  1967 Special Saloon Cars

At Snetterton in 1967, James Hunt had hoped to race the Mini which he had built in his garage, but it failed scrutineering. Sources suggest that it lacked windows and that a deckchair was used to form the passenger seat. He did get to race at Brands Hatch and, according to him, probably at two further races, although there is no record if it.

  APPENDIX IV

  1969 to 1972 Formula 3

In 1969, James Hunt entered a Brabham BT21, which he had purchased, in Formula 3 meetings, and towards the end of the season drove a March 693 and Lotus 59 for an outing in each. He won at two Formula Libre meetings. Driving a Lotus 59/59A for 1970, he participated in the BARC Forward Trust, MCD Lombank and BRSCC MotorSport Shell Championships and ventured abroad to race the first time, taking in some French, Swedish and Belgian championship events. Wins this year came at Rouen and Zolder. In 1971, racing a March, he took part in events for the three British championships and again raced in France. He won four races. In 1972, before moving up to Formula Two, he entered March and Dastle cars in Formula 3 without recording a victory.
