by George Wayne
GW:
But Jerry, you must know. After all, you’ve been married to one of the biggest straight poofs GW has ever seen?
JH:
[Laughs.] I don’t know. Maybe Englishmen are more in touch with their feminine side.
GW:
I hear the only reason you forgive Mick’s indiscretions is that every time he’s caught with his panties down, he has to buy you a bigger ruby than the last one.
JH:
Where did you read that, the National Enquirer?
GW:
No, darling! It’s just something I thought of, actually.
JH:
I don’t want to talk about my personal life.
GW:
But, Jerry, you must talk about how you keep the faith!
JH:
I’ve got to go now.
GW:
You’re not going to talk about why you love your husband and won’t divorce him?
JH:
I think that’s enough.
GW:
Jerry, don’t hang up!
JH:
No. No way, man. I wish you good luck. Bye.
GW:
Jerry! Jerry! Keep the faith, Jerry! Don’t divorce Mick, even if he gets caught with his panties down again!
JH:
[The telephone disconnects.]
ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
GW will forever acknowledge and revere the following: “Uncle” Noel Mignott, total class act and GW’s greatest support system ever! The appreciated PCE (personal copy editor), Caroline Clouse; the GW digital guru, Kris Kicior; the indispensable aide-de-camp, Kris Ann Blagrove; the stalwart Dan Gilmore at Vanity Fair for all his help; Omar Hernandez and the incredible “family” at Omar’s La Ranita, where Anyone Who’s Anyone coalesced and gelled to perfection; without question, the legendary Emperor of Condé Nast, Si Newhouse; and my liege Graydon Carter, who granted GW the gig of a lifetime. For their patience and dedication my team at WME [William Morris Endeavor]—especially my amazing literary agent, Andy McNicol, and the sage counsel of Alicia Glekas Everett—and of course the peerless brilliance of my team at the iconic HarperCollins. GW is eternally grateful to all who continue to support and believe in this particular genius—that will include the PR majordomos: Brad Taylor, Richard Rubenstein, and Susan Magrino, whose help assures this book will become a leading bestseller with multiple printings and translations into many languages. . . .
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
GEORGE WAYNE was born in Kingston, Jamaica. He is a New York–based writer of twenty-six years who currently resides in Greenwich Village. His beat is celebrity culture and the whirl of fashion, music, and style. George conceived and launched his own avant-garde ’zine, R.O.M.E., in 1986, and his career took off. He began as an associate editor at Interview magazine and later became the first contributing editor on the masthead of Allure. But his rise to recognition is attributed to his GW Q&As, which became a signature must-read of Vanity Fair, appearing regularly for twenty-two years.
