Michael’s arms wrap around me as he deepens the kiss. I feel dizzy and euphoric. We’re as one for one eternal second, our mouths in unison, our tongues dancing. The kiss breaks.

“It doesn’t hurt, huh?” Michael says.

  “What?”

“Nothing.” He brushes his lips against mine and heat fills my veins. “Let’s go.”

We hold hands as we walk towards the café and I see a waitress push the door open.

We’re the first customers to enter it. Michael orders food and we sit in a green booth next to each other. My eyes slide over his face, and I notice very human dark circle under his eyes and a few delicate wrinkles.

“You look very tired,” I say.

  “So do you.”

I chuckle and rest my forehead against his shoulders. “Welcome to my world.”

  “It’s not bad.”

  “It’s only very exhausting.”

The waitress delivers our food and we eat in silence. I’m so tired my surroundings feel disjointed like I’m in a dream. My legs feel like they have turned into two concrete slabs and I can’t lift a hand. Michael rises to his feet, grabs my hand and drags me out of the café. We shuffle across the road, jump on his bike and check in to a motel an hour later.

  Michael

Ravna falls onto the bed and drops off into oblivion. I remove her sneakers and pull her hoody over her head as she mumbles something unintelligible. She hitches up the comforter and rolls over on her side. A delicate snoring sound wafts through the air.

I shower and lie down beside her. Sleep cuts me off from reality.

Sharp noises wake me. They’re coming from the bathroom. Ravna walks out with a toothbrush in her hand. Her hair is damp and she has a towel wrapped around her body.

“You should have woken me,” I say as I sit up and rub my eyes.

My mind is so fucking hazy I can’t focus. This must be a human thing. Poor humans. They’re so fucking tired all the fucking time. I think I have more respect for them now.

Ravna perches on the bed and smiles at me.

  “You snore,” she says.

  “No, I don’t.”

She giggles and nudges my chest with her elbow. “You do, old man.” She rises to her feet.

I flop from the bed and follow her to the bathroom. We stand by the washbasin, facing each other. Her eyes sweep over my chest. My baby girl is hungry. But it’s not food she craves. My hard dick demands that I shove him inside her.

“The rune symbols still cover your skin,” she says.

I grab my toothbrush and start brushing my teeth. Ravna’s eyes slide down to the tent in my pants. She puts her toothbrush aside and clings to my back like she’s done it a hundred times. She has never done it. One of her hands rests against my pec as her other palm strokes my abs. Her lips brush against my shoulder, causing more heat to rush to my dick.

“I want you to be faithful to me,” she says.

“You’re damn very serious, baby girl.”

  “I am.”

I rinse my mouth with water and splash my face. “I know what I want in life.”

“There were women in your life before me. A lot of them. I heard the rumours.”

“They didn’t mean anything to me.”

She slithers between my frame and the washbasin. “Who am I to you?”

  “My beloved wife.”

She sinks her fingers into my hair, her eyes burning with lust. “I’ve always wanted to be your wife.”

“I know.” I pull at her towel, tearing it off her. Her beautiful breasts wave, nipples erect. I’m gonna lick and suck those pretty tits of hers. “We’ll fuck and make a baby.”

  “Sounds like a plan.”

I circle her nipples with my thumbs as her lips part and the tip of her tongue wiggles against the sparkly whiteness of her teeth.

“You’re so beautiful,” I say. “You’ve always been so beautiful, but I prefer you now.”

  “What?” She wrinkles her forehead.

  “Nothing.”

Humans can’t bite their tongue when needed. This is getting annoying.

  Chapter Three

  Ravna

His voice is raspy with desire. My core heats up, and I feel myself getting wet between my thighs.

“You’re my silver fox.” I wink at him.

  “Thanks, baby girl.” He chuckles.

Our lips meet in a delicate kiss. My God, this is happening, right here and now.

Michael’s mouth moves down my neck like a lick of fire. My body shivers in anticipation. Fever surges through me.

I don’t know what to do. My body craves his so desperately, but my hands refuse to cooperate. Embarrassment floods me, and I stiffen.

  “Ravna?”

  “I… never… it’s just that…”

  “I know.”

He holds my hand and pulls me out of the bathroom, shaking off his pants. His hard cock springs free. It’s enormous, straight and thick. Desire burns inside me, causing my body to tremble.

We lie down on the bed, turning on our sides so we face each other. Michael runs his hot, callused hand down my arm, over the indent of my waist and up and down my ass. He puts my thigh around his hip, pulling me to him.

“I’ve waited for you for eternity,” he says, his voice coated with pain and yearning. “You were so stubborn.”

  “What?”

  “Nothing.”

His mouth closes mine as his tongue thrusts in. We kiss in a lazy rhythm as his fingers pinch my nipple. I moan into his mouth.

He rolls me over on my back and draws my breast fully into his mouth. God, it feels so good. I’ve waited for him so long.

