He felt Kiana’s hands on him as he stood in the middle of the room. “I like her. Why didn’t you tell me?”
“Because I needed you to trust me first. These two ladies…” He paused to look at his mom and the lady who’d become like a grandmother to him as they stood together. “They’re my family. Nico’s my brother. We don’t make sense. None of us should have gravitated to each other but we did.”
“Now I’m here,” she proclaimed loudly.
“That’s right, baby. Now you’re here. Come on, Ms. Tipsy, let’s go grab your stuff while they pretend they’re not listening to our conversation.”
“We’re not listening,” his mother called out before laughing.
“Yeah, keep on talking. We’re just waiting to hear when the wedding will be,” Big Mama cackled.
“I think I wanna hang out with them every weekend,” Kiana admitted as he led her upstairs.
He’d created a monster.
EPILOGUE
As Kiana walked toward Max, she couldn’t stop the tears from flowing. She never thought this day would come. Surrounded by the smiling faces of friends and family, she felt as if she were floating on cloud nine. Their wedding was being held in the backyard of his mothers’ house. They’d gone above and beyond her wildest dreams.
“You look beautiful, baby girl,” her dad whispered.
Smiling up at the man who’d shown her how a man should treat his wife, she smiled. Her dad hadn’t been perfect, but that was okay. Her momma said on more than one occasion that he was the perfect man for her, which made him the perfect daddy for Kiana.
“Thanks, Dad.”
If someone asked her to describe the wedding decorations, she’d be hard-pressed to remember anything beyond the man waiting for her. His black tuxedo fit him like a glove, accentuating his perfectly shaped form. Hair brushed back from his forehead gave him the classic, debonair look Kiana loved so much. And once she stepped into his line of sight, his chocolate gaze never left hers.
Looking to the side, she saw Max’s nephew Jeremy sitting next to his mother, Max’s aunt. They’d been able to clear him. When the young man who’d been beaten woke up, he confirmed Jeremy’s story. He’d been trying to help him. He’d heard the kids threaten him and saw Jeremy try to push them away from him. Both young men were still dealing with the aftermath of that night. But Max was making sure they both got what they needed.
They’d decided to forego the usual bridal party and groomsman, so it would be just the two of them standing at the altar, which was fine with her.
Three months after that fateful weekend trip, she was joining her life to the man of her dreams. During that time, she’d learned more about the business, and stayed in the dark on the areas that she didn’t need to be involved in. Max had to live in the darkness some days, but when he came home, she wrapped him up in the light. They gave each other balance.
No matter what Max did when he was away from home, when he returned, she cared for him. Loved him. Never judged the lengths he had to go to for his business, or to defend his people. She loved everything that made him who he was. And she always loved him, no matter how hard he fought against the demons trying to take him further into the abyss.
She shielded him when needed, and he protected her always. For her, for them, it was perfect.
Once they made it to Max, he shook her father’s hand, bringing him in for a half-hug.
“You treat my baby girl like the Queen she is, or you’ll answer to me.”
Kiana smiled.
“Every day for the rest of my life,” he promised her father.
Once her dad left to return to his seat, she turned to Max. “Thank you.”
“Baby, you never have to thank me for telling the truth. Without that man, you wouldn’t be here. You love him. You respect him. I want our children to look at me the same way. I want to feel that protectiveness for my daughters on their wedding day.”
“Daughters? As in multiple?” This man was crazy.
“Yup, and at least two sons. Now, let’s get married. The sooner we say ‘I do,’ the sooner we can start the honeymoon.”
Her laughter was loud in the quiet of the backyard. If she’d turned around, she’d have seen her mother, Max’s mother, and Big Mama all give each other a look of ‘What the hell are we gonna do with these two?’ Of course, they all wanted some grandbabies running around also, so they didn’t give Max too much trouble for his words. Just an eye-roll or two. The three women loved Max and Kiana fiercely, and knew they were meant for each other. The love reflected in their eyes when they looked at each other, was undeniable.
If Kiana had turned her head a bit further, she’d have noticed Nico giving Lavinia a look full of possessiveness. When her date leaned over to smile at her, resting his hand on top of hers, Nico’s control almost shattered.
The look on Nico’s face could be read from a mile away. Vini belonged to him. Her smiles should only be shared with him. It was time she stopped running away from what they were. Now that Max had captured his woman, it was time Nico did the same.

“Harder,” Kiana begged as Max pounded inside her body. Her nails were digging into his back. She arched her body into him, getting as close as she could. As he pressed into her, his pelvis rubbed against her clit. A slow burn quickly turned into blinding white heat. “Faster! Oh, please,” her strained voice called out.
He grunted, moving harder inside her flesh. The wet sound of their bodies coming together filled her ears as they rocked on the king-sized bed. She moaned as she reveled in the sensations coursing through her body. It was almost too much. She felt every amazing inch of him as he thrust harder into her, the bed shaking beneath them from his effort.
“Oh Max!” She twisted and squirmed. Her legs lifted high in the air as he pushed them to their limits, their bodies slick with perspiration.
“Yes,” he groaned, his hips rocking her into oblivion. “Come for me, baby. My wife.”
She moaned, clutching him and arching up, grinding her hips as her climax peaked and shuddered through her. A scream escaped, her hoarse voice cracking as she cried out in release. Tears leaked from her eyes as her orgasm washed over her again and again, causing her body to ripple and jerk.
“Oh fuck,” he grunted. “Goddamn heaven.”
Kiana smiled dreamily as her soft wetness fluttered around him, pulling him deeper. She knew the feeling had to be driving him crazy.
“Oh fuck, I'm going to come!” Max’s body went taut. His legs shifted higher, spreading her wider as he filled her body with everything he had.
Kiana felt the heat of him, a thick pulse between her legs, his shaft swelling with it and then bursting inside of her, making him groan and tremble. He collapsed onto her and she felt him shivering against her neck.
“Amazing,” she gasped as he rolled onto his side next to her. He continued to kiss her neck and face, while his hands roamed over her body, causing goose bumps to rise on her skin.
“That was all you, beautiful wife.”
He was quiet for a moment and she enjoyed a feeling of true contentment.
“This day was perfect,” she murmured. At the smile on his face, she kissed him. “What’s so funny?”
“I was just thinking. The man who sold his soul to the devil got his very own angel.”
This time the tears filling her eyes were because of the love she felt for the man lying next to her. “And I will always cover you in my love. You’re mine, Maxwell Bishop. Don’t you ever forget it.”
“Never. Now come here and give me what I want.” Pulling her close to him, he flipped them. He was now lying on top. Leaning down, he nipped at the skin behind her ear. “Say the words, baby,” he whispered.
Kiana smiled. “You want me to say it?”
“Give me what I need, angel. Say the words for me, baby,” he said again, accompanied by a press of his hips against her sensitive mound.
> Smiling, she put one hand on his jaw, turning his face to hers. Sucking his bottom lip into her mouth, her eyes caught the diamond engagement ring and the platinum band on her left hand. Damn, life had been good to her.
“If you want it, then you have to take it.”
Max released a primal growl before surging into her slippery channel. As her husband took her to the heights of passion, Kiana couldn’t help but smile.
The devil and the angel.
A perfect combination.
