  She nods, and sighs, “Okay.”

We walk back to the table, and she looks miserable. I ask for a box from our waitress, and when it arrives I scrape the food remaining on my plate into it.

When the waitress offers Lani a box for her nachos, she gives a resounding, “No.” Her face goes all pale again.

“Sorry,” I say to Burke and Riley, as I glance at the TV once more to check the score.

“Do what you gotta do,” Riley answers, and waves us off. So I have my arm wrapped protectively around her waist, while still trying to hold the Styrofoam container, as we head toward the elevators. I’m looking around at everyone, waiting for someone to pull a gun. No one does.

“I’m okay, really,” Lani protests, but as soon as I let her go the elevator lurches, and she stumbles against me. She grabs me tight, and I smile down at the top of her head. When we are standing at the door, she produces the key and opens it. I sit my food down on the desk.

I make sure I’m facing her when I ask, “Baby, do you want to go see a doctor?” I feel helpless, and I need to be able to gauge her emotions to help me figure out how to act, or react.

She shakes her head, and leans on me until we’re in the bedroom, then she hurries to the bathroom. I think she’s going to be sick again, so I turn on the TV and find the game, and settle into the bed. But she quickly comes out dressed in shorts and a tank top, showing too much of her delectable little body.

Then, she hurries toward the sitting room, and returns with my food. “Are you going to eat this?” As she asks, she joins me on the bed and curls up against my body. She wiggles around, until she’s comfortable, then opens the box. She takes one of the chicken fingers, and offers me the other.

I have absolutely no idea what’s going on, so I eat my chicken and watch the game, while she cheers beside me. I don’t think I’ve been this confused in a long time.

  Chapter Fifteen

  Tony

I stand just inside the bathroom door, while she’s barfing again. “Baby, do you want me to go downstairs and…”

“Leave me alone,” she yells, right before she starts hurling.

I take a step back, but suddenly change my mind. I walk into the bathroom, grab a washcloth, and run cold water over it. I wring it out, then grab a hand towel. I kneel beside her, and she jerks away from me. But I grab her hair with my right hand, then hold it in my left hand. I place the wash cloth on the back of her neck, then hand her the towel as she flushes.

“Don’t ask me to leave you alone, Lani, because I can’t. I can’t, and I won’t, ever leave you alone.” She turns toward me, and gazes at me with her bright green eyes that look like they’re full of tears. She wipes her mouth with the towel, then grabs the cloth off her neck and wipes her too pale cheeks. “We’re in this together, baby, you and me.”

She nods at me, and rests her head against my shoulder. “Tony, I’ve never felt this way before. I feel sick, and then I’m starving. I feel this urgent need to drink coffee, which isn’t that different from every other day, but for some reason, I want French fries.”

“Then why did you order nachos last night?” I wonder aloud.

“Because I don’t even like French fries,” she whines.

I wrap my arm around her shoulder, and pull her into my body. I grin, even though she can’t see me. I think I know what the problem is, but I won’t say anything until she sees Doctor Foster. When she moves away, I reach down and kiss her forehead before she stands up. I watch her walk away in just her panties and her bra. I watch as she brushes her teeth. And then I pounce.

I am behind her in a split-second, and my hands are all over her. Both of them. My shoulder feels much better today, since it’s been nearly two weeks since I was shot.

“Tony,” she murmurs, just as she melts into my body. Her ass is against my thighs, her back is arched, and she snakes her hands over my shoulders and into my hair. I stare at her body in the mirror, and imagine what she’s going to look like in a few months, when she’s showing.

Gently, I move my hand over her still flat stomach, to her breasts, and she hisses, then purrs, and pushes her tits into my hands. “I love you so much,” I whisper into her ear, right before I tug on her bra to expose her perfect boobs. They’re going to be sensitive, and eventually they’ll get bigger.

She turns her head, and opens her mouth for my tongue. I playfully lick her lips, and she touches the tip of her tongue to mine, then licks down the underside of it. I’m always hard for her, and that little action reminds my cock of exactly what she can do with her mouth.

