  “Lets play a game while we wait.”beamed aunt Angela,she had tarot cards in her hand and she wanted Ruth to pull out her card first.She did,my mom pulled mine and hers at the same time.Aunt Angela kept one card for herself.

  “Ah,you have love.”she smiled turning my card. “Death.”she said looking at my mother’s card,her face was red,these tarot cards were not ordinary ones,they were from the best witch museum,gifted to her by one of the renowned witches.

  She turned her card and it was the same,Death,her hands gingerly pulled Ruth’s card,only one tear escaped her eye while she spoke “Cursed Lover.”

  Twisted Corner

  I was with Chris again,my body was locked with him and I just wanted to sleep,he was not allowing me to.My head felt heavy,where was I exactly?,why was he so mad and demanding,he was rocking me hard,I groaned ,my hands were tied above my head to a steel railing.I had no other option left,couldn’t help it either,I started enjoying it,how long he continued I didn’t know because my eyes were heavy and shut.

  “Where am I?.”

  I was in bed and Chris was by my side,he was still sleeping,I tried sitting straight,it was difficult but I managed it.My breathing was heavy,he heard me and pulled me down instantly.

  “Stop touching me.”I cried.

  “Stop being naive Aagi.”he threatened.

  His eyes were cold and warning ,his lips were on mine and after that I did not know anything,I was again in his arms,my legs were locked around his waist and I was moaning ,did he know to stop or it was me who did not want him to stop.Ruth was still in my mind but Chris was just driving me insane,I wanted him so bad,the tiff that we had earlier was all washed,he was so good and soothing.

  My eyes settled unwillingly at the red moon outside,while his hands and lips continued to brush my body.I was not groaning anymore or moaning,I was just enjoying the rhythm,following his move.Once again when I could not take him more I slept,well I guess that was what he wanted.

  “Hey Ruth,baby wait for us.”laughed a tall boy following her,I was in her arms,Ruth was running as fast as her tired legs could move.Few boys joined him and Ruth continued running fast.They followed her and it was not safe to go home,they would keep following her there.She took a wrong turn and hid behind a garbage van.I wanted to cry,Ruth was in pain,she kept kissing me,so that I would not make a sound.Finally when nobody was around,she walked home,slow and dead,her cold fingers fidgeted with the rusted lock.She managed to get in.Placing me on the sofa,she waited,her eyes were wet,nobody was around,I did not have the slightest clue why?.

  It was getting dark and we both were sleeping silently when unfamiliar footsteps forced us to wake up.It was the same boy from the street,he was holding Ruth by her neck,she was crying but he did not loosen his grip.

  “Why were you running,don’t you remember what aunt Angela told,she said to be with me,didn’t she?,I am going to protect you.”

  “Let me go An...”

  Her voice was dead,she could no longer take the pain,his nails were cutting her skin around her neck, “Mom and dad will not listen to you,it was only aunt Angela that trusted you and your made up stories.Is he here,your cursed lover.Well he did help me a lot,making you look a fool,didn’t he?.He proved you wrong every time,seems like we both have one common target,seeing you in pain.”he snapped.

  “Let go,it was not my fault...”

  “Then who killed my mother?.”

  “He did.”

  “Sell this to some moron not me.You killed my mother,you killed your aunt Angela.And now you run,your mom and dad as well as my father will do anything to protect you but not me,I will see to it that you are declared as a mentally ill person everywhere to everyone who knows you.I will see that you suffer.”he thundered.

  I could not see her in pain.She was the most beautiful person I knew,she was kneeling by his legs and crying,his other friends were sad but no one dared to speak.I cried loud,he was annoyed, “take that worm away and lock her in another room Jim.”

  “Don’t do anything to her..”cried Ruth when a tight blow came right across her face.He slapped her hard,each and every time.She was screaming and crying but nobody came to help.

