The door opened and he heard a muffled sob a moment before Jennifer threw herself into his arms. He held her tight, breathing in her sweet scent despite the pain from his wounds. This. This was why he was still alive. Even though he couldn’t see, just holding her made everything right. Her arms slid from around his waist and she eased back a little.

“You’re not wearing your eye patch,” she said. “And your other eye is different. What happened?”

  Siril stood mute.

“His sight was taken from him,” Borgoz said. “He has a few wounds that might be tender for a while. And he’s going to need a little help getting around while he adjusts.”

“You can’t see?” she asked softly.

“They spared my life so I could return to you, but I’m afraid you aren’t getting much of a bargain. I can no longer be a warrior or a trainer. They’ve forced me into early retirement.” Siril swallowed hard. “If you no longer wish to be mated to me, if you’d prefer a mate who isn’t as damaged, I will understand.”

“Siril,” she said softly, her hand sliding along his cheek. “I will always want you. I love you. Do you think I care if you have a missing finger or leg? If you can’t see? I love the male that you are, and all of those things are just physical. It’s your heart I fell in love with.”

“I’ll leave the two of you alone,” Borgoz said. “If you need anything, I’ll be in the council headquarters. We’ll be meeting most of the night.”

  “Thank you,” Jennifer said.

“Borgoz,” Siril said. “I’m sorry I let you down.”

His friend clapped him on the shoulder. “No, Siril. It is I who am sorry. If we’d left them alone, they may have stolen a few of our potential mates, but you wouldn’t have lost your crew or your sight. It would have been a small price to pay.”

“I don’t understand,” Jennifer said. “They wanted women?”

“Santor, their prince, is seeking a princess. But the other males on his planet want mates as well. It’s rumored that a virus swept across their planet and killed all of their females, young and old,” Siril said.

“I jokingly told Siril we should send your daughter to him,” Borgoz said.

Jennifer gave a snort. “Lila would be over the moon to become a princess, but she’d probably torture the poor guy.”

He felt Borgoz hesitate. “You would not be opposed to us offering your daughter to them?”

“Talk to Lila,” Jennifer said. “I bet she’d be more than happy to go with them, if she got the prince. It would make her happy, and it would solve your problem for now. As she’s pointed out, she’s a grown woman and can choose her own path.”

“Very well. I wish the both of you a pleasant evening,” Borgoz said.

Jennifer took his hand and led him inside and shut the door. He smelled food and his stomach rumbled again. She pressed against his side, near his wound but not near enough to hurt. Then her hand slid down his arm as she checked on his other wound.

“You’re in rough shape,” she said. “Why don’t we eat, and then I’ll start the shower for you? We can crawl into bed afterward and snuggle under the covers.”

“That’s all you have to say?” he asked. “I’ve lost my sight, lost who I am, and I look a little rough?”

“Siril,” she said softly. “I can only imagine how it was when they took your sight from you. But the fact you’re blind doesn’t change who you are. All the battles you’ve lost and won are still part of the history of this planet. Even if you’re not wielding a sword, or whatever weapon you use, you’re still a warrior and will always be a warrior. Maybe you just need to be a different kind of warrior now.”

He didn’t understand her words, but he let her lead him to the table.

“I ordered enough for two and set the table,” she said, “hoping you’d be home for dinner. I don’t understand Terran cuisine yet, so I ordered from the Earth café. I had to guess at what you might like. You have a burger and fries, same as me. And there’s apple pie for dessert.”

“You don’t see me differently?” he asked.

“Siril, shut up and eat before you make me mad. Whether you can see or not doesn’t change the fact you’re the guy I love and the father of this baby growing inside of me. Your son or daughter won’t care if you can see or not. They’ll only care that you love them and play with them. Your arms still work, don’t they?” she asked.

  “Yes,” he said.

“Then you can hold a baby. And assuming everything else still works, you can still make love to your wife. We have each other, and that’s what matters. Even if you’d been blind when I first met you, I’d still have come here with you. I didn’t agree to be your mate because you’re a revered warrior. I agreed because you’re a good man. You’re kind, brave, and you showed me a tenderness no one had ever shown me before. That is who you are. Your eyes have nothing to do with that.”

He was humbled by her response. Siril ate his food and contemplated her words. When Santor had claimed his sight, he’d thought his life was over, that it would have no meaning. He’d always been a warrior. But perhaps, instead of focusing on being a gladiator for his people, perhaps he could focus on being a mate and father. Instead of being important to everyone, he could be important to two particular people. The weight on his shoulders lifted a bit. If Jennifer had cried, if she’d made a big fuss over what he’d lost, he might have crumpled. But he should have known better. His mate was fierce and strong, and she expected the same of him.