“The condoms are in the other room,” I say, as her hands move over my body to pull down my sweats. She sighs loudly, and grabs my big dick in both hands. My head is swimming, my heart is pounding, and my cock is twitching in response to her.

She continues to rub my huge erection with her hands, and tease me with her mouth. I allow her to play with me, as long as I can, until I can’t take any more. I grab her around her waist and pick her feet up off the ground, then carry her into the bedroom. She giggles and squirms against me, until I place her on the bed. And then she’s up on her hands and knees to retrieve the condoms, as she pulls her underwear down to her knees. I grab her and bring her against me, as I pull on the protection. I’m sure I won’t be using it for much longer.

She moans, and pleads, and sighs, as I enter her gently from behind. I realize, from now on, I’m going to have to be super gentle with her. I can’t cause her to bleed again. I growl, loudly, as I place my hands on her hips, but not to pull her into me. I hold her so she can’t buck back into me and cause it to go deeper. I’m completely in control, and I only give her enough to make her moan.

She looks back at me, and says, “More.” So I move my right hand down, over her ass, and bend down a little to find her clit. “Yea,” she sighs as I rub it with my fingertips, and she arches her back. I only have a little more than half of my dick inside her, but I don’t care. It’s not all about me. It’s about taking care of her. Her bright, sparkling eyes are on mine, and I couldn’t look away if I wanted to. “I love you,” she says, right before I feel her muscles tighten.

“God, I love you, Lani,” I mutter, as I reach my climax with her.

  Lani

It’s so hard for me to relinquish control, but I do. I sit quietly in the chair, like a prim and proper lady, in my pretty emerald dress, that Tony said earlier matches my eyes. I wear a black jacket over it, and black heels. Tony told me three times how pretty I am. Not that it’s anything new, but I think that might be a little excessive. Also, he asked me if I was feeling okay four times, and if I needed anything five times. Just for you to quit asking me if I’m okay, I wanted to say. But, somehow I managed to politely smile and not bite his head off.

We are sitting in the office of the Legal Aid lawyer that Lauren had somehow managed to retain. Tony explains his evolving financial situation, but the lawyer assures him that he would not need to pay because she was actually Lauren and Max’s counsel.

“Lauren mentioned something about wanting to come see me for Thanksgiving. Is that still an option?” He’s so nervous his voice cracks. I don’t think I could possibly love anyone more than I love this man.

“We’re working that out, and we hope to let you know within the week,” the lawyer assures Tony.

“Can I see them, before I head back home to Winston?” Tony asks. There he goes again, tugging on my heart strings, calling my place home.

“If you’ll excuse me for a moment, I’ll call your ex-wife’s lawyer, and see if we can’t arrange something without involving the courts,” she offers.

I stand, but Tony remains seated. “So what happens if you can’t arrange something?” he continues.

I know the answer. As a cop, I’ve had to become involved in messy domestic situations. If both parties can act like adults, there’s no need for much litigation. But, that doesn’t always happen, and lawyers get rich off of it.

  “Well, it
s early in the day, who knows what we can pull off if she says no. I will remind the lawyer that you’re currently America’s sweetheart. How bad would it look if she says no?” The lawyer is younger than me, but she seems very sympathetic, and really smart.

“Wait right outside, and I’ll come get you when I know what’s happening.” When he stands up, I offer him my hand. He takes it, and although he looks unsure, he follows me back out to the waiting room. The receptionist can’t help but stare at the two handsome FBI agents in the waiting area, and of course Tony, who in the black pants and the white button down shirt, looks incredible and slightly official as well.

As soon as we sit down, my cell phone rings. It’s Doctor Dad, and since it’s nine-thirty in Pittsburgh, it is only eight-thirty back in Winston. Something must be really wrong. “Hello, what’s the matter?” I ask hurriedly.

“Well, it depends on which side of the debate you’re on,” he answers, in a very serious tone.

“Are you and Mom fighting again?” I demand. It has to be that.

“No, Liberty hasn’t had a drink since the break-in. And we’ve actually talked about a few things, including you and Addison.” His voice, and his manner, are unnerving.

