Sam had a lot of farmable land but Shauna and Haya farmed only what they needed to grow their own food. The plots were much smaller than they had been before. Sam sidled up to her. He had such a dramatic effect on her. She felt giddy and wanton at the same time. She leaned over to her and kissed her, with a delicious slowness.

From the corner of her eye, Shauna spied movement. It was a black speck. She opened her eyes. Wide. It was another man. A rider coming towards them.

“Sam,” she muttered. “There’s a man. Riding towards us. Oh father in heaven, not again.”

  “Stay calm, missy,” he said.

In a covert move, so as to not broadcast himself, his hand slowly found his gun.

  “Hello there,” the rider called.

When he was close enough, Sam drew on him but did not pull the trigger.

  “Hold,” ordered Sam.

Shauna thought Sam was so sweet and so amiable that it was strange to hear him be so commanding but he was. It made her feel passion for him.

“Don’t shoot mister,” trembled the fellow.

He was stopped on his horse. He had one hand on the rein and one in the air.

“What brings you here?” demanded Sam.

“Just riding through. Got caught in the storm the day before,” said the man. “I need a place to just water my horse.”

“Where passing through. I am taking over a parish in town,” he said.

  “Preacher?” said Sam.

Shauna saw his face widen with a bright idea.

“We’ll be happy to have you to supper before you’re on your way or you can stay the night. I have just arrived back home to inform my foreman’s bride that he has passed. I wish to marry to her. Will you perform the ceremony?” asked Sam.

The preacher’s face brightened. “I would be delighted.”

“Can you do it now?” asked Sam.

“Now?” asked the preacher. “On our horses?”

“I don’t see why not? Shauna?” Sam asked her.

Shauna smiled. It was not the wedding she had hoped for. From the first moment Sam mentioned wedding, she envisioned a wedding dress. Her prior wedding was nothing more than a few words in front of a preacher, and a couple of people from a saloon to witness. But oh well, she thought. She certainly got the husband she hoped for.

  “Of course,” said Shauna.

  “Proceed preacher,” said Sam.

His smiled could not be any wider. The preacher cleared his throat and gave quick sermon followed by the prompting of their vows. Within five minutes, Sam and Shauna were man and wife.

“Preacher, you go on ahead. You’ll find our place in a mile in that direction,” said Sam.

“Find it? Aren’t you coming?” asked the preacher with surprise.

“We’ll be along directly,” said Sam. “I have to stay behind and kiss my beautiful bride.”

Shauna watched the preacher ride towards her home. She happily leaned into her husband and kissed him with all the love in her heart.

  Chapter One

Jillian and Jordana Meyers knew they were a little too old to get upset at these things. But even at 23, when they had been looking so forward to their camping trip with their dad and he canceled, it was a bummer.

Barry Meyers called them over first thing in the morning – after their run of course – to tell them in person he just couldn’t make it. Between both twins, Jordana was the more understanding one. Jillian on the other hand was a hot head and she struggled to not act out.

“It just came up,” said Barry in a calm explaining voice. “No one at work saw this coming...”

“Can’t you get someone else to cover it? I don’t want to go camping without you. No offense Jordana, but it won’t be the same,” complained Jillian.

“I agree,” said Jordana diplomatically. “But we bought the space. It’s non-refundable. We’ll just have to make do under the circumstances.”

“Yes but it will be dangerous,” said Jillian. “Every creeper in the world will know we’re out in the wild alone because, let’s face it: We’re hot.”

Jillian watched her father’s face grow very serious, as though he had not thought of that. She had just meant it to be manipulative. Not to upset him.

“Hey dad, I was just joking,” she said.

She called Barry dad but he was technically their step dad. The twins’ mother and Barry divorced while the girls were in their teens. The three of them had a very close relationship. The train of thought was interrupted when there was a knock on Barry’s patio door. Barry’s neighbor, Jack Riley let himself in.

“Oh my gosh, look who it is!” he said. “Look at the two of you all grown up. Boy that happened fast. How are you?”

Jillian and Jordana knew their stepdad’s best friend Jack Riley since Barry and their mother were married. Jack Riley was sort of like an uncle to them. Seeing him around back in the day, gave Jillian a sense of grounding.

But seeing him now after some time had passed since the last time she had seen him and now that she as a grown woman, Jillian viewed Jack Riley quite differently. For one thing, he wasn’t as old as she remembered him to be. He and Barry were friends since high school. They were both the same age as the twins’ mother who had had them when she was still a teen.

Jack was super good looking even if he was older than they were. So was their stepfather for that matter. Both of them were very fit as they went to the gym daily. They had biceps for days. Jack had dark hair and bright blue eyes. Jillian had forgotten all about his delicious dimples.

