"Where's your home, soldier?"
The smile faded and the ice returned. "Well, my mom died three years ago, and my dad said he didn't want me around. Said I wasn't his kid and he'd be damned if he'd spend any more money on me. So I ran off."
"Tough break."
The young Ranger shrugged. "Well, I guess the Army's my home, Sergeant Major, but I was raised in Bishop, Georgia."
