About the Author
Chapter One
Charity daydreamed and obsessed over things a lot. She was sitting in her desk staring off into space thinking of her first day at Wolf Mate. She’d learned so much about the world of pure bred wolves, and how some of them could be very mean. Her mother had dressed her for her first day, more eager for her to do well than she was.
Charity’s First Day
“Is that what you are going to wear?” Her mother asked making a bit of a sour face in response to the outfit Charity had on. She pointed a long manicured nail from top to bottom and scowled. Her face could be quite unattractive for such a beautiful wolf.
“You don’t like it?” Charity asked and frowned.
“It’s your first day of work at Wolf Mate! You need to be dressed to impress.” Her mother helped herself to Charity’s closet and pulled out a much more flattering and… sexy red and black dress for Charity.
“Mom! I’m going to work, not to a bar.”
Her mother laughed and more or less forced the dress on her. “You need to look your best. You want Helen and Christy to find you a nice purebred wolf mate to settle down with. You need to look like you’re trying at least, so you know you get matched up with someone cute.” Charity sighed but nodded and gestured her mother to get out so she could get dressed.
“Ok, now go. I’m going to be late!”
Finally getting approved to leave, Charity made her way to Wolf Mate where she met up with Helen and Christy. She wasn’t sure why she thought staying the night at her mother’s house before her new job was a good idea anyway. Her mother was really into her life and wanted to make sure she always knew what was going on. It had always been that way.
They spent a lot of time going over the job with her. She was happy to hear about the different clients and some of the problems they had ran into over the years. It seemed she wolves were extremely difficult to match because they were so picky. Somehow the conversation had turned to her love life and they started to talk about it. She told them about her parent’s desire for her to be with a purebred.
Helen laughed and interrupted. “I disagree. I think you should be with a nice alpha! Don’t you worry your pretty little head about it! We will find and fix you up with a nice alpha and your parents will love him.”
The conversation seemed to go on for an eternity as Helen and Christy took turns grilling her. They wanted to know every detail about Charity. Her likes, her dislikes, her interests. They also wanted to know what her ideal mate would be like. If she met the perfect mate right now, what would she want him to be like both personality wise and physically?
“The cool thing is now that we’ve finished the interview, you understand what you are going to be doing for the most part. Just interviewing the girls and guys that come in here. We record everything, because it would take forever to take notes. We store it into this software on the computer and it matches up mates based on how they answer questions during the interview. It is up to you to learn as much as you can about them.” Helen smiled.
Charity nodded. The worked seem easy – and fun. It hardly seemed like work at all. She couldn’t wait until she had the stupid happy look on her face like Christy and Helen did. She wanted to be in love too.
It had now been a month since that fun first day and she wasn’t in love yet. It didn’t bother her too much because she really loved working with Christy and Helen. It was a lot of fun to help people find the wolf they were supposed to be with.
“Earth to Charity, come in Charity.” Helen was bent down in her face snapping her fingers at her.
“Sorry,” she blinked and looked at her boss embarrassed she was caught staring into space on the job.
“Where is that pretty head of yours?” Christy asked. She beamed from the other side of the office. Both women’s happiness was contagious. It truly was a beautiful thing when a wolf found it’s other half, she was more than ready. She had been getting closer to Christy over time and she always knew when Charity was daydreaming.
“I was just thinking about my first day and how much I’ve learned since then.”
“I’m happy you said that,” Helen said, “because I have to go out with Elisa for a little bit, and Christy has an appointment for the twins with Curtis today.”
Charity looked over at the beautiful curvy blonde and watched her cup her stomach. Christy and Curtis were perfect for one another and their boys were going to be beautiful. Charity sighed and missed what Helen was saying as she thought of what her mate’s children would look like.
“Sorry what,” Christy giggled and Helen just shook her head.
“I said you are going to have to put everything you’ve learned to the test because we are going to be gone at the same time. Think you can handle it?”
“I can,” Charity was excited to prove herself. Elisa came to get Helen and kissed her mate sweetly before going over to fawn all over Christy. The strong alpha female radiated a sort of power all over the office, but her affection for Helen made her less scary.
Charity went back into her daydreams and started singing as she filed away some folders. One day it would be her turn.
Chapter Two
Charity took an early lunch so the girls would be able to leave when she returned. She went to the café up the street to get a sandwich and a drink. She wasn’t super hungry because it was a lot earlier than she was used to eating. She had decided to get something light to hold her over and take something to go. Helen had already left and she didn’t like to leave Christy at the office alone for too long since she was in her third trimester.
