If she wasn’t already in love with Dane, she would definitely fall in love with him now. To sacrifice his ambitions that way, all for her, was both unselfish and unbelievable.
“I love you.” The words burst out of her. She closed the distance between them and pressed her lips against his. The kiss was slow, sweet and tender. His fingers slid through her hair to hold her still. Their tongues tangled together. She sighed as she pulled away from him. “I can’t let you give up on your dreams. We’ll work something out so we can both compete at the next Games.”
And she knew she meant every word.
“I suppose we can try, but if it gets too much, I’m going to retire and you’re not going to argue with me.”
She stroked his cheek tenderly. “I spent last night at Susie’s. She still wants to train me. We’ll work on a modified schedule as long as we can. Then after I’ve had the baby, we’ll get back into training only when the doctor says it’s okay.”
“That’s great. And I can plan my schedule around yours. We will make this work, Brooke. I’m serious.” He slid off the couch and got down on one knee and she let the excitement she’d banished not long ago, burst into life again. “I know this wasn’t what you imagined was going to happen when you landed in Sydney but, as I said, we are meant to be. The stars aligned with my move coinciding with your arrival. Brooke King, will you do the honor of marrying me and moving in with me?”
“Yes,” she joined Dane on the ground. “Yes, I will marry you and move in with you. I know that things won’t be easy, but I believe we are meant to be, too.”
“We sure are, princess,” he said with that sexy grin that had pulled her into his orbit the first night they’d met.
As his arms closed around her and his head lowered, Brooke let herself succumb to the love and heat she and Dane generated together. Their relationship may have started out as just a trickle, but it had turned into an Olympic-sized love.
