“And each other,” he said devilishly, catching up to me in a second and sweeping me low in his arms. I squealed as he brought me back to my feet. “And I want to have you…Somewhere new.”
“Mmm,” I thrilled, feeling my body responding to his words and the idea implied by them. “How would you propose to have me?”
“Oh, you know,” he said, pulling me very close and nuzzling against my ear. I felt his breath and shivered. “I want to have you…”
“In the car,” I guessed, and he laughed.
“No,” he said, and kissed my forehead. “That was last week, remember?”
“Okay,” I said, and he opened my door for me as I sat down. “What about…the kitchen table?”
“Old hat,” he said, and pretended to yawn while I slapped his shoulder. “Been there, done that.”
“Wow,” I said, laughing. “Alright. What about…the movie theater?” I let my fingers creep along his thigh as he buckled his seatbelt. He winked at me, took a deep breath, and then revved the truck’s engine.
“Two weeks ago,” he said, grinning, and we both laughed.
“You are hard to please,” I said. We took in our pretty little town on the way home, and I let my mind race. What was left?
“What about…”
“Antarctica?” He raised both his eyebrows as he looked at me, and I almost fell over laughing. It took me a minute to realize he wasn’t joking.
“Really baby? Of all the places in the world? Antarctica?”
“Well, it’s the first ‘a,’” he explained, making it sound perfectly logical. “There’s Antarctica, Australia, Austria…”
“Okay,” I said, giggling helplessly. “But what about Alaska? Can we start with that instead?”
He grinned at me. “Maybe for starters. I’ve definitely never had you in Alaska, that’s true.”
“You can have me in the last ‘a,’ and all the ones in-between,” I said softly, cradling his cheek as he parked the car.
“What’s that?” His voice was low, and he slid his hands over to my lap, caressing my legs and reaching up to pull me closer. “Or, where’s that, I guess?”
“Anywhere,” I whispered, and kissed him. The warmth of his body made me instantly happy and safe, his strong body waking me up inside.
“Anywhere is good,” he said, pulling me into his lap. “And I guess Alaska will do. But I was really thinking of somewhere…”
“What?” I asked, leaning back against the steering wheel so I could look into his eyes. He reached up to my now bare shoulders, using one rough finger to trace the shape of a heart on the skin of my chest with his eyes locked on mine.
“Farther,” he whispered, and I knew exactly what he meant.
