Die slowly those who religiously watch TV and make it their only companion, who never have time for the theatre or the cinema, or a book, but follow this media blindly without realising that the entertainment and information it brings can also alienate.
Die slowly those who shun passion to live safely and avoid that bundle of unexpected emotions that makes our eyes glimmer, makes us laugh and cry, makes our heart unrestrained – it’s life without living, everything’s black and white, everything’s under control.
Die slowly those who never turn tables, never challenge the rules, who remain unhappy at the same job, who do not risk certainty for uncertainty to follow a dream, or who – at least once in their lives – do not refuse to hear sensible advice.
Die slowly those who do not travel, who do not read, who do not listen to music, who do not laugh at themselves.
Die slowly those who choose to destroy their own self-esteem, drowning in self-pity but refuse to get help.
Die slowly those who do not work nor study; sometimes for lack of support from an incompetent government: social injustices can kill slowly a chunk of the population.
Die slowly those who constantly complain about their bad luck and incessant rain, who abandon their projects for fear of failure before they even start, who do not ask questions so to look smart all the time and those who do not share what they know but keep it to themselves.
Many people die slowly, and that is the most regretful and vile of deaths – because when it does come, people are unable to change in the time that’s left for them.
We live with the inevitability of death so let’s try and avoid death in small doses, always remembering that being alive requires a much greater effort than the act of breathing.