Jillian decided Jack Riley was plain happy-go-lucky unlike Barry who worked all the time, Jillian wasn’t sure what Jack did for a living. She only knew that he always seemed available. He always seemed to have an enormous amount of free time.

“Wow,” he remarked. “Did someone die? What happened here? You two look like someone stole your pony!”

“Ah it’s me,” said Barry. “We had this camping trip planned at Carpinteria and now I can’t go.”

Carpinteria was the beach north of Santa Barbara that had great camp grounds.

“Carpinteria? Man I love that place! Camping, huh? I wish I could go camping,” he said with a smile.

Jillian knew that he meant that just to lift their spirits but when she thought of it, it wasn’t a bad idea. She and her sister had the same thought at the same time. They both looked at each other with thrilled expressions.

“Hey how about you come with us?” said Jordana. “We are going anyway because we paid upfront and it’s non-refundable. But we would really feel better if a man was there. It would be unsafe for us to be alone there.”

  Jack replied, “You know I
am not really doing anything.”

Jillian interrupted playfully, “Do you ever?”

Barry raised his eyebrows. “Hey,” he admonished lightly.

“Just kidding. It would be great if you could join us,” said Jillian. “And I was just kidding, really.”

“That’s fine,” teased Jack. “What goes around comes around, right Jordana?”

“Jillian better hope not!” Jordana muttered.

It was true. Even though the young women were identical twins, in some ways they were very very different. Jordana was a rule follower. To the letter. Jillian was a rule breaker or a rule shredder as Jordana said.

“When is the trip?” Jack asked.

“This weekend. We take off on Friday and Monday and return on Tuesday,” answered Jordana.

Barry looked at his watch. “I know I’m always saying this but I am late for a meeting. Can I trust you guys to lock up?”

He took the last sip of his coffee before resting his cup on the kitchen table. He grabbed his briefcase and bent down to kiss each of his stepdaughters on the head.

“Bye guys. I’ll say it again. I am so sorry about this. We’ll do it another time,” he said.

  “Bye,” said Jordana.

Jillian said nothing. She basically sulked on the sofa. She wore her feelings on her sleeve and she was not much good at containing herself.

“Are you kidding me?” admonished Jack. “How old are you?”

It took a moment for Jillian to realize he was talking to her.

  “Excuse me?” she asked, bewildered.

“I know you’re disappointed but do you have to sulk like an eleven-year-old?” asked Jack.

“I get it,” said Jillian. “But you don’t have to take that tone with me.”

“I am just a little surprised at what I am seeing, that’s all,” said Jack.

  Jordana laughed. “Welcome to Jillian.”

  “Hey!” said Jillian.

“Nope,” said Jack, holding his hand up to say stop. “I was way out of line. That’s between your dad and you. I should keep my nose out of it. Truce Jillian.”

“Truce,” she said. “And you’re right. I should not have pouted. I will apologize to him.”

“So are we square?” he asked her.

  “Yes, we’re square,” Jillian replied.

Jordana just sat there and smirked.

  Chapter Two

The fact that Jack Riley was going to go camping with them excited the twins. It made them look forward to the trip even more. Jack had such a good nature about him. He had a great sense of fun and the twins felt that he would be an awesome addition to the trip.

“I think he’s hot,” said Jillian.

“Oh my gosh,” said Jordana. “He’s as old as our parents.”

  There was an awkward silence.

“Okay,” said Jordana. “He is hot.”

“Hot?” remarked Jillian. “He is so fine.”

Jack had dark slightly curly hair that just beginning to grey. His eyes were sparkling blue and his teeth were straight and even.

“Jeez, maybe it’s not safe for us to go on this trip with him. Maybe we should tell him how about next time when our dad can make it,” said Jordana.

“Stepdad, Jordana,” Jillian corrected soberly. “Ex-stepdad. He’s not married to our mother anymore.”

“Whatever,” giggled Jordana. “There is something so wrong about being attracted to them.”

  “Them?” gasped Jillian.

“It was a slip!” protested Jordana.

Jordana lit up bright red with a powerful blush. But if she had to admit to herself, her stepfather was fine as well.

“It was a Freudian slip,” taunted Jillian. “Good think Freud is dead or we’d be in trouble.”

Jillian cell phone buzzed. Jordana’s phone dinged as well. They both got texts from Jack:

Hey your dad gave me your numbers. Let me take us shopping for the trip,” he wrote.

“What does this guy for a living?” asked Jillian.

“I know, right?” said Jordana. “I don’t think I’ve even known him to have a conflict with work. Not like Barry.”

“Nothing but free time and cash. Must be nice,” said Jillian. “So yes or no?”

  “To?” Jordana asked.

  “Shopping,” said Jillian.