  “Andy stop,when her parents come they will kill you.”warned one of the boys.He looked annoyed and held her once again in his hands, “one wrong word Ruth,I swear it,your sister will be dead,it will be your name and not difficult for me to prove to everyone that you were responsible for it.”

  “Throw her in the same room.”

  She was crying,her eyes and nose were red,he was still sitting on the same branch of the tree,he was annoyed,she was scared but he did not smile as usual,he used to enjoy seeing Ruth in pain but this time something was changed in him,his eyes though did not leave her for a minute.

  The same boy who tried to hurt Ruth earlier was now in pain like her.The branch moved and extended inside our room through the window,she shivered in horror and my tiny eyes were more terrified than ever.He knelt besides her and she tried to avoid his touch,his hand lifted her chin and he could see the fresh wounds around her neck and her stung cheeks.

  She was crying more loudly than required while his hand touched her forehead.

  He was about to leave when she begged “please don’t hurt them.Please..”

  His cold eyes just smiled at her and he did not stop.

  I don’t remember how long Ruth and I cried but one thing was sure,I could hear everybody screaming outside,it was the boys,Ruth covered her ears because they were screaming madly.

  He came back,the same boy who Ruth had befriended,his hands were covered in blood and he was smiling.There was something about his smile that Ruth could not ignore,his slow steps made Ruth more uncomfortable than ever.

  His hands were clean and all the blood stains were on her dress.

  “Why are you doing this?.”

  “Wait for the right time you will come to know.”

  I could hear their voices,Kim and Sipper were down,the two boys were in the hospital guarding Jill and Roy,news was they were back to their normal self,Jill was eager to come home but the doctor did not allow her to.Chris’s cold hand pulled me in his arms and I did not protest,it was nice to hear his heartbeat.Felt so good and peaceful.

  His lips were pulling me to think only about him,his hands were already squeezing my curves,I wish I were free as him to enjoy this moment.I felt selfish and abruptly pulled myself away.He was not shocked but a little disappointed,his hands pulled me again in his lap,making me sit, I relaxed my head on top of his bare chest.

  “Where are we?.”

  “In my house.”

  “Why?.”

  “Best place in town to stay protected.”

  I had to look into his eyes,they were sober and mysterious,surely there was something that he was hiding from me,what was it?,what did the mixbreeds know that we failed to guess,one thing was for sure he would not give me the answers so easily.

  “Why were you playing me so rough?.”

  “It was the best thing I thought to do.”

  “Take advantage.”

  “No.Pull you out,Ruth is not going to come back.”

  “Shut up,how dare you talk about her like that.”I did loose it know,my voice was hysterical,he stood stone cold letting me space so that I could vent out all the hidden agony and anger.He repeated it again, “she won’t be coming Aagi.”

  “Go and die somewhere.Let me go...”

  “Aagi he is not going to let her come back.”

  “Who is he?,who is that bastard?.”

  “He is someone who you would not like meeting.”his voice was cold and dead there was no hope,his hands relaxed and I was free to fall on the ground.Was there anything or anyone who still hadn’t given up hope,I knew their names,it was Kim,Jill and Sipper.They would help me find her, “When is Jill going to come?.”

  “In the evening.”

  I was on my feet dancing down the stairs to meet the other girls,Sipper was
cooking and Kim was having a word with her uncle,she did not look happy,her face was small and many troubled lines decorated her forehead.

  “What did he say?.”

  “Not say,he scolded me for disturbing him again and again.He is not happy,I know,could easily make out from his tone.He has bad news in store.”

  “Ruth..”I collapsed ,he was there behind me but he did not come close,he was giving me space as I needed.

  Sipper did not speak, I know what she was waiting for or should I say who she was waiting for,it was Jill,that girl did not know to give up, neither did the one who sat in front of me.I did envy them for that.

  “Where are you going?.”I asked,Kim was already wearing her sneakers, “to meet someone.”

  “Who?.”

  “Someone.”she replied not meeting me in the eye.

  “Troy will not like it.”fired Chris,shutting the door ferociously before she could walk out.

