Frederick sat next to Professor Wilks who managed to force a smile.
‘I have just been updating the committee on the latest developments.’
‘Latest developments?’ Frederick said.
Stacy nodded. ‘Both President Eisenhower and Prime Minister Churchill conducted talks yesterday concerning the future of The Angel Committee. I know some of you may be reluctant to carry on especially with the loss of Sir Malcolm Chambers. But both the President and the Prime Minister feel that the committee should continue under new leadership and guidance.’
Frederick stared at the American.
‘So it is with great pleasure that I assume the role of Sir Malcolm and take charge of the Angel Committee.’
Looks were exchanged around the table.
‘I have an executive order from both the President and the Prime Minister, from now on The Angel Committee is to operate under the guidance of the United States authorities and all information and investigations will be submitted to the Majestic 12 Group and senator Jacob Barnes.’ General Stacy swept a gaze around the table. ‘Welcome aboard gentlemen, and god bless the Unites States of America.’

For interesting facts on UFOs and research I did for this book read on.
Postscript
By Philip Mantle
If you asked most members of the public what historical event took place on June 24th 1947 over the Cascade Mountains in the USA they would have no idea. Any UFO researcher should be able to tell you that this is the date that civilian pilot Kenneth Arnold, while flying over the Cascade Mountains saw a formation of delta-shaped objects which he could not identify. When asked later by a journalist how these objects moved through the air Arnold replied “like a saucer skipping over a pond” and the term flying saucers entered into popular culture.
It is nearly seventy years since that sighting by Kenneth Arnold. His observation like the UFO subject in general, has been hotly debated. Explanations for Arnold’s sighting range from a flock of pelicans, a mirage of the mountain peaks, rare natural phenomenon (earthlights), super-secret military aircraft and a whole lot more besides.
Much the same can be said about the whole UFO phenomenon. Just like the Arnold sighting it is still hotly debated, disputed in some quarters, with a whole raft of theories, ideas, claims and counter-claims surrounding it. Conspiracy theories are accepted in some quarters while scoffed at in others. It goes without saying that there is something for just about everyone in the world if UFO studies.
No matter what your personal belief is regarding the UFO subject there is one thing that remains steadfast and that is the UFO phenomenon itself. Despite the best efforts by a small number of debunkers to write the subject off whatever UFOs turn out to be they are still here, still being observed, respect no international boundaries and refuse to go away. Will they still be here in another seventy years, who knows?

Fact File
The story you have just read is a work of fiction. However there are several key elements which have their roots in factual events.
1. On July 28th 1952 Winston Churchill actually wrote a memo regarding flying saucers to Lord Cherwell (Frederick Lindemann) Churchill wrote ‘What does all this stuff about flying saucers amount to, what can it mean, what it the truth, let me have a report at your convenience.’
Cherwell wrote a memo back saying that he had discussed the matter with other people. It is not known whether or not Churchill maintained an interest in the UFO phenomenon.
During the 1950s a top secret group known as the flying saucer working party operated within the government. The group was led by Henry Tizard who helped develop radar during the war. Tizard felt that there was substance to the Flying saucer phenomenon. Churchill’s ‘flying saucer memo.’ Can be found at the National Archives in Kew. Other reports relating to flying saucers and the Flying saucer working Party can also be obtained.
2. Royal Equerry Sir Peter Horsley who is mentioned a number of times in the book claimed that he used to investigate UFO sightings during the 1950s while he was part of the Royal Household. In his autobiography Sounds from another Room, Horsley states that Prince Phillip had a keen interest in UFOs and would talk at length about the possibility of life beyond our planet.
In his book Horsley states that in November 1954 at a flat in Smith Street London he encountered a mysterious character simply known as Mr Janus. Horsley claimed that this Mr Janus had the ability to read his mind. Many UFO researchers believe that Horsley had encountered an extraterrestrial being, one of many who appear human. Horsley later went on to become Head of the Royal Air Force.
3. During Operation Mainbrace in 1952 there were a significant number of both UFO and USO (Underwater submarine objects) A number British newspapers reported these sightings.
4. Operation Paperclip which is mentioned in this book involved the recruitment of Nazi scientists and engineers after the war. Most notably Wernher Von Braun responsible for designing the V2 Rocket and later the Saturn 5 Rocket that took man to the moon.
5. Patrick More was one of the top astronomers in the country. He present the BBC’s Sky at Night program for over 50 years. His first television appearance was a debate regarding UFOs, in which he strongly argued against the existence of flying saucers. Apposing him and supporting the theory that UFO are was Sir Arthur Barrat head of the Royal Air force during the Battle of Britain.
Declaration
As author of this book I would state that I have always been fascinated by the UFO Phenomenon. However for the record I would like to state that I have never seen a UFO. There are many things in the night sky that at first glance can seem like something mysterious. There have been countless sightings of UFOs over the years. Many documented by official organisations. It is believed that around 99% of all UFO sightings can be explained. However a tiny proportion, 1% are unexplained. 1% doesn’t sound a lot, but when you add it up over a period of five centuries there are hundreds of thousands, quite possibly stretching into millions of unexplained sightings.
As for a cover up, I suspect that someone somewhere knows something. Not so much our modern day leaders. Perhaps sat at the back of House of Lords there’s a former high ranking military official left over from the Cold War who knows the truth.
Are we alone?
The question of our place in the universe has been debated for centuries. We live in a modern age where it is now widely accepted that we may not be alone in the universe. This belief has not spawned from a conspiracy theorist website, but comes with the official stamp of approval from major players in the scientific field.
Carl Sagan, Professor Stephen Hawking and other top scientists have often stated that it is now a matter of fact that life exists elsewhere. Official organisations such as NASA have spent billions of taxpayers’ dollars sending robotic probes to other planets. Mars has always been a place of interest to the ageing space agency. The most recent mission Curiosity, has exceeded all expectations.
SETI continues to monitor the heavens for signs of life in the form of alien transmissions. In July 2015 Professor Hawking helped launch a $100 million project to find signs of intelligent life elsewhere in our universe.
The Kepler space telescope has opened ou
r eyes to an ever expanding universe. Kepler has spotted hundreds of exoplanets which exist outside our solar system, and that is just the data the public are aware of. Some of these planets exist in what is known as the habitable zone (Goldilocks Zone) A region of space which is not too hot or too cold.
The James Webb Space Telescope is scheduled to be launched in 2018. It is just one in a future generation of space telescopes not only powerful enough to spot other planets but will able to see plant life and even the twinkling lights of an alien city.
It is no longer a matter of if we find life elsewhere, but when.