“Something’s wrong, just tell me what it is.”

“You remember that I took blood when you started bleeding at the hospital?”

“Yes,” I reply. I stand up, and find a corner where I hope the men won’t overhear. “I’m sick, right? Is it stomach cancer? I’ve been throwing up since I left Winston. It’s cancer, isn’t it?”

“No, Lani. You’re pregnant.” His disappointment oozes through the airways.

“What? But I was bleeding,” I remind him.

“Women can bleed early on in their pregnancies. Some bleed throughout. But you’re pregnant. I checked it twice.” He sighs audibly. “Tell your man with the huge schlong to be careful with you from now on.” I’m reminded of how gentle Tony was with me this morning, uncharacteristically so.

I turn toward him, and he’s looking at me expectantly. Expectant… I guess that would be me now, again. His black, almond shaped eyes squint up, questioningly.

“Thanks, Doctor Dad. I guess that explains the vomiting.”

“You should get over that in a month or two. If it gets really bad, you should see Doctor Reynolds.” He pauses for a moment. “Well, you should see her anyway, as soon as you return to Winston.”

“Thank you again, Doctor Dad,” I say, as lovingly as possible.

“Take care of yourself, Lani.” The call ends abruptly. Well, he’s obviously not happy about it.

Tony is still gazing at me. I walk over to him, slowly. I sit down beside him, and whisper in his ear, “I’m having your baby.” I feel his shoulder shiver, as I softly kiss his cheek.

He turns toward me, with so much love in his dark eyes it’s almost overwhelming. Then, he kisses me, with so much emotion I have to laugh. I place my hand on his cheek, and his are in my hair, and we both chuckle as we kiss.

“Are you sure this time?” he asks me, between kisses.

  “I think so,” I sigh. “I think I am.”

The lawyer enters the waiting area just then. “Mr. Roman?” She speaks just loud enough to get our attention.

“Yes, ma’am,” Tony replies, and stands immediately.

“You’ll be able to have dinner with your kids this evening. Their mother will drop them at the restaurant, and wait while you have a meal with them.”

I glance at Tony, and I see him working it through in his head. “So, she wants to be there? She doesn’t want me to be alone with my kids.” He’s trying to sound like he’s not angry, but I can hear it in his voice, and I can see it in his black as night eyes.

“I think it’s a good idea, really. I mean, it’s been at least a decade since they’ve seen you. They were so young they probably don’t even remember you.” She says it softly, so as not to agitate him.

“But they’re my kids. I’ve known them all their lives.” He sounds frustrated, but he doesn’t raise his voice. “But, you’re right. It’s probably best.”

I’m so glad he sees reason. He nods, and follows the lawyer into her office. I wait with Burke and Riley. At least he’s had some really good news lately, especially today, finding out he’s going to be a dad again. He’s free, his financial situation has changed completely, and he’s going to be a father again. Hopefully that will keep him calm enough.

  Tony

“I’m so fucking nervous,” I say as I stare into the mirror. She’s sitting on the bed, and she’s grinning at me. I feel like she’s teasing me and I don’t like it. I let out a low groan.

“You look great, dear,” she assures me. She stands up, to wrap her arms around my waist. “Why are you so worried?”

“I want to make a good impression. Is it time to leave yet?” I look down at my wrist, and remember I’d left the watch I used to wear on missions with Max. I rub my wrist absent-mindedly.

“We still have an hour and a half before we have to be there. Killian says it will only take fifteen minutes to get to the restaurant.” Her hands roam over my back, and down my sides.

I stare at the jeans and t-shirt I’m wearing. “This is too casual,” I complain, and begin to take off the shirt. “I don’t look like a dad.” I frown at myself in the mirror.

“You look just like a dad. You look like a baby daddy, specifically my baby daddy” she says, and grins happily. “But this will be the third outfit you’ve had on today. You change clothes more than me.” As soon as the shirt is over my head, her hands are on my body.

“Lani!” I exclaim, and jump away from her.

  “What’s wrong?” she demands.