“I’ll need help,” he said. “Until I’m familiar with where everything is, and we won’t be able to shift things around. If everything stays in its place, Vyrex thinks I can learn to navigate the house and possibly the city unassisted. But it will take time.”

“Take all the time you need,” she said softly. “I’m not going anywhere.”

They finished their meal and Jennifer ran a shower for him as promised. He flinched when a hand landed on his bare back as he stood under the spray and he heard the unit door shut. Her naked body pressed against him and he wished he could see her beautiful curves once more. Using his other senses, he explored her soft skin with his hands, and listened to her sighs of pleasure.

Jennifer tugged him forward until he heard her back hit the unit wall. Her hands braced on his shoulders and she leapt, wrapping her legs around his waist. He gripped her so she wouldn’t fall, and then his lips found hers. Siril kissed her hungrily, as if it were the last kiss they would ever share. His cock surged to life, hard and throbbing. Jennifer rubbed against him as the scent of her arousal teased his nose.

“I want to make you come,” he said. “I want to hear you scream my name.”

  “I want that too.”

“I’m going to set you down and I want you to stay against the wall.”

He let her slide down his body and when her feet touched the floor, he knelt in front of her. His hands caressed her thighs before pushing them wide and lifting them over his shoulders. Gripping the curve of her ass, he lifted her to his mouth. The taste of her exploded on his tongue as he licked her slit. Jennifer cried out and her hands fisted in his hair. He remembered her rubbing her clit to make herself come in the limo and he sought it out with his tongue, circling the little bud. He licked, sucked, and teased as she begged him to never stop. Every time her body tensed, ready to come, he’d slow his motions and ease off, then he’d build her back up again. When he finally let her come, her juices coated his chin and her cries filled his ears. Her thighs shook and her body trembled.

Siril helped her stand and turned her to face the wall. His hand slid down her belly and teased her pussy, drawing a moan from her. She was so hot and so damn wet. Siril gripped her hips and lifted her up a bit, then slowly lowered her onto his cock, the sweet curve of her ass nestled against him. He couldn’t stop the groan that slipped past his lips and thrilled in the way her pussy gripped him tight.

He pulled his hips back then slid inside of her again. He was deeper from this ang
le and his control was slipping. He took her slowly, every thrust drawn out to build her pleasure. Slow. Deep. His fingers teased her clit until she was begging him to fuck her hard and fast, but he maintained his pace, knowing she would come harder than ever before.

His muscles strained as he fought to control himself. His steady rhythm had her shivering and soon she was screaming his name. As her release coated his cock, he moved faster, deeper, harder until his hips were slapping against her. When she came again, he let himself go. He called out her name as spurt after spurt of hot cum filled her tight sheath. When his balls were drained, his cock buried deep in her pussy, he just held her close, his heart pounding in his chest.

“I think… I think that’s the most explosive sex I’ve ever had,” Jennifer said. “And you were worried about not seeing.”

Siril chuckled a little. “It seems there are some things I can do with or without my sight. As long as I can please my mate, then nothing else matters.”

“Let me catch my breath and we can try that again,” she said. “I think the worry you put me through deserves at least three more orgasms.”

He nipped her shoulder. “Three seems like such a paltry amount. Why don’t I just keep you up all night and give you at least ten more?”

She groaned. “I don’t think my body could handle ten more.”

“Let’s find out,” he whispered in her ear.

He took her twice more in the shower before they cleaned up and retired to the bedroom. He could feel the warmth of the suns rising before he finally allowed her to rest. Sleep didn’t come for him right away, but he was content. No. He was happy. If he’d thought being inside of his mate was pleasurable before, it was even better when he had to rely on his other senses. The experience was richer, more intense. And he couldn’t wait to do it again. And again. He didn’t see any reason for them to leave the bed for the next few days, except to eat and use the facilities. The rest of the time he planned to keep her begging for more of his cock.

Perhaps being retired wouldn’t be so bad.

  Epilogue

  One Month Later

Siril chased Jennifer around the living room, listening to her giggle as she fled. They’d already made love twice today, but that had been hours ago, and he was hungry for his mate again. His fingers brushed against her before he heard her start running the other way.

“I’m going to catch you and when I do you’ll be punished for your insolent behavior,” he told her with a smile.

“Oh. I’m scared. Are you going to punish me with that monster cock of yours?”

“I’ll take you so damn slow you’re begging for release. I’ll keep you on the edge and draw it out forever.”

Jennifer moaned. “You aren’t playing fair.”

