Realizing he was screaming, he stopped and adjusted the breastplate on his chest. Resuming, he slowed his pace, and continued, “We gain control through the mortals but we must use legal means, at least until Earth is mine! El Elyon has covenanted not to allow the destruction of Earth by water a second time. Although, he has said he will destroy it by fire. We know the Promised Seed must come first. Therefore, we have to gain control of the seed while we still can.” Looking around the room, his voice barely above a whisper, he asked, “Do you not see the importance of what I say?”

Abaddon stifled a yawn and then asked again, “Helel, how close are you in completing your study of the new cellular blueprints. The DNA that will allow for offspring?”

“Much data is missing still. Something that I’ve not yet been able to discern, I know El Elyon placed a change within the human molecular structure when he put the eight in the ark. That change, affected longevity. Isolating the precise nucleotide and re-instructing it, is the problem. We can promise immortality to them, but we cannot deliver.” Returning to his couch he sat and slowly added, “We found skeletal remains of pre-flood giants, and we have recovered DNA from their bones. However, it is not reproducing the pre-flood DNA we need; we need to improve pre-flood DNA. When the time comes, we must insert the right combination of modified pre-flood DNA into the humans in such a way that they are unaware of what we are doing.

“Ba’el accomplished something like that with Enmerkar, and it worked, or appeared to work, but he is still mortal. And Ba’el’s son, Marduk, is mortal. We can create hybrids but not immortality. So, if we are to regain the immortality aspect, we have to find the correct gene and isolate it so we can manipulate it. I think that gene is in us, not in the terrestrials.

“I’ve also given orders to create our own promise seed. Enmerkar-Nimrod is a proto-type, but at this time, there are defects in him. And while on the subject of DNA, I’m still experimenting with DNA to create a soulless body, an Earth-suit for us; one that will allow us to stay within their dimensions as long as we desire.”

Ba’el chortled, “Well, while you are doing that, don’t forget we must start the construction of the great tower in Babel.” Running a hand through his long reddish-blond hair, the Prince of Persia pursued, “Upon my instructions Enmerkar brought Peleg to Babylon. However, Peleg hasn’t worked out as I had planned. He has been instrumental in the building of the city. So as I said, we need to bring Enmerkar back from the battlefields to finish the city’s construction and to start the tower. It will take a number of years to gather all the needed materials. It has been over twenty years since the city was started and thankfully, it is nearing completion.”

“Can you tell me with surety that all peoples will accept Enmerkar as the Melek?” Helel asked.

Ba’el nodded, “Yes, my lord, all the people who matter, not that they have much of a choice. Remember, Noah does not have an army but Enmerkar does.”

“Then remove him from the fields of battle and sit him on the throne. Start preparations to build the tower but wait on its construction until the city is complete. Build the tower away from the city. Hear me on this Ba’el; I want the city and the temple finished before the tower is started.” Helel adamantly tapped a finger on his leg, “We do not have the unity I want. The unity to achieve the tower’s purpose must be a coalition of total agreement by all who work on the edifice. I’m telling you that the temple in Babylon is the first of the keys to the unlocking of the portals. One government, one religion, one purpose, and one united voice. If we get this, we’ll not be defeated, and that brings me back to the power of agreement. We must have the humans exercising that power in our favor. I will give you ten earth years, can you do it?”

Helel looked from one side of the room to the other as each of his angels nodded. Standing to dismiss, he had a sudden thought, “I almost forgot, when last I presented myself to the throne to accuse Job, I overheard something being spoken among the Malakhim. Terah will have a son. A prophecy has been spoken; Terah’s son will bring destruction to Enmerkar’s kingdom. The Elders nor the Council spoke concerning the prophecy. But I am no longer privy to their meetings. So stand guard, just in case the messengers are correct.

“Ba’el, you especially must watch since both Enmerkar and Terah are in your territory. We must destroy the son if it is true. We can use Terah’s alliance with us to accomplish this goal. If not, use Enmerkar through a spirit of jealousy.”