As she enjoyed her sandwich, her eyes darted around the room of the café. She noticed tons of happy couples. Giggling and cuddling up together. Even families with children. This is what they were working to make possible at Wolf Mate, and it made her happy. They were helping wolves find their mates. She smiled as she continued to watch the people all around her. She hoped that one day she would be one of the obnoxious halves to a perfect couple snuggling in a booth at a café shop.
It was funny how it worked for most of their clients. They
weren’t always matched up with their true mate, and they weren’t willing to wait for that magical day when they came across one another. They simply wanted to breed and marry someone pure bred. Every once in a while they would come across their true mate when they were looking for someone compatible. For Helen and Christy their mates had come across them by using the service, she wondered if it would be that easy for her.
Taking the last few bites of her sandwich she realized what time it was and decided it was a good idea to get back and check on Christy. Hopefully Curtis would be there with her by now.
Charity returned to see Marcus and Christy talking quietly in the corner. He looked up when she came in and offered a warm greeting.
“Charity you look lovely today, isn’t my wife glowing. She’s beautiful.” He beamed and it warmed Charity’s heart up a little bit.
“She’s always beautiful, you two go ahead, I’ve got this.”
Before heading at the door, Christy excitedly made her way over to Charity. “Listen, there is a case file we left on your desk. You should give the alpha we found a phone call and arrange a meeting for him and his match.”
Charity nodded. Her first assignment without their help was exciting and terrifying. She picked up the phone to call him and waited for an answer.
“Is this Kieron?” She hoped she pronounced his name correctly.
“Yes, who is this?”
“Hi! This is Wolf Mate calling about your matches.” She was kind of nervous about setting someone up with their destiny it was a little much to handle.
“I’ve been waiting for your call.” Well he got right to the point didn’t he? No pleasantries coming from this guy.
“We’ve finished compiling your information and we believe we have found a perfect match for you. We highly recommended first meets at the Blackout Bar. If that works for you, I can call her up and get her to meet you there tonight.”
“Sounds great.” Kieron responded before hanging up the phone.
Charity smirked pleased with herself as she cracked open the file to find the name of the girl she was supposed to be calling to set up the date with. She froze when she realized it was her picture in the file. This was her case file? She bit her lip and felt her heart racing inside of her chest. It felt like it was going to explode. This match up was for her?! Couldn’t they have warned her! She found a note.
Hey love, we took Kieron’s picture out of his file so you couldn’t make any assumptions about him until you met him. Make sure to have a good time. You’re welcome.
Helen and Christy
She’d been duped, but she couldn’t help but feel a little excited about meeting her potential mate, she started to obsess over what she would wear. It got a little weird when she started to practice what they would talk about and found herself having an entire conversation with Christy’s chair. She felt like it was probably a great idea to be prepared.
Chapter Three
Charity played with her straw and tried to get a hold of her nerves. It was almost time for him to meet her there. She’d been so anxious she’d arrived way too early. There was part of her that wanted to be angry at her friends for catching her off guard, but another part of her was grateful.
She bit her lip and tried to tell herself she needed to calm down. He definitely wasn’t going to like her if she was nervous and awkward the entire time. She sighed and looked around the room trying to spot him. She was looking for someone casually dressed. Her heart sank a little when she realized every man in the bar was dressed in suits and ties. He wasn’t here yet.
She had to remind herself she had gotten there early.
Taking a sip of her water she watched the door knowing the waitress probably thought she was being stood up. Next time she had a date, she would only arrive five minutes early. A man walked in to the bar and her heart sped up, that had to be him. He was so attractive and brooding. His longer brown hair hung into his face and the t-shirt he wore stretched across a toned chest that made her mouth go dry. She could see why he was an alpha, but couldn’t figure out why he would need to use Wolf Mate to find a woman. Seriously there should be women dripping off of him as much testosterone as he put off.
She could feel her wolf stirring around inside of her as she spotted him. That never happened so it was a different feeling. She couldn’t help but blush when he walked over to her and caught her staring at him.
“Kieron?” She questioned in a soft and shy voice. He nodded in response and sat down beside her before gesturing the bartender to buy her a drink.
“Sure, and you are?” He smiled and she melted a little.
“Charity, they didn’t tell you much about me either huh? The tricky devils.”