I feel his wet tongue circle my nipple. His mouth moves down, and he plants hot kisses around my navel. I’m all fire. I’m all hyperawareness of his touch. My core pulsates. My heart hammers in my chest.

Michael kisses his way down to my mound and sinks his face between my thighs. He runs his tongue up and down my slit as his scorching breath forces a loud moan from my throat. He licks and kisses my pussy, and I yield myself to him. My fingers sink into his hair and push my crotch against his face. His tongue penetrates my pussy, and I urge him to give me more and faster. I’m on the brink.

  “Michael,” I gasp.

  “I know.”

He laps his tongue over my clitoris, jolting me, bringing me so close to my peak. I squirm against the sheets as my arousal leaks from me. He pinches my clitoris with his fingers, and I shoot up. My breath halts and silver stars twirl in my head.

My head is still hazy as Michael crawls on top of me and shoves his cock inside me. He buries his whole length inside me in one thrust.

I whimper at the sting of pain. My thighs quiver as the pain grows in strength and seizes my bottom.

  “It burns,” I gasp.

His lips touch mine, and he kisses me so expertly I indulge myself in this pain. The heat of summer. The relief of a tropical storm. The decadence of pain. Darkness and light. His tantalizing musk. The smell of my come. I’m all those things.

He starts thrusting. Our bodies sway as one in a primal rhythm. Pain mixes with pleasure, but everything is as it should be. I hear Michael moan and it’s the sexiest sound I’ve ever heard. His curse follows. He trembles against me and I feel his cock thicken inside me. His hot cum fills me.

  “Fuck,” he growls. “So clumsy.”

  “So human.”

  “Is it good or bad?”

  “Very good.”

His cock slips out and he pulls me into his arms, the sounds of our heavy breaths forming a magical bubble around us. “It will be better next time.”

  “It’s good enough, Michael.”

He buries his face into my neck. “Love you, baby girl.”

  “Love you too.”

I inhale happiness. I exhale goodness.

I feel like I’m in the elevator going up.

Darkness falls upon me. A scream tears at the air—a scream of primal evil. I’m col
d. So cold. Ice envelops my heart as pain stabs my throat. Another scream. I’m all dread. I can’t move. Thick fluid splashes against my face. I smell blood. I smell decay. It’s so dark. So ominously dark. So deadly dark.

Then it’s grey. Sparkly grey streaks of mist slither around me. A hand grips my wrist. I turn my face and my eyes meet Evelyn’s. Blood dribbles from her nose.

“I did what I could,” Evelyn rasps. Blood gushes from her mouth. She coughs. “You need to be strong, honey.”

“Evelyn, what’s happening?” I feel like I’m bodiless, like I’m hanging in the air.

A coughing fit resounds to my left. I turn my face and see Coyote. He’s kneeling and coughing out purple bits that look like pieces of a lung.

  “Coyote,” I gasp.

“I’m fine,” he rasps. “Don’t worry, kid.”

  “What happened?” I shriek.

“A horde of vampires just after Michael and you left the motel,” Evelyn says. “But it’s sorted. Reconstructed.” She urges me to look at her. “Promise me you’ll be strong.”

“I promise.” I don’t know what is going on but I promise anyway.

Evelyn strokes my head. “Good girl.”

Then I feel her. Her eternity. The heaviness of her duties. It hurts so much. I can’t. I can’t bear it. It’s too much. Too much. I don’t want to remember. I don’t want to be her.

Everything is denser and denser. Glittery grey. There’s no me.

  Then it’s blank.

  Chapter Four

  Michael

It’s been two months since we arrived at Nate and Rose’s place. Ravna loves them so much. Staying with them and their pups will do her good, I’m sure.

She’s been like a zombie since Evelyn and Coyote saved us. She’s breathing, but she’s mute, her eyes imperceptive. She’s either sitting in the armchair or lying on the bed.

We’re in the Peruvian Mountains. Nate’s place is a large shed built of metal pieces of almost every colour. A village perches on the rough edge of the mountain, a mile below from where we’re staying.

Ravna and I would have died if Evelyn and Coyote hadn’t reconstructed the timeline. There are side effects. I’m an archangel back again and Ravna is immortal back again. The memories of her previous life made a vegetable out of her.

My baby is growing in her womb.

I sit at the worn out table as a few streaks of sunlight filter through the window. Nate’s two pups climb onto my lap. They’re in wolf forms—funny little shits.

Rose puts a bowl of soup on the table. “Eat,” she says.

I salute her as Nate takes his kids from my lap and growls at them. They disperse among the equipment scattered by the opposite wall. There’re cables and monitors and a lot of funny stuff used to detect ghosts. Nate and Rose are working as two paranormal scientists here. They’re investigating a serial killer from fifty years ago. He’s a ghost, but people are still dying in the mountains.

I eat my soup and go visit my wife. She’s lying on the bed, her eyes closed. Her porcelain face glows. I perch on the bed and massage her tummy with my palm, pushing my healing energy into her. It has never worked, and I don’t know why.

