CHAPTER 66
With the infection spreading rapidly across Europe it wasn’t long before it reached other parts of the world. I knew it was going to be difficult to contain once it reached the continent, but now matters were drastically escalating. This online blog post showed how far it had spread.
17th May.
Before the infection reached here I had lived a very comfortable lifestyle. My job was to gather rich investors together and get them to pile money into companies looking to expand. Some of these investments were not as bright as I made them out to be, massaging the books to make them appear worthy.
Looking back I can understand why people think so ill of people like me employed in the banking sector. I am also very much aware of the amount of enemies I had made working this way.
I had worked my way up from a mere banking clerk to become one of the senior blue chip investors for Marshall, Sawyer and Brooks Banking Group. I had joined them eight years ago based at one of their regional offices in Central London. The opportunity came to move here, to Hong Kong. I was single and had no responsibilities so it was a no-brainer on my part.
I had seen on the news that England had been ravaged by the infection and once it reached Europe the talk was about how long before it reached here. Everybody was panicking and it became harder to deal with potential investors. Share prices plummeted and I had to change tactics and try to get people to invest in medical or pharmaceutical companies. A mercenary way of thinking but that trait of being selfish had stuck with my whole working life. Until now that is.
Sitting alone in my office, potential investors wandering around downstairs in the conference room, it just feels surreal. My big bank balance, plush apartment overlooking the harbour, flash car and designer clothes mean very little today with all the chaos around.
I would give it all up for some fresh water. I’m not sure how long I can last and looking out the window this part of Hong Kong is packed with thousands of infected.

CHAPTER 67
One of the first nations to close their borders had been Australia but even they were unable to stop the spread. This email set the scene for a terrifying situation.
18th May.
Marty,
I hope everything in Sydney is ok, here in Perth it’s not so good. Everything had been fine, just going around living our normal lives and keeping an eye on the news to find out how bad the infection was getting (I hear South-East Asia is bad now). Today that all changed.
I was on my way out to the shops and had turned out my street when I saw trucks full of soldiers heading into the city centre.
I had managed to get to the shop and the owner had the radio on loud. I joined the other few shoppers in the queue and we listened to the police message that was asking people to stay inside their homes.
We were wondering what was going on when our fears were confirmed. A worker from an industrial estate close to the city centre rushed in and told everybody the infection was now here in Australia.
Coastal patrols had apparently found a stowaway on a boat and he had been infected, attacking people as they tried to restrain him. Now the whole of Perth was on lockdown.
I left the shop and that was when I saw all the police flooding the area, loudspeakers instructing us to return to our homes and not to venture out onto the streets.
Marty, it’s here. I’m home now but I’m really scared. Give my love to Auntie Gladys.
You’re Loving Cousin
Adele.
CHAPTER 68
More people were becoming infected by the day. There were some who were prospering from the outbreak.
20th May
Diary Entry 16
With all my previous diary entries I had been noting down what news I had received from the radio or from the few travellers passing through the area. I had not had any contact with the infection at all and had just been going on what I had heard.
It was yesterday when I finally saw the effects of the virus. I had been patrolling the perimeter of the national park, noting down as I always did the animals and how they were surviving when I saw them coming across the plain. They were about three to four hundred yards away, staggering like lost souls in the heat.
As they came closer I noticed I noticed their dishevelled appearance with blotchy skin hanging from their bones. I recognised two of the five men. I had encountered them a few months ago. They were poachers and posed a massive danger to the animals in this part of South Africa. I am unable to say how they became infected in this vast expanse of wilderness, but they were.
It was then I saw Theo, one of the male lions I monitor, pounce on one of the men quickly tearing his body to pieces. The rest of the pride was also involved in the hunt, hiding in the long grass and one by one the poachers were picked off. I found this situation quite ironic, but what is more surprising is that since the attack yesterday I have monitored the lions and it appears they are showing no signs of the infection.
I will continue to monitor them.
Pieter Stojas
Game Warden – Kruger National Park.
CHAPTER 69
I was extremely interested in what the South African game warden had to say regarding the lions not becoming infected. Did this mean the virus was only fatal to humans? Was there a clue to animal DNA which meant we could stop this infection? I hastily sent an email to Dr. McNamara and then turned my attention back to the clutch of information I had on LMP Pharmaceuticals. It wasn’t long before I received and email.
Dr. van Breukelen,
It is noted that you are conducting research into the infection, we are very aware of your work in England since the outbreak.
