The Healing Mendez (Vitrian Secrets, #1) Page 18

by Dele Andersen

“No, you can't leave him there,” Celina shouted at the man who came for her. “He is your best friend!”

“He made his choice to stand against me, and he kept you secretly away, for years,” the man pulling her said with his voice intense with anger.

“Bathe...?” Xavier said in confusion as he stretched his hand towards the door where Celina's voice was coming from. Within a few seconds, his vision became more explicit, and he forced himself up, walked towards the wall, and saw Marcus on the floor.

“Marcus,” Xavier rushed to his friend lying on the floor. He realised his friend was bleeding profusely.

“Oh, God!” He exclaimed, seeing the deep wound on Marcus' temple as he turned Marcus over. “I have to get you help,” he said in haste when he noticed Marcus' breathing was slowing down significantly.

“Where is he?” Marcus said gently.

“Who?” Xavier enquired and then thought quickly.

He realised Marcus was referring to the person who took Celina. “He's gone. He took Celina with him.”

“We have to get her back ...” Marcus wanted to continue, but he was frail.

“Don't talk, Marcus.” Xavier tried to look around the room for anything he could use to help his friend, but he wasn't familiar with the house he was in and didn't even know if there was any healing ointment in the house. Marcus had invited him to the house, but Xavier had never been there before.

Suddenly, he realised Marcus was pulling him closer. He bent over with his ear towards his longtime friend.

“We have to get her back; the lives of the children depend on ...”

“Let her go, Marcus,” Xavier pleaded. “You kept her for years.”

“Take care of the children.” He heard Marcus say gently. Marcus was stressing the words as he began to cough.

  “What children?”

“The children with The Chosen traits, as well as my children,” Marcus said gently and then pointed behind Xavier. “All three of them ...”

Xavier looked behind quickly and saw there was a door opened, leading into a dark room. He looked back immediately at his friend and wanted to ask why he was pointing towards the room behind him and why he said, three children. Xavier only knew about Jason and Wanda. Although, he could now guess that the rumours were probably true, that Marcus had a child with Celina. He knew Marcus had kept Celina away for years, but right now, Xavier wasn't too concerned about rumours because his friend was dying.

“And, Wanda ...” Marcus coughed out the words, shaking scarily as he coughed.

“What about Wanda,” Xavier turned back instantly, but the strength in his friend was feeble. Marcus coughed again as his breath reduced. “Celina ... Wanda will destroy The Chosen children ...” He stopped.

“What?” Xavier was perplexed, wondering why Marcus was still talking about Celina and what 'Wanda will destroy The Chosen children' meant.

“Make me a vow,” Marcus said very faintly and coughed. “Protect Wanda, protect the children ...” Marcus raised his voice with all the energy he could gather to make sure Xavier heard him. “Vow,” he said as loud as he could, knowing Vitrians are bound to their vows.

“I vow to protect Wanda,” Xavier answered quickly and then included in haste. “Also, Sofia and Jason.... stay with me, Marcs.” He called Marcus by his old teenage nickname, though he didn't understand the danger in the words Marcus spoke.

“Keep my children away from Ake...uah,” the words came out so faintly that Xavier struggled to understand it. “The curse will destroy all The Chosen.”

“Ark...” Xavier mumbled, looking confused and trying to understand what his friend was saying. He had never heard the name or word 'Akeuah' before, not in North America where he came from and not since he relocated from North America to Norway.

“What curse?” Xavier questioned but realised his friend was motionless.

“Marcs, Marcs,” Xavier shouted and then realised his friend was gone. Xavier raised Marcus' head gently to confirm that his friend had crossed over on to the other side. Tears trickled down his cheeks as he shut his eyes together in anger, then he laid his friend down.

“Rest, my old friend,” Xavier spoke the words out in pain. He gently placed his hands on Marcus' eyelids and closed them.

He got up and walked away towards the wall, where he came through when he became conscious. Facing the wall and still vexed, he placed his left hand on the wall and used his right hand to search for his phone, then made a quick call.

“Marcus is gone,” Xavier said to the person at the other end of the line.

“What!” The person on the other side was surprised. “What happened?”

“I don't know,” Xavier answered after a short pause.

He was still trying to manage the anger in his voice. “I was knocked unconscious. I didn't see what happened or who did it. I only heard Celina screeching; I guess that was when it happened.”

“No, not Marcus,” the person objected.

“Marcus wants us to protect his family – that was his dying request.” Xavier informed the person.

  “I am coming over.”

“No, it’s too late now,” Xavier answered. “But, you must vow to keep Wanda, Jason, and Sofia safe.”

“Are you sure he is dead?”

“Yes,” Xavier replied painfully and spoke out very audibly, almost shouting out the words in annoyance, “Marcus is dead. He is gone! There is nothing we can do now ...”

Suddenly, like he had said something wrong, he heard a loud cry coming from the room that Marcus was pointing at. The door to the room was directly behind him, so he turned immediately and faced the room.

He switched the phone off while the person on the other end was still trying to talk. Xavier realised there was something in the room, something that wasn't there before when Marcus pointed towards the room. He squinted his eyes to see what was in the room, and then the most astonishing shock hit him; he realised Marcus' body was no longer on the floor where he left him.

Xavier looked confused because there was no sign of dragging or Marcus himself crawling; the body was just gone from the spot on the floor, leaving the traces of blood on the floor, like he vanished from the spot.

Xavier was still looking bewildered when an unusual sound came from the room. He turned and positioned himself for whatever was going to emerge from the room. He couldn't see who or what was in there; all he noticed was that whatever was in the room was big. It groaned in anger in a deep voice.

“Marcus,” he called in confusion, thinking his friend had found a way to move his body and transform.

Unexpectedly the thing turned in the dark room and looked in Xavier's direction, its eyes fixated on Xavier. Xavier instantly brought out a Vitrian weapon out. He had already lost his Praying Méndez in the battle before he was knocked unconscious. The symbol on the weapon in his hand glittered brightly, signifying the presence of a demon.