“Yes,” said Jordana. “I know he said we are all grown up but right, with a free shopping spree in front of us, I feel like we are seventeen again.”

“Shopping here we come, Uncle Jack,” said Jillian.

“What do you think he would do if he knew we thought he was hot?”

  Chapter Three

The girls met Jack at the Sporting Goods store right across from the Whole Grocer. The plan was to put the finishing touches on the camping gear and then go over the grocery list. Jack arrived at the store first. The twins leaned into him to kiss him on the cheek at the same time.

“Double trouble,” he murmured. “Who needs to text you to find out where you are? You two are your heads up.”

“Not sure what that means,” Jillian raised a mischievous eyebrow.

Jordana gave her a playful shove. Jordana also took away a sexual meaning to his remark, though probably Jack did not mean it that way she thought.

“Do you ever had a clean mind?” she asked Jillian.

“You’re the one with the filthy mind,” said Jillian. “That’s not at all how I meant it.”

“Sure you didn’t, “chastised Jack. “Okay. What do we need here? What shape is your tent in?”

  “Triangle,” Jillian fired off.

Without missing a beat, Jack swatted Jillian.

She was sure it was a playful swat but maybe he didn’t realize his own strength. He popped her pretty hard.

  “You spanked me,” said Jillian.

“You are long overdue I have no doubt,” said Jack, looking at her with a playful scold.

Jordana howled. Jillian wasn’t sure she liked it. If she was certain he was playing and not criticizing her, maybe. She actually enjoyed playful spanking. She had an affair with a boss of hers about six months prior. He spanked her after hours once and neither of them could stop it. It was so hot and so addictive, it became a regular thing for both of them. They eventually had to end it because it interfered with their work.

But she wasn’t sure how Jack meant it and so she felt herself sulking. Especially after what he said next, Jillian felt criticized.

“Jordana shall the adults go shopping and leave the kid here with the sitter?” asked Jack.

“The tent is in good condition,” said Jillian seriously. “Zippers work great. We’re set.”

“What about air mattresses?” asked Jack. “How does that sound?”

“Ooh,” said Jordana. “That’s a good idea. We usually sleep on the sand in a sleeping bag of course because the sand is pretty soft. But an air mattress sounds fabulous.”

“Let’s check them out,” said Jack.

They decided that Jillian and Jordana could share a mattress and Jack could have his own. It didn’t long before their first cart was full.

“We need to get a second cart,” noted Jordana.

“Really?” scoffed Jillian. “Air mattresses? We’re camping. Not redecorating a hotel room! Let’s rough it guys. Put some of this back.”

“We’re fine,” said Jack firmly. “But I agree we can probably stop here, put all this in my car and then head over to Whole Grocers.”

“But Whole Grocers is organic. We aren’t leaving for the beach until day after tomorrow,” said Jillian. “We should shop tomorrow night.”

Jack raised his brows and spoke in a low even voice. “If I said shop tomorrow night I’ll be you’d say shop now. You are really contrary. I think maybe you do need a spanking for real.”

Okay Jillian was sure he was criticizing her and that hurt her feelings. It wouldn’t be the first time she heard it but that bothered h
er. Jillian who was usually pretty thick-skinned, had to fight a surge of tears. She took a deep breath and played it off.

“Whole Grocers it is,” she said, trying to be cool.

Jack, Jordana and she piled the camping gear into Jack’s car and squeezed into the front seat. They drove over to the grocery store in his car. The ride was very quiet. Every so often Jack looked over to Jillian who sat by the window.

  “No pouting,” he said.

Something about the way he looked at her made her shiver to the core. Despite the feelings that he stirred, good and bad, she found his actions towards her erotic. She wanted to be taken by him. That was going to be her little secret. So while on the outside she appeared to be resisting him, on the inside she wanted him bad.

“Okay,” said Jack. “No more teasing. And it was just teasing Jillian. I am sorry if I went too far.”

It was a good idea after all that they shopped a little early for the trip because they agreed things like trail mix and dried fruit, stuff for salads would do them just fine for the weekend. Jillian was a vegan so they bought vegetarian hamburger. Jack picked up a couple of New York steaks for Jordana and him.

“I am not sure it’s healthy for you to restrict your diet like that,” he said. “How long have you been eating like that?”

Jillian rolled her eyes. Here we go again, thought Jillian. She was this close to telling him to mind his own business.

“Does Barry know you’re a vegan?” he asked.

“Jack, I am a grown woman. I am not sure if he knows or not,” Jillian said with tested patience. “I am fine. Don’t I look fine?”

“Yes,” he said unable to void the sensuality from his voice. “You look very healthy.”

“So I know what is right for me,” snipped Jillian.

“Still, I am just saying,” said Jack, then added softly, “Okay I will get off your back.”
