He held her close, and for a long time they sat there clinging to each other.
Finally he pulled her back and stared at her. “That’s good to hear—that you love masterful men.”
“Oh, I do!”
Savage stared at her suspiciously. “I have what is called the Savage method of handling wives and children. Want to hear it?”
“Yes!”
Savage said with great firmness, “My plan is to give wives and children anything they want, and then they’ll hush and let a man alone.” He kissed her firmly, demanding, “How do you like it?”
Dani Ross, who had made a career of being independent, put out her hand and stroked Ben’s cheek. “I call that the Ross plan for keeping a husband happy,” she murmured. Then she smiled brilliantly, saying, “Oh, Ben, it’s going to be wonderful being married to you! We’re going to have a great time!”
Savage held her tightly and whispered, “From this day forward!”
They got up and walked outside, holding hands and looking up at the stars which glittered across the sky. A star burned its way across the velvet blackness, scoring the night with a silver line that slowly faded.
“Make a wish, Dani,” Ben said, squeezing her hand.
Dani turned to him and whispered, “No, Ben. God’s given me so much—there’s nothing left to wish for!”