Nodding he waved a waitress over and ordered a drink. Some beer she’d never heard of and asked if she was ready to order. The waitress had watched her stare at the menu for at least fifteen minutes so she said she was.
She ordered a Greek salad and smiled as he ordered a steak close to rare and a baked potato. Her mouth watered and she wished she’d ordered the same. Her wolf stirred again as she watched him lift the beer to his lips and then make a satisfied sound as he put it back on the table.
“So tell me Charity, what do you do?”
“I work at Wolf Mate, the same place that set us up. My co-workers tricked me and set me up with you instead of one of our other clients. I’m pure bred,” she rushed to tell him. She didn’t want him to think she was some crazy stray trying to land an alpha.
“So you will be there tomorrow?”
“Oh no, we don’t work on weekends. I’m off tomorrow and Sunday.” She was glad to have the weekend to relax. There was a book she’d been dying to read. Of course, if Kieron wanted to see her again, then the book could wait. Hell, everything could wait, she wanted to soak up all the time she could with him.
After the food came she became adventurous and ordered a vodka cranberry. It was something she almost never did. Charity knew she needed to be careful about just how many drinks she had. The last thing she wanted was to drink so much and do something stupid. Fortunately, it wasn’t that easy for wolves to get drunk. Their natural body heat had the tendency to burn off the alcohol as fast as they consumed it. Unfortunately, she was a little on the small side and a bit of a lightweight.
“So, you’re the alpha of your pack?” Charity asked sipping her drink and spearing an olive. The salad was good, but she was self-conscious about eating in front of someone. She kept checking her teeth in her fork and then wondered if he noticed.
“Yes, I’m currently at an impasse with my pack though,” he said and looked away from her. She wondered what type of drama he could have with his people but didn’t press.”
“Oh, well my father is an alpha. He’s the alpha of the Nightstalker pack.”
“So you know all about the drama then,” she didn’t but nodded anyway.
They smiled at each other and continued to engage in casual conversation for the rest of the night. The bartender announced that it was last call and the bar was closing. Kieron led her out the door and offered to give her a ride home on his motorbike.
“Listen, I’d like to see you again if that’s okay? You don’t work tomorrow so how about I pick you up in the morning and we go for a ride into the country.”
“I’d like that Kieron, thank you for bringing me home and such a nice dinner.” He leaned in and pressed his lips to hers briefly before turning and walking away. She giggled as she closed the door and touched her lips. How amazing to connect so well with the first alpha she met. She texted the girls.
Went well tonight, I’m seeing him again tomorrow.
Helen replied, Get you some hot stuff.
Christy said, Squee, I knew you would like him. I’ll get the details from you on Monday, enjoy the weekend.
Charity fell asleep soon after knowing she would dream of him.
Chapter Four
The next day she agonized over what to wear for a motorbike ride thro
ugh the country. Finally she put on jeans and layered a long sleeve short over a short one. She had never ridden for a long time on one and didn’t know if she’d be cold.
He was there right at one o’clock and she’d been ready for hours.
“You look beautiful,” he smiled sweetly and leaned in to peck her cheek. “Let’s go.”
The ride was nice and she felt happy simply to wrap her arms around him and enjoy the passing scenery. They rode for about an hour and a half before coming to a field that was fenced in. The owner had lined the entire exterior of it with wild flowers and it was beautiful.
“It’s gorgeous,” she gushed as she moved towards the fence to get a closer look at the flowers. He leaned against a tree and watched her.
“You’re gorgeous,” he told her as he grabbed her hand and pulled her to him. She didn’t stop him as he moved closer and brought his mouth to hers. His hands held either side of her face as he kissed her gently. She was lost, her knees felt weak, and her whole body was on fire. She wrapped her arms around his neck and stood on her tiptoes opening her mouth to him.
He pressed his hot tongue inside and explored as she moaned against him. His hands moved up and down her back as she let her fingers thread through the hair at his neck. She felt the warmth of his body spread through her and catch her on fire.
He pressed her up against the tree and ran his mouth up her jaw and over her ear. She shivered and felt desire pool in her abdomen. She wanted him so badly. He scooped her up by her ass and held her to him. He kissed her deeply and she wrapped her legs tightly around him. She could feel his desire growing and the hardness pressed into her causing her to gasp and jump down. She wasn’t adventurous enough to have sex in a field against a tree no matter how much her wolf wanted to.
“Let’s get home, it’s going to rain.” His eyes were full of desire and she breathed heavily nodding as they got back on the motorbike.