Elijah turned to Emeleigh to see if she caught the significance of this proclamation, she did, she mouthed, “Abraham!”

Leaning into her ear again, Elijah whispered, “Yeah, and I’ve that feeling again. We need to leave!” Not waiting for her to acknowledge him, he just seized her hand and turning quickly he pulled her through the door.

For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to son-ship. And by him, we cry, Abba, Father. The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are Gods children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs — heirs of God and co- heirs with Christ. Romans 8:14-17, NIV

Still in Caleb’s car discussing what they should do next, Caleb and his dad hadn’t realized the young officer had walked up to their car until the officer rapped on the passenger window. Both men jumped at the unexpected tap. Emmett opened the car door and as he got out asked, “Any news?”

“Sir, my supervisor said he would notify the local sheriff’s department and…” Pausing he waited as Emmett shut the car door, “He’s going to ask them to send assistance. My supervisor is on his way.”

“Good,” Emmett nodded, “what’s your name, son?”

“Pigg,” the officer chuckled and ducked his head slightly as he looked at Emmett from under the brim of his cap, “really, sir, nobody believes me but my name’s Mike P-I-G-G, Pigg.”

“Son, it’s good to meet you.” Emmett managed a half-smile, “I’m…” He crossed his arms in front of him and looked away as if he needed to think for a moment. “I’m a retired minister….I, uh, really don’t know exactly how to say this but I must.”

As an officer of the law Mike’s internal alarm went off, he shifted his weight from one foot to the other. “Take your time sir, and tell me in your own way.”

“I’m going to let you know up front that we, my sons and I, will probably come across as weird but really we’re quite sane. My family experienced a very strange occurrence last fall. My eldest daughter went shopping with a friend and…he was kidnapped.” Emmett paused for a second as Mike nodded.

“Mike, I have other sons beside Caleb…and Elijah, who’s missing. The other two are on their way here from Navasota. Well actually, Joshua is my son and the other young man, Justin is eh…my daughter’s friend, the one who was kidnapped.” Emmett realizing he wasn’t getting to his point, paused to collect his thoughts. “What I’m trying to tell you, Justin was kidnapped last year and he can tell you about that once he gets here. We, eh,” he pointed to Caleb and then back to himself, “suspect we’re dealing with the same thing again.”

Mike scratched his eyebrow, “Same thing…sorry you lost me.”

“Well yes, but…oh heck son, do you know what Nephilim are?”

  Mike’s eyes narrowed, “Neph…who?”

“Neph-i-lim…they are the demonic offspring of fallen angels.”

Taken off-guard Mike looked first at Emmett and then at Caleb. Fighting laughter while trying to remain respectful Mike did the only thing he could to maintain a straight face, he looked at his feet. Controlling the twitch around his mouth, he bit the inside of his cheek and looked up, examining the older man’s eyes and seeing only sincerity he managed, “Sir, what exactly are you saying. This isn’t a joke, right?”

“No, I’m very serious,” Emmett shook his head, “as serious as a heart attack, son. I don’t expect you to believe me at face value, b
ut hear me out. I know what I’m talking about.” Emmett returned Mike’s scrutinizing stare, fully aware the officer questioned the state of his mental stability. For his children’s sake, he had to find a way to get through the barrier of unbelief. “If you know anything at all about the Bible…and hopefully you do…you know Satan exists. He’s a fallen angel.” Emmett paused to gauge Mike’s willingness to listen, by his response.

“Well yes, sir, my uncle’s a Baptist preacher and I grew up in his church. So I know Satan exists. I think I’ve heard about fallen angels, but I swear I’ve never heard the word Neph…Nephilim before.” Mike shifted his weight from one hip to the other, “What are they again?”

Caleb spoke up answering the question for his dad, “Nephilim are the hybrid offspring of fallen angels and human women, my dad’s trying to tell you that we believe my brother and sister were kidnapped by Nephilim…”

“Wait a minute,” still struggling to be polite, Mike’s irritation was showing through his words, “are you telling me there are fallen angels walking around having sex with women?”

