Sergeant at Arms Page 3

by Crystal Dawn

The black sky high heels on her feet looked amazing. She’d be hanging on tight to Jarel just to walk. She had a strap on black mini purse with a bit on gambling money in case they stopped on the way back. Her red lipstick matched her dress, her makeup was light except for her eyes. She’d gone for cat eyes and she hoped she didn’t look silly. She heard a tapping on her door. She took a deep breath and knew she was as ready as ever. She walked to the door carefully so she wouldn’t break her neck. She opened the door and couldn’t breathe

There he stood in a shirt that was red like her dress. The top buttons were undone showing off some of his tanned chest. It made her remember what he’d looked like at the pool when he’d pulled off his shirt and pants and her mouth went dry as her heart beat picked up. The red of his shirt made his hair look a richer brown. She wanted nothing more than to run her hands through the thick silky strands. She had a thought of turning into a total slut and keeping him in her room all night long. Oh Lord, what was wrong with her?

She liked Jarel, a lot but she knew better than to get involved with anyone right now. Her future was too uncertain, but the desire was there and nothing would take it away. If she was truthful, the man was perfect. He had a marvelous sense of humor, he was easy going, handsome, had a sense of adventure, and seemed good at everything they did together. She bet he’d really burn up the sheets and she was afraid if they went there, she’d never want to let him go.

Jarel was staring at her too and she realized it once she took a second look. Her face flushed and she wondered of she’d messed up her makeup or if she had worn too little and looked like a street walker. It was true she had little confidence even though no one had ever criticized her looks, but she just faded into the background. She was there but usually invisible. Normally, she didn’t mind but everything was different with Jarel. It hit her like a ton of bricks, she was falling for him.

Stumbling at the thought, she almost feel literally but he caught her. His hands were hot where they touched her and she felt almost drugged with desire. Need rolled over her and his eyes seemed to glow as he stepped inside and closed the door. She started to say something but he pulled her into his arms and his lips dropped to hers. She’d never been kissed like that in her entire life. It was hot and possessive, making her feel like he was claiming her down to her very soul. How was it that she was being so fanciful? It wasn’t like her at all. Her cousin Markie was the imaginative one of the family. She was the writer and her sister Zena was the actress.

Davy was the practical one, she was the one that worked security, surveillance, to be precise. That was how she’d gotten the evidence she thought would keep her safe. Maybe she would have been better off if she’d been more creative? If she was a little cold blooded and a lot less ethical, she could have had Joe killed. He didn’t seem to have a problem with taking her out of the game. That led her back to the problem at hand. Somehow Jarel had them both naked. Oh, God, how was she going to tell him no now?

His hot body pressed against her and she could hardly breathe. Waves of overwhelming desire ran through her unlike anything she’d ever felt before. His need was pressed up against her, his breath ragged, and she would swear she felt his heart pounding against the hand she had on his chest. Her thought had been to push him away but she couldn’t. She felt moisture pool between her thighs and her nipples were so hard they ached.

He was just holding her as if he was waiting for her to make the first move. Did he expect her to say stop or go? He moved his hand over her back softly and she moaned. She wanted more of that, a lot more. She couldn’t bear to stop, didn’t want to stop. She looked up at him and pulled his face down to hers. She nipped at his lower lip then sucked it in raking it over her teeth lightly. She shivered with want and he picked her up carrying her to bed. It seemed their plans for tonight had been decided. The only dancing they would be doing was the horizontal mambo.

First he placed her on the bed and then he got in beside her. He moved his hands lightly over her body cupping and squeezing her breasts. He moved his mouth to one and sucked her nipple in raking it with his teeth. She arched up toward him. She needed more! He moved to her other breast allowing nothing to divert him from his plan. He worked his way down licking and kissing every inch of her from her breast to her thighs. Now he had his face between her legs and she was in new territory. Did he plan to? Oh, yes!

His tongue stroked over her sensitive flesh and it felt so sweet. He licked her like a lollipop from gate to clit and she arched and moaned just wanting more. He moved his tongue to her entrance and dove in and out without restraint. Once she’d gotten used to that, he replaced his tongue with a finger and moved his tongue to her clit where it drove her wild. It occurred to her that he was too good at this, but when he sucked her clit into his mouth all thought left her head. She arched up to him and her fingers slid into his hair. She groaned and moaned until she finally screamed his name. Waves of pleasure rolled over her the like of which she’d only imagined.

Davy dragged in air barely able to breath in the wake of a ginormous climax. She’d heard of orgasms like this, but she’d never really believed they were possible. She didn’t have time to recover before she felt something poking her between the legs. Jarel hooked her under both knees with his arms and pulled her legs up and wide open. She’d be embarrassed at being so exposed if she wasn’t wondering if he could give her another amazing release.