“Wake up, you sleeping beauty,” I say. I lean over her and kiss her lips. “Our baby needs you.” Her shallow breathing answers me.

I’ve tried to sneak into her mind, but there’s a grey wall preventing me from doing this.

A tiny hand squeezes my shoulder. I turn my face and see Evelyn. She pops in once a week to check on Ravna.

“She doesn’t want to wake up,” I say.

Evelyn shoves me off the bed and takes my seat. She holds Ravna’s hand.

“You promised,” Evelyn says in a firm voice. “Be a good girl, Ravna, and wake up.”

  Nothing as always.

Evelyn growls. “Two months, Ravna, come on. We had a deal, kid.”

“Maybe she needs more time?” I say.

We fucking have a lot of time, but our baby doesn’t. She needs her mother awake, not asleep.

“Maybe.” Evelyn rises to her feet. “Talk to her all the time.”

  “I know.”

  Four months later.

I smooth a hand over the blanket wrapped around my wife’s body. I put my palm on her pregnant belly and the baby kicks me.

“Ravna,” I say. “Rose is pregnant again. Your mom and dad will visit you in two days. You could wake up, you know.”

She’s stubborn as always—an embalmed corpse. So beautiful in her never-ending sleep.

“We’ll get through this together, baby girl.” Tears prick my eyes. “I will do anything. Anything. Just wake up.”

“Tramp.” It sounds like a spring breeze.

I stiffen. Ravna’s eyes flutter. Her lips move, making no sound as her hand jerks up.

My heart pounds in my chest. “Ravna, sweetheart, open your eyes.” I perch on the bed, hold her hand and bring it up to my lips.

“Tramp.” It comes out in a murmur that resembles the sound of a mountain stream.

“Alright. You can call me a tramp if you fancy.”

She lifts her eyelids and the effort of doing so is written all over her face. “She called you a tramp.” Her neck muscles are taut, her cheeks red.

  “She?”

Her eyes fix on mine as she winces. “I don’t want… to be her.”

  “You’re my baby girl.”

“You were a human for two days?” She wheezes and then flashes me a pale smile.

  “It wasn’t meant to be.”

The sound of her rapid breathing travels in the air.

“Zaria will need our immortality,” she gasps.

  “How do you know this?”

  “That deal with Phoenix…”

“I’ll fucking kill her. She’s always trouble. Fucking hell, she never learns.”

“She did it out of love, but the consequences are disastrous.”

  “Don’t worry about anything.”

“No, Michael, help me get up. We have a job to do. We and our kids.”

“Alright. Talk to me then. I’m all ears.”

  Epilogue 3

  Ravna

We’re standing on the edge of the desert. Zaria’s three moons burn the nape of my neck. Excitement fills my veins. My three kids circle us, their white wings shimmery. Three little angels. Naughty as hell.

Michael grabs my hand and squeezes it.

Zaria knows no love. We’re here to bring love back to this hostile land.

  “So,” I start.

Michael winks at me. “We’re gonna make a female punnica shift for the first time in millennia, huh?”

The sand glitters all around me as sweat pricks my forehead. “And a handsome prince will find her.”

  “Very romantic, Ravna.”

“I love romantic stories, you know this.”

  Our fingers lace together.

  We’re needed here.

  We’ll be happy here.

Our children will be the kings and queens of Zaria.

“We should find a home,” I say.

“We could rebuild Vahan’s house. I’ve never been a builder. I want to try this.”

The smell of herbs and spices wafts through the air as the hot air licks my face. “It’s a wonderful idea. We could revive the vineyards as well.”

  We pull forward, holding hands.

  We’ll always love each other.

  We’ll always be together.

  Michael

I suck on her lower lip, buried to the root inside her. Her body trembles beneath mine as she moans her orgasm. I haven’t finished yet.

I want another baby. I just need to make sure my wife is pregnant.

Ravna’s wide, hazy eyes seek mine as her muscles relax. I ease my weight onto my elbow, grip her hip with my other hand, and thrust into her hard. I’m sure I just slammed on her stomach this time. A whimper leaves her mouth. The purple satin sheets rustle as I fuck my wife fast and hard. She digs her heels into my
back as her nails scratch my shoulders.

  “Harder,” she gasps.

Two punnicas sneak into the bedroom and circle our mattress. They growl, exposing their fangs. Their silver mottled fur glitters at the touch of the flickering light coming from the stone fireplace.

Ravna keeps six of them as her pets. They haven’t shifted yet. They will. My wife is very ambitious after all.

I bite on her lower lip and then pull out of her and tumble her over so she’s on all fours. Sweat beads her back. Her tantalizing smell wakes a wild animal inside me.

I drive my cock into her hot, tight pussy from behind and pound into her until we both moan our ecstasy.

Ravna curls up into a ball and drops off to sleep.

I haven’t finished yet. I want twins. No, triplets. Raphael has triplets and I want the same.

I allow my wife to have a nap and fuck her again.

  To be sure.

  The end.