Caleb held up a finger, “No and yes, but that’s the problem at the moment.” Caleb removed his billfold and took out a card, which identified him as a member of the Archaeological Institute of America and several other such cards that proclaimed him a member of other similar organizations. Handing them all to Mike, he continued, “Hopefully, these cards tell you that I’m not some crazy person but a serious professional. My father and I want you to take seriously, what we’re trying to tell you. If you want to call the number on the back of that ID,” Caleb pointed to the one that identified him as a member of the Texas Archaeological Society, “you can ask for Professor Carl Wills, he will vouch for me. Anyway, I know what we’re saying stretches the boundaries of common sense, but these beings are real. Not just some that happened ages ago in the past, in the Bible days. They exist now, today, and having said that, please understand we offer you no proof, no evidence of what we say, and that of course is part of the problem.”

Emmett cleared his throat then picked up the dialogue, “You see, son, we’re not going to find any evidence of what happened to my kids. Yet, I believe God will tell us what to do, believe me we’ve been through this before, and I’m certain my kids are going to come back. But I’ve…”

Mike thought of his own little girl and immediately felt sympathy for Emmett as a father, reaching across the space separating them, he laid a hand on the older man’s arm, “Sir, what do you honestly think happened?”

“That’s what I’m trying to tell you, albeit very clumsily. I believe both Elijah and Emeleigh were taken somewhere against their will. I know you need to do your job and investigate. I’m not trying to hinder you or your superiors, but at the same time, I know I should prepare you to expect the unusual. Well the supernatural…what I’m awkwardly trying to tell you is to please expect the supernatural.” Emmett pointed at Emeleigh’s car, “I don’t think for one moment my son willingly walked away from the car and left his things in there. My kids are neither careless nor reckless. I just don’t know why her stuff isn’t in the car...unless she never made it out of her office. That’s the only thing I can suppose at the moment.”

Mike shifted from one foot to the other, “Okay, then you need to tell this to my supervisor when he gets here. But let me warn you he’s not a believer. He’ll think you’re wacko. He doesn’t believe in God and makes fun of me because I do.” As Mike spoke, two patrol cars drove into the faculty parking lot. Seeing the marked police cars, Mike changed his mind, “Second thought, let me do the talking. I’ll try to get him alone and explain what I can. Then you’ll have to take it from there.”

Mike’s supervisor, George Martin introduced himself to Emmett and Caleb and then the Brazos County Deputy Sheriffs introduced themselves as Shane Stevens and Gary Miller. For a few moments, the officers discussed the specifics and then decided Gary Miller would dust Emeleigh’s car for fingerprints, while George, Mike, and Shane went inside the Computer Science Building to look for evidence and Emmett and Caleb would be allowed to accompany the officers inside the building as long as they stayed in the background.

Entering Emeleigh’s private office, Emmett was unprepared for the visible evidence indicating a struggle had taken place. Emeleigh obviously had been involved in some sort of altercation, her briefcase was upside down on the floor, its papers scattered everywhere and the desk chair laid on its side against the back wall as if it had forcefully been kicked. Emmett had suspected something serious but the confirmation provoked righteous anger.

Not sure what to do, he moved to right the chair but George quickly cautioned him not to touch anything. Mike, spotting a cell phone under her desk, retrieved an evidence bag and bent to pick the phone from the floor. Sticking his hands in his jean pockets, Emmett moved cautiously to look at it when Mike asked, “Is it hers?”

Emmett nodded, “It certainly looks like hers.” His stomach churned; he needed to sit down somewhere.

George, after seeing her office, decided to check the building’s security cameras. He informed everyone he would take Caleb with him ‘just in case,’ and because Caleb would be able to identify his sister if the cameras had recorded her exiting the building.

Emmett nodded and said he needed fresh air. What he really wanted was to pray. As he stepped into the plaza, his phone buzzed with a text. It was Joshua. Josh and Justin were in the parking lot. Emmett texted back he would wait for them in the plaza. Moments later, Joshua found his father and sat down beside him, putting a hand on Emmett’s arm he began in mid-sentence, “The two spies…two spies at Jericho. That’s what kept coming to my mind as we drove here.”