Through monitoring your work we were alarmed to see your research has included LMP Pharmaceuticals and tests that they were carrying out on behalf of the American government here in Texas. I wish to point out that this research is taking you in a direction that is not going to help your work, in fact it has been flagged up to the highest authorities and we implore you to concentrate on the infection itself and not to continue with what appears to be some kind of conspiracy theory you are creating.
As you are fully aware the infection is now global and we do not have the resources at this stage to stop it, but we are hoping that you are going to find some information which may be of use to us.
You need to stop this ridiculous crusade and deal with the matter in hand.
C.I.A. Intelligence Unit – Texas
It appears my research has stirred up a hornets nest with the CIA now getting involved. They were trying to get me to stop looking deeper into the pharmaceutical company and the links with the live experiments in America. I am sure that the four people who brought the infection to England were part of a test. The blame had been placed solely at the door of the British establishment when they were unable to control the outbreak, but I wasn’t so sure it was their fault.
Did the American government know about this virus? Of course they did, so then why were they quick to distance themselves with the outbreak?
This email from the CIA just made me want to uncover the truth even further.
CHAPTER 70
Further checks on Boomer did not reveal anything to me, but I did uncover his return email to Jenny.
To: Jenny
From: freethenation@mailme.com
Hi Jen. I never set up anything before I left so whatever is going in Houston has nothing to do with the movement. This has to be some kind of government experiment gone wrong. Things here in New York are ok at the moment but if this thing is for real then it won’t be long before it spreads fast.
Take it easy Jen, don’t get hurt or caught. I will be in touch soon.
I never found any further correspondence between Jenny and Boomer, I can only assume they were caught up in the chaos that has gripped the world.
I needed to move my attention onto LMP Pharmaceuticals.
Who is K?
> Who is L?
Answers to questions were starting to get harder to find.
CHAPTER 71
My search for an answer on K was to come more quickly than I had anticipated. It had been staring me in the face all along and that is when the jigsaw pieces started to come together inside my head. A piece of paper landed on my desk a few days ago, it was non-descript and had no markings on it, but apparently this had been intercepted in the States by an anonymous person and sent direct to me.
I make this note to add to my diary whilst on my travels through the West Coast. Los Angeles is no longer under our control, we have to abandon some of the citizens who were in the ‘safe camps’. It is inevitably part of the process, but as the helicopter moved out of the compound I stared into the distance and I could see the thousands of infected bodies moving towards the people below crying out for help, some trying to run from their oncoming fate.
It was at this moment I knew we had made a mistake, I knew that what we had started was the end of civilisation as we know it.
I feel sick to the stomach knowing that I had been part of this project and if I could have my time over again then I would have not made the decisions that have now caused this global catastrophe.
I was not alone in this decision, he had been informed of the consequences but by then things had moved so quickly since the tests in Kenya in 2008 that we were beyond turning back.
The four subjects that we had recruited from England had spread the virus as we expected them to we just never knew how aggressive it would be. Our global plan of controlling world population growth had turned around and bit us directly in the rear.
I now fear for not just my future, but the future of mankind itself.
Vice-President Karl Montague.
CHAPTER 72
Karl Montague. The Vice-President of the United States of America. This at least answered the questions I had posed. ‘K’ was Karl Montague. The ‘Who Is Him?’ question I posed, to which Montague alluded to in his note entry was undoubtedly The President. My deductions left me to believe that ‘L’ was Lawrence Montgomery Palmer, the CEO and head of LMP Pharmaceuticals.
The mentioning of the tests in Kenya in 2008 was complete evidence that the most powerful governments of the world were involved in testing a virus that they hoped would control the global population explosion. I felt sick to the stomach.
Alana Greenidge, the British Prime Minister, had obviously taken her own life out of guilt, this made sense to me now. The four initial victims O’Neill, Tanner, McConnell and Kyle all worked for LMP Pharmaceuticals. They had been the test subjects in America for this virus, codenamed C.34.
The CIA did not scare me, the entire structure of the world had broken down so much that I don’t believe they have the power any longer to silence my research to uncover this harrowing truth.
This is just the beginning. There is much to do for us as a race to find a solution to this. I am hoping that my colleague Dr. McNamara is able to find some kind of answer with regards to the animals in Africa not becoming infected by the virus.
It is ironic to think that animals we chose to hunt, kill and exterminate could possibly be our friends in these times of tragedy. That’s one thing we can possibly thank them for.
My research continues. I am hoping that I will have better answers to questions in the near future.
But for now.
May The God You Pray To Bless Us All