He slid in so slowly she couldn’t breathe until he was inside her. She needed all of him and she felt the burn as her body adjusted. He was finally sunk balls deep inside her and it felt amazing. She whimpered as he pulled out feeling a sense of loss until he moved back in. Her channel grasp him holding on tight. Now it was his turn to moan. He set a slow pace to start until he sped up a little at a time. She moved up to meet him as he pumped into her filling her fuller than she’d ever been. He was everything good and worthwhile and he was hell in the sheets. She rode the edge of an orgasm that just might kill her when it struck.

She wanted it so much and she just needed something to push her over that edge to ecstasy. Jarel continued to pump into her a sheen of sweat covering his gorgeous perfectly sculptured body. He slid his hands back to her ankles, pulling her feet up over her head which allowed him to go even deeper than before. Thank goodness for her yoga hobby or that would have hurt. He slammed in once, twice, and the third time she shot off like a rocket. Fireworks exploded behind her eyelids and pure bliss washed over her in waves. The pleasure was too much for her to handle and the world went dark.

“Davy, are you okay? Say something Sweetheart,” a sexy man’s voice insisted. Her eyes blinked and then opened. She looked around seeing Jarel and remembered what had happened. Her face turned pink and she closed her eyes again for a moment and took a deep breath. He must think she was a total wimp.

When she opened her eyes and looked at him. “I’m fine. Wow, you’re just amazing,” she grinned.

There was a pretty satisfied look on his face. “That was pretty amazing. It was the kind of thing that makes a man appreciate a woman.” He hoped he wasn’t rushing her, but he didn’t have any time to mess around.

“I’m sorry. I can’t get involved with anyone right now. I’ve got some bad stuff going on in my life. I know I shouldn’t have gotten involved with you, but you were too hard to resist,” she said.

“Tell me about your problems, I can help you. I know I can,” he insisted.

“It’s some pretty big problems I’ve got and I won’t risk your life,” she replied. That would be enough to get most men to turn and run. She wasn’t happy that she had to do it, but she couldn’t live with anyone else being hurt because of her.

“You know I am not just a pretty face, Davy. You can count on me.” he said.

She chuckled. Jarel said some of the funniest things. Sometimes she thought he did it on purpose like now and other times she swore he was clueless. “I know you’re more than just a gorgeous guy. You can still die far too
easily. I’m not willing to put you in danger. I care about you too much to do that.”

“Can’t I care about you and want to protect and care for you?” he asked.

“Somethings a person has to work out on their own, I just can’t tell you.” He let it drop and he pulled her into his arms and they fell asleep together.

Surprised she’d slept so long but feeling better because of it, she woke the next morning and he was gone. He’d probably snuck off glad to see the last of her. What man wants to get involved with a new woman that has nothing but trouble following her around? He would be better off without her, she just wished it didn’t hurt so much when she thought about it.

She got up and took a shower, dressed and started thinking about breakfast. She went to check the refrigerator to see if there was anything in it but there was a note on it. Call me before you get breakfast! It was signed Jarel and he’d put his room number on it in case she forgot it. What the hell. She called and he answered on the second ring.

“Davy?” he said out of breath.

“Yes, it’s me. I found your note,” she said.

“Would you meet me in the lobby and go to breakfast with me?”

“Yes, I’m glad you’re not mad at me,” she said uncertainly. She’d already missed him when she thought he’d taken the opportunity she’d given him and run like hell. Jarel didn’t have an ounce of self-preservation. Maybe she was wrong to take advantage of his lack of survival instinct by remaining friends with him, but she was going to be selfish just this once. If things got dangerous, she’d push him away so he’d be safe.

As she stepped out of the elevator, she saw Jarel had somehow beaten her there. “You’re fast,” she teased with a grin. Damn she’d missed him.

“I just wanted to see you as fast as possible,” he said and he pulled her to him giving her a sweet kiss. “I hope you’re hungry?”

“I’m famished. If I hadn’t been, I wouldn’t have found your note. I only check there when I want food,” she admitted.

“Where is a better place to put a note?”

“Only the phone or your pillow,” she suggested. He grabbed her hand and pulled her back into the elevator. They went to the second floor to the restaurant where he’d first spoken to her. “I didn’t know they served breakfast here.”

“They don’t usually. This is a special event for my group,” he explained.

He led her to a table where some of the other men she’d seen him with were sitting, most had women with them. There was a special menu for the breakfast and she picked eggs Benedict, coffee, and orange juice. Jarel ordered an omelet and coffee. He spoke a little to the man beside him and then turned his attention back to her.

“My group is taking a shopping trip this afternoon. Should we go?”

“That sounds like fun. Is there a mall nearby.”

He looked at his friend again but she didn’t hear him say anything. “It’s about five miles southeast of here,” Jarel said. Maybe Jarel had just remembered or she’d just not heard his friend.

The meal went well and the men talked mostly about what activities they’d tried and if they had enjoyed them or not. Jarel mentioned swimming in the pool and how he didn’t like the chlorine. He turned to her to explain they usually swam in a lake or the sea where they lived.

“Where do you come from?” she asked and he hesitated as if unsure how to explain it.

“It’s far away from here. You probably haven’t heard of it before,” he said.

  “What’s it called?”