Leaning with his arms resting on his thighs, Emmett straightened his back and smiled, “That’s very interesting son. I think Holy Spirit is telling us something, because that’s exactly what I thought about as I was talking to your mother.” Emmett paused and said, “Caleb’s in the security office, just off the foyer, it’s marked. You’ll find it, go in, and talk with him.”

  ************

Justin, due to his training as a reporter, gravitated to the deputy dusting the Lancer for prints. He stood quietly for a moment, just observing and then began asking questions, “How will you know if you have lifted a set of prints of someone with criminal intent?”

Gary laughed, “Just between you and me, in my experience, this whole exercise really won’t benefit anyone unless we first find the perp. I can take the prints off the car but who knows who has touched it or when? It could have been touched by anybody while it sat here today, or yesterday at the grocery store. But, if it turns out a crime was committed, and we know who the criminal is, and he touched the car, then and only then, because I lifted the fingerprints, could we tie him to the crime scene. Make sense?”

Justin nodded as he muttered, “Yeah.” Digging his hands into the back pockets of his jeans, he walked slowly around the Lancer. “When can we look at the things in the car?”

“When I go inside, I’ll check with the other officer, George, he’s the one in charge.”

Again, Justin nodded. “Well what do you think happened? Do you have any theories?”

Gary smiled and shook his head, “Even if I did, which I don’t, I couldn’t say.”

“Mmm,” As Justin turned to walk away he tossed over his shoulder, “all right, I’ll leave you to it.”

Making his way to the plaza, Justin heard someone call his name. “Justin.”

Quickly looking around he realized there was no one nearby. He shook his head and smiled, I imagined it.

Justin, don’t you know me? Clearly hearing Hanael’s voice in his head Justin stopped walking, closed his eyes and pictured his angel as he whispered, “Hanael?”

Yeah, only got a sec but tell your friends not to worry. God has Emeleigh and Elijah. Tell them not to forget to use the scarlet cord.

“Wait, Hanael, can’t you manifest and talk for a moment?” Continuing to use a lo
w tone, Justin looked around to make sure no one was watching him talk to the thin air. “I’ve a lot I need to run by you.”

Justin, run whatever it is by Holy Spirit, he’s your Counselor. But I will tell you this, he’s pleased with your book, and he’s pleased with your plans for your future. However, you must do something before you marry Kirsten. Wait on Holy Spirit. He’ll show you what you need to know. Just don’t forget to tell Emmett to use the scarlet cord…must go.

Spotting Emmett, Justin approached just as Emmett’s cell phone rang. It was Caleb. George was requesting Emmett and Justin to join them in the building’s security office. As they walked toward the building, Justin communicated Hanael’s message.

As he opened the door to the security office Emmett’s cell buzzed again. Kirsten and her mom had arrived and were looking for him. Sending Justin back to the parking lot to find his wife and daughter, Emmett turned to George Martin and asked, “What did you see on the video?”

The video room inside the security office wasn’t much more than a closet and for the four grown men it was cramped and difficult to maneuver. George and Caleb sat on the only two stools while Joshua and Emmett stood behind them against the back wall. Without taking his eyes off Emmett, George explained, “Sir, Caleb says what I’m about to play for you is Emeleigh. The problem I have, what Joshua and Caleb see and what I see are two different things. I need for you and Justin to look at the video and then each of you to tell me what you see. Then I’m going to bring in the other officers and get their take. There are eight of us; surely, we can get a consensus of what’s on the video.

Caleb stood and pointed to his stool, “Dad, I’d feel better if you looked at this without Joshua or me. I think it’s important we all tell George what we see, separately. That way he doesn’t think we’re influencing each other. But let me warn you, it won’t be easy to watch…you will see Eme being manhandled by some…eh, someone...that’s all I can say right now.”