  “How dare you do that.”she shouted.

  “Troy said...”

  “I don’t care what he said.I am a grownup and free to take my decisions,I know how to protect myself.”

  “Keep that for interviews,you will get a job.”

  Chris had his wand up and he jinxed the entire house,no door or window was opening,We were trapped.

  “Who the hell does he think he is?.”she shouted behind his back and tried in vain to open the main door,Sipper was forced to help her but nothing happened.I was furious,what did he actually want?.

  “What do you want?.”

  “Aagi I am in no mood to fight right now,alright,please leave.”

  “Why did you do that,she was about to get help,we are dying here to protect our sister and you act as though you know everything.She is not going to come,he will not allow her,if you know something then why do you not share the same with us or all you know is how to sleep with your girl and cage her.”

  “Enough,alright,enough,don’t cross lines.”

  “Lines are already crossed,you don’t love me,if you did you would know what is killing me.She is my sister,why are you failing to see that,she was there for me when nobody was by my side.She was all alone and she...”

  He cut me short, “she was never alone, he was always there with her.The same boy who you saw in your dreams,you saw didn’t you,what he has done to her,there was never a time that she was alone,she agreed to something and he let you have the love of your sister.She is not even your sister.Your sister was dead in your mother’s womb,she was about to give birth to a dead child but she was happy when a baby girl was playing in her arms,ever wondered how she was happy?.”he shouted.

  “How you know this and how much do you know?.”I demanded,he was just staring at me,regretting that he let the facts slip so stupidly.

  “Get out.”

  “What?.”

  He shoved me out of the room and shut the door right in my face.Sipper and Kim heard it all,they were far more annoyed than I was,things were just getting complicated,we did not manage answers to the first questions that were lined up and now more of them were poured on our head.

  “Who was Ruth?,who was she?,what all had she witnessed that we did not know.”

  Sipper and Kim finally gave up,the doors or the windows were stuck,it was half past nine and we heard Jill in distance,she was arguing with Roy,Chris came down the stairs and I got up eagerly.

  The door was opened and Jill was being pulled by Roy, “Let me go you leech.”she screamed.

  “How dare...”Kim was ready to explode when Troy held her back.

  “Time to go.”whispered Chris in my ears and I saw everything spinning around me.There was only darkness and my head was heavy.I tried opening my eyes several times but Chris managed to put me back to sleep.I hated him for that.I truly hated him.

  I did not get any dreams,the next morning all the guys were at the table,Chris was sitting in the center,they were discussing something low,Roy saw me and he nudged Chris,surely something was wrong,what was it?,why were Rocky and Troy acting as a puppet to mixbreeds.

  “Where is Jill?.”demanded Kim,her hands were folded over her chest and Sipper was holding the wand.Rocky was terrified.

  “Sweety.”he tried.

  “Shut-up.Where is she?.”

  “Over here.”called Jill lazily stretching herself.

  “Had a good night?.”asked Roy and she leaned close to his lips kissing him.

  “Wow.”coughed Kim,not believing her eyes.

  “He tried to kill you,yesterday he locked you in the room,this is what you are made up of?.”I questioned not agreeing to the strange Jill who stood there.

  “Everything has a reason and every explanation should wait for the right date.”she answered,pouring herself a mug of coffee.

  Kim was about to speak when she cut her softly, “we have all the time to argue and question but before that we need to trust each other and wait till time unfolds answers on its own.We need to find Ruth.”

  Kim and I exchanged a look of horror,was this truly our Jill who could not wait to hug us or tell us all that she knew.

  “What is the first step?.”asked Sipper in the most disgusting practical tone.

  “We need to go to the library and find that book.”

  “Which book?.”

  “Twisted Corner.”

