I am unable to explain. I did however manage to find this. It was a report made by a reporter at the scene.

I am reporting from inside a liquor store on the outskirts of Houston. As I stare out of the window I can see police trying to contain at least twenty to thirty people who are just piling forward in a ferocious manner, snarling and growling like animals. I can see blood on some of the people who just seem intent on breaking the police line.

With my own eyes I saw a man shot in the chest by a police officer after repeatedly refusing to listen to commands to stay back. What was more astounding was that this male, after being shot, got up off the ground and continued to walk towards the police line. He was shot a further two times but this seemed to have no effect whatsoever. Eventually the police line moved back and the man walked by the store, stopping briefly to gaze in my direction. I managed to crouch down behind the counter by from what I witnessed this male was covered in blood from being shot. When I looked back he had disappeared.
