“Tell her I can’t wait,” Kathryn said. “and that I promise I’ll set up that Skype call to catch up with her and Sam real soon.”
Though she missed Sandra, there was no better candidate to fill her spot in Portland after she and James set up the new office in Seattle four months prior.
Her cell phone rang as Lakisa left the office.
“Kathryn Denton Manticorp,” she said.
“That’s one hell of a mouthful, Mrs. Manticorp,” James said.
“I think it has one hell of a ring to it,” Kathryn laughed.
“You up for another photo shoot? Was thinking of heading to San Juan Island for some Orca watching.”
“Didn’t we just get back from Vancouver? I haven’t even unpacked yet.”
“Even better. Let’s look at next week, two, maybe three days. You’re stuck with me now, Kat. Wherever the wind blows, we follow.”
“You on your way?”
“Be there in a few,” James said. “I love you.”
“Love you, too,” Kathryn said, hanging up.
She touched the diamond ring on her finger, recalling the day James had proposed. So much had changed for everyone over the past year, and as she glanced at the city once more, she knew even more horizons lay beyond to explore.