The door chime sounded and Siril sighed, knowing his fun was ended for the moment. But once they got rid of whoever was on their doorstep, he would have his mate naked in their bed.

  “I’ll get it,” Jennifer said.

Siril followed at a slower pace and arrived as the door was shutting.

“Siril, Borgoz is here to see you,” she said.

“I hope I’m not interrupting anything,” Borgoz said with amusement.

Siril cleared his throat and tried to discreetly readjust himself. “Not at all.”

“I wondered if we could speak for a moment? I have a proposition for you.”

“I’ll go get some drinks for the two of you. Why don’t you sit at the table for your meeting?” Jennifer suggested.

Siril led the way to the dining table and pulled out a chair. He heard Borgoz sit as well and waited for his friend to speak. Not a word was said until after Jennifer had delivered their drinks and left the room again.

“Is this something that couldn’t be said in front of my mate?” Siril asked.

“I’ve actually spoken to Jennifer briefly about this already, just to see if she would be open to it. I didn’t want to cause strife in your mating.”

  “I don’t understand,” Siril said.

“You seem to be enjoying retirement,” Borgoz said. “You’re by your mate’s side at all times, unless she’s spending time with her friends. I wondered if you would be willing to give some of your time to your people once more.”

“My days as a warrior are over,” Siril said. The pain those words would have once caused didn’t give him even a twinge now.

“I had something else in mind. The council and I have been in discussions the past few weeks, and with the new development with the Destrentes, we’re a little overwhelmed. While Lila agreed to mate with their prince, there’s still the issue of other females to contend with. The Destrentes agreed to leave us in peace if we provided females to them, and we plan to do it. Even if negotiations with Earth aren’t going as well as I’d hoped. So, we’ve added an additional council seat. It’s only a part-time position when our load is heavier than usual. Of course, the person taking that seat would be brought in on all major decisions as well. They’d have full council powers and benefits, just not as many hours away from home.”

  “A new council seat?”

“We want you to take the position,” Borgoz said. “Jennifer said if that’s what you wanted to do she would give her support. She worries you’ll grow bored staying around the house. And I know you miss helping the people. This would allow you to do that and still have plenty of time at home with your family.”

“Say yes,” Jennifer hissed from the doorway.

Siril chuckled. “It seems I’m supposed to say yes.”

  “You’ll do it?” Borgoz asked.

“Yes,” Siril said. “I’m honored to accept the position.”

“Excellent!” He heard Borgoz stand. “Our next meeting is in a week. We’ll expect to see you there for at least part of it. I’ve promised Jennifer we won’t monopolize your time.”

Siril stood. “I’ll see you next week.”

“No,” Jennifer said. “You’ll see him tomorrow. Charlotte invited us for dinner.”

  “I stand corrected,” Siril said.

Borgoz laughed. “Very well. As you were. I’ll see myself out.”

Jennifer moved closer. “I don’t think he was fooled. He knew exactly what we were doing when he arrived.”

“You know,” Siril said. “This table is pretty sturdy.”

“You’re not taking me on the table where we eat. Just like I wouldn’t let you take me on the kitchen counters.”

Siril sighed. “Fine. I’ll give you to the count of five to get to our bedroom and strip.”

“And if I don’t?” she asked.

“Then I will strip you naked where you stand when I get to five, and take you right there. And a door chime won’t stop me.”

  “Siril.”

  “One.”

  “You’re serious?” she asked.

  “Two.”

She squeaked and he heard her take off toward the bedroom. He followed and when he reached their room, he shut the door and stripped out of his clothes. Hearing movement across the room, he found her by the window, her soft skin bare for his enjoyment. With the afternoon suns caressing them, Siril made love to his mate. Slowly. Tenderly. Savoring every moment, and every cry of pleasure. When they were too weak to stand, he moved them over to the bed and crawled in next to her.

Jennifer curled against his side and rested her head on his shoulder. “I told you you were still a warrior.”

“Because I can fuck you until your legs don’t work?”

She giggled. “Well, the stamina is nice, but no… You might not be able to go into battle, but now, as part of the council, you will still be a warrior for your people.”

“Did you know this would happen?” he asked.

“No. Not this specifically. But I knew you’d find a way to help them. It’s just who you are. Even if Borgoz hadn’t made this offer, you’d have found another way.”

He kissed her softly. “I love you.”

“And I love you. I always will.

“Even though I’m not some revered badass anymore?”

Her lips met his and her hand reached for his cock. “You’ll always be my badass. Now why don’t you show me just how bad you can be?”

Siril grinned as he rolled his mate onto her back and spent the rest of the afternoon making her scream his name.

Sometimes life gave you exactly what you needed. And all he’d ever need was right there in his arms.