  We wanted to ask Jill why was she behaving so strangely but none of us had the guts to do so,she and Roy continuously exchanged deep expressions which even Kim failed to understand.Chris never left me for a moment,his light brown eyes watched me like a hawk.He wanted me to sit besides him like all the girls,but I refused,he was not telling me the truth,he knew something terrible,in fact most of them did, only I was the one who was not aware of it,even Sipper I guess had a clue of what was happening to Ruth,I was unwillingly stuck in this friend circle,I just wanted to run away from them,each one of them,even Chris to get a better air.

  “Need something?.”asked he.

  “Yes.”

  “What?.”

  “I’ll pick myself.”

  “You just have to say and they will get it.”tried Jill without turning.

  “No,I want to pick the stuff by myself.”

  “Don’t be such a..”Kim stopped Troy, “She might want something she cannot say,right Aagi.”I nodded,well knowing Kim was giving me the opportunity to find something on my own,could see it clearly in her eyes.It was the same piece of paper,the address was so clear in her head,I got to know each and every word.

  Chris was annoyed,he followed me in the super market,maintaining his distance but his eagle eyes were difficult to get rid of,I pretended,asking the sales witch the direction to the thing that I needed,he just couldn’t figure out what was I searching for.His cell phone rang and he was madly arguing,this was my chance,I slipped through the backdoor of the store and within minutes I reached the main roads,getting a cab was not difficult,I had few coins in my jeans pocket,the address,it was the same address which the doctor had given Jill,I told the driver where he was suppose to take me.He nodded reluctantly and flew in the air.I was away from Chris,he did figure it out eventually because I saw him only few minutes away from my cab.The look on his face was deadly,he was angry,so red that I thought if he had a chance he would definitely beat me up.

  “Hello any one home?.”I asked,it was surely a creepy place,reminding me something,this place was the same house where Ruth was beaten by her cousin brother.Why would the doc give us this address,it was completely empty,there was not a single soul around this house.No sooner had I thought this, he came out from no where,a man who had a large axe in his hand and his entire body was covered in black cloth,his one eye was bulging out of his socket,I panicked and without wasting any more time I attacked him first with my legs,sending him down on the floor,it didn’t feel good,there was nothing in that old man,I felt like I did beat a bunch of hay.

  “Who are you?.”he whined,it was difficult for me not to help
him.I made him sit straight,his hood fell and I was pushed in the opposite wall unwillingly,his entire face was scarred,like someone had long nails dug in his skin,his other eye was not there,I could see the hollow and the red flesh around it.

  “Who are you?.”he asked again.

  “My name is Agatha Simon Digzon.”

  “Aagi..”he smiled,his one eye watering badly.

  “Who are you?.”

  “Andy,your cousin...”he sniffed unable to hide the strong emotions that overpowered him.I hated him instantly,he was the one who hit Ruth,good,he was in pain,I liked it.

  “I know you are enjoying my state,I don’t mind,but you are nothing like Ruth though,she..”

  “How dare you speak about her,you remember don’t you,the way you were beating her,you locked me away,blamed your mother’s death on her.”

  “I was wrong,I know,I should had listened to her,he did this to me,he did worse things to her and he will keep on doing the same.”he cried,his head was bowed very low,afraid to meet me in the eye.

  I felt sorry now,he was a kid wasn’t he back then,I wanted to touch him but he feared me,moving more close to the wall and shading his degrading frame.

  “What happened?.”I asked.

  “Serves me right.”

  “Who did this to you?.”

  “He did.”

  “Who is he?.”

  He was terrified,his one eye tried searching something everywhere,but he did not see anything.Finally he looked at me and whispered very low, “he is not human,nor a wizard close to a vampire but many ways different from them.Looks like an evolved species.He has all the powers of a ghost but he is not a ghost,I don’t know what he is but Ruth knows,he brought her here after the wedding,she was crying and he was holding her by her waist,forcing to kiss her on his lips,she refused,he enjoyed hurting her,he will not stop,he will make her life miserable,you should find what is he and how was he born,there are many like him,he came with his entire clan,they enjoyed beating me,still few of them come every night and...”
