Recursion (Book One of the Recursion Event Saga) Page 11

by Brian J. Walton

“All right, Molly who is thirteen.” He smiles. “Come on, let’s find someplace to dry off and figure out where the hell we are.”

Molly. I guess that’s my name. If I remembered his name before he said it, I suppose it makes sense that he would know mine. I try it on for size, saying it a few times over in my mind, and decide that it fits okay. But I’ve still got loads of questions for this guy. Like, for starters, what my last name is. Vic makes his way up the beach and I follow.

  “Then what?” I ask.

  “Huh?” Vic asks.

“What will we do after we dry off?”

Vic thinks a moment. “That’s a good question, little girl.” He barks out a laugh, staring out at the beach. “Fifteen months. I wonder what this will be.” He says it quietly, almost to himself. “I guess the first thing we can do is try to get you home.”

He continues walking down the beach, and I follow. The sun is setting over the water, and the ocean looks like liquid gold. The air feels fresh in my lungs, and it all feels, for now at least, like there’s a chance that everything’s going to be okay.
