This book was written during my first three semesters at the Stonecoast MFA in Creative Writing. It wasn’t workshopped there (I was busy writing poetry), but I hope being there infused it with some of the creative energy and community of that program. Thanks to all of the faculty and administration—there are too many of you to name, but some of your advice about writing social justice work and writing good sentences stuck in my head. Hopefully some of that also came through onto the page.
Thanks most of all to people who read my work, review my work, talk about it, and who send me messages. All of those things matter greatly to me and convince me I may be writing into a conversation and not into a void.