“I just… I don’t know… I’m feeling anxious.” I turn toward her, and she’s pouting again. I hate it when she does that. “Lani, don’t be like that. I just have a lot of stuff on my mind.” She slightly pulls away from me, but I wrap my arms firmly around her waist.

“Wear the olive green pants, and the tan shirt.” Her eyes sparkle as they gaze at my lips, down over my neck, and my chest.

“You like that outfit, do you?” I hear my own words come out almost like a purr.

“I like a lot of things,” she murmurs, and moves her hands down and over my stomach. “I like so many things about you.”

“Baby,” I whisper, just as my hand touches her tummy. I almost can’t believe she’s going to have my baby. She’s going to be sick, hungry, tired, and horny, and she’s not even going to understand why. So I pick her up, and kiss her as I carry her to the bed. “We have to be careful, baby.” I say, as I lay her down gently. “God, I can hardly believe you’re really pregnant.” I whisper against her ear as I kiss her neck. “Are you really, baby?”

“I am, honey. I really am this time. There’s no going back,” she replies, as she nuzzles against my bare shoulder.

“Are you doing this to distract me?” I wonder aloud.

She shrugs, and I feel her warm breath on my skin when she giggles. “Maybe.”

I groan, and roll her over on top of me. I gaze into her eyes, and wonder for the millionth time what she sees in me. I touch her soft cheek, and she moves into my hand. She looks genuinely happy, like her leaf green eyes are lit from inside. She smiles at me, and the corners of her eyes crinkle and her cheeks become bright pink.

“Are you happy, baby? Are you happy that you’re going to have my baby? Are you happy about being stuck with me forever?” I search her eyes, and her beautiful face. All I see in her expression is love, and lots of it, and it’s all for me.

“I can’t think of a time I’ve ever been this happy. I never thought I’d be so excited to be pregnant. I’m glad it’s with you, Tony.” She’s laying on top of me, and gazing down at me like I’m the most amazing thing she’s ever seen. I hope she always looks at me that way. “Are you happy?”

“Oh, baby, I can’t tell you how happy I am.” I lean forward and kiss her lips gently. “I’m afraid
I’ll wake up, and I’ll be back in my cell, all alone again. I’m scared you’re just a dream, Lani. You’re too good to be true.” I kiss her again. “I don’t deserve this much happiness.” I gaze into her beautiful face, and touch her cheek. “I don’t deserve you.”

“Oh, Tony, you might not deserve me.” Tears sparkle in her eyes, and I think I hear a giggle in her raw voice. “I’m not sure any sane person deserves me.”

“Then we’ll be insane together,” I assure her. She smirks, and looks away. But I pull her beautiful face back to look at me. “We’re never going to be apart, baby. You’re stuck with me for the rest of your life.”

“You promise?” She’s staring at me as if she’s afraid I’ll say no. Doesn’t this woman realize that I’m completely in love with her? I try to let all my feelings show in my eyes. Hers grow wide, and I think maybe she sees the depths of my emotions.

“I swear, Melanie Grace Vaden, on the life growing inside of you, that I am going to love and cherish you forever.”

She smiles down at me, and I know she loves me too. Even though she doesn’t need to say it, she does. “I love you too, Gladiator.”

I groan in the back of my throat, and jerk my head away from her as she tries to kiss me. She places both her hands on my cheeks, and holds me still. “Why do you resist me, when you know I’d walk through hell just to kiss you?”

I grin at her, and lay still to allow her lips to press against mine. She nearly makes my heart stop with that gentle touch. I reach up and wrap her soft, dark hair around my fingers and pull her closer. Like a minx, she spreads her legs and straddles my hips. As soon as she grinds her soft core into me, my cock is at full attention.

“You just love getting fucked by me, don’t you?” My eyes scrunch up as I say it. I’m sure one of these days I’m going to go too far with my fuck-talk, and she’s going to slap me.

But she just grins at me, and wiggles her cute little ass. “Yes, honey, and I’m always gonna want it.” Her hand moves down my body, and grabs ahold of my erection through the fabric of my jeans. I see a flash of fear and excitement in her eyes. “God, I love you Tony.”