  “Draconis.”

“You’re right, I’ve never heard of it but there are so many countries in the world I shouldn’t be surprised.” It did make her wonder if that place was far enough away that Joe or his henchmen wouldn’t find her. Right now she wanted to enjoy Jarel’s company, but later she would give that some thought.

They finished breakfast and he took her to the casino to play a little while. They both won small pots but it seemed they were always winning never losing. Maybe her luck was finally turning around. Could she hope things might actually work out? They left the casino when it was time for the shopping trip and they met the others in the parking lot. The mall wasn’t far and it had dozens of stores from small boutiques to large department stores. She found that Jarel was even fun to take shopping except they bought way too much. He helped her pick out clothes, something she didn’t think men usually did. She’d enjoyed his compliments on some of the things he’s approved of and his promises on what they would do with some of the other things like lingerie.

It was a wonderful trip and they headed back to the hotel all too soon. They had bought so much, it was being delivered to the hotel. She hadn’t known stores would do that. Everything seemed to work differently when Jarel was around. It made her consider sharing her problem with him just to get his advice.

He leaned in and whispered, “What should we do when we get back?”

“I suggest we clean up and eat supper,” she replied.

“How do you feel about water conservation?” he asked straight faced.

“What? Oh, you! You just want some shower sex.”

“Is there anything wrong with that?”

“Not really and I’ve always been a fan of any type of conservation,” she replied.

Why did his eyes always seem to glow when they talked about or had sex? Was that some kind of trick or was it all in her mind? She looked at him again and his eyes seemed fine. They arrived at the hotel and they unloaded. Everyone was milling about and talking about what they would do next. She leaned in to hear what Jarel was saying and she heard a loud thump on the bus they’d been riding on which was now parked behind her.

Jarel pulled her down to the ground and people scattered everywhere. When he finally let her up, she looked behind her and saw what could only be a bullet hole in the bus right behind where her head had been a second before. Joe was clearly continuing his take no prisoners approach to dealing with her. The only thing that made sense is the informer or the man that had looked familiar to her, had recognized her as well. One of them had gone back telling Joe where she was and now she would have to run for her life, again.

He took her and pulled her into the casino. “We’re going to have to stay in here. Weapons aren’t allowed inside and they scan for them.” He lifted her chin and looked deep into her eyes. “I can protect you if you’ll let me.”

  “Who will protect you?”

“Protection is what I do, Davy. I am a security guard for powerful and important people. Let me help you at least while you’re here.”

He looked at her his brows slightly raised his eyes open and honest. She trusted him but she cared too much to let him risk his life for her. “It’s not a matter of trust.”

“It is a matter of trust if you don’t have faith in me staying alive. I am good at what I do and the casino will help.”

“How can you be sure of that?”

“We are here as guests of the owner. We are friends of his and he invited us here for a vacation we could not otherwise afford. In return, we’ll advise him on any problems we see. I’ll be telling him the security on the grounds is not good enough. He wouldn’t be safe if he comes to visit because he is often targeted because of his wealth.

“No he wouldn’t and you don’t know the half of it. If I told you about the situation he needs to know about, would you be able to get him to listen and to give me protection in return for my information?”

“I can guarantee you the protection you seek for as long as you need it. I know him very well but these matters would be taken care of by his executive officers. That’s what they get paid the big bucks for.”

  Chapter 4

  The Deal

Jarel sat there open mouthed as Davy told him what was going on and how the son of a high level Italian mob guy was trying to muscle in on the casino here. He’d heard about the mob, but he’d thought the organization long gone. He’d apparently been wrong. He was disgust
ed by the way these criminals behaved but he also saw a personal opportunity to offer Davy sanctuary on Draconis. He would have his mate and she would be safe among the stars, somewhere no Earth criminal would even have a way of getting to her.

The day was wonderful until someone had tried to kill her. He knew this person was a criminal of the worst kind to take a shot in such a crowded place. He risk killing several people with such a primitive weapon but that had not dissuaded him. Life had no value to someone like that. It made him even more determined to take these people down.

“So you and he were involved?” he asked.

“Yes, until I discovered what he was really like.”

“That was when he decided to kill you?”

“Joe doesn’t like losing something he considers his. He doesn’t play well with others and he never shares. I thought it was because of the insurance I took until I saw the car he’d given me as a parting gift blow up in front of me. He gave me that before he knew about the insurance.”

  “What is this insurance exactly?”

“I have a similar job to yours. I don’t physically guard people although I did receive some training in that. It’s required for everyone who works security at the casino I worked at. I do surveillance, I set up cameras and monitor them. I also install security on computers and run checks to make sure the computers are still protected. If a computer gets hacked, I trace it back to the culprit and the police usually take it from there.”

“So this work you do helped you get insurance?”

“Yes, I was working alone and Joe got some company. He was discussing some people he had killed and some other business he took care of. I copied the all of it and threatened to send it to the cops. He doesn’t seem to care. I also got part of the planning session where they discussed this place and what they wanted to do to take it over.”
