Oriana is in Dallas today, transitioning. Maybe I made a mistake encouraging her to come over. Maybe she could be helpful as a mortal, beyond the grasp of A’zam’s direct control. I still haven’t figured out how he will pull that off. I can see him having the ability to monitor tens of thousands of us, but what happens when there are millions of immortals? Millions will be much more difficult to control. Is that the solution? To grow our numbers so quickly that we grow beyond his ability to manage us? That’s a hard question to answer because I really don’t know enough about how his side of this control regime works. I understand the software and have a concept of what Rocky is working on from quickly studying what he displayed in his lab. But I don’t have the counterpart configuration or even the overall architecture to fall back on. Even though A’zam agreed to move his lab over under my control I suspect this part of his work will remain beyond my supervision for a very long time. Probably forever. Because A’zam will never trust me completely. I may be barely human, but I am human and that means I’ll always have independent thoughts, even if he finds a way to prevent me from acting on them.
