“Well, you can stay here in the library as long as you want,” Claire said. “Maybe the library can be your new haunt.”
“Maybe,” Kaz said. “And thank you. That’s very nice of you. But I wonder if I’ll ever see my family again?”
Claire rocked back and forth in the rocker. “I was thinking about that,” she said.
“You were?”
“Yes. Well, about that and about how we solved the case of the library ghost.” Claire stopped rocking and turned to Kaz. “I think you and I should start our own detective agency. It would be like my mom and dad’s, except we’d solve ghost cases. We could call ourselves C & K Ghost Detectives, for Claire and Kaz. What do you think?” She looked really excited about the idea.
“But your parents said you’re too young to be a detective,” Kaz said.
“I’m not too young,” Claire said firmly. “And neither are you. Think about it. If we become ghost detectives, we could find your family.”
“Really?” Kaz brightened at the thought. In fact, he almost glowed.
“Yes. If someone has a ghost in their house, they’ll call us and then we can go find out if it’s someone from your family.”
Kaz liked that idea. He liked it a lot.
“For sure we’ll make a ton of money,” Claire said.
“Money? What’s that?” Kaz asked.
“You don’t know what money is?” Claire gaped at him.
“No.”
Claire laughed. “You have a lot to learn about the world outside your old haunt, Kaz. But don’t worry. I’ll teach you everything you need to know.” Claire held out her hand. “Partners?” she asked.
Kaz rested his ghostly hand right next to Claire’s solid hand. “Friends,” he said.
