Space Sharks: Deep Space Terror Page 9

by Nick Pond

As he was about to pull the trigger, a massive set of jaws belonging to the gigantic Space Rex came down and pulled the rebel up in her mouth. A pitiful scream followed, as blood came oozing back down where he was bit in half from the torso. Skilfully not dropping anything, the Space Rex managed to swallow around 80% of him. The Dinosaur then looked round at the general and soldiers, as she made no hesitation in thundering towards them.

“Shoot it! Kill it!” The general shouted.

Lasers poured back at the dinosaur, but the speed of her coming nearer, eventually led to them to running for dear life! Roaring ferociously as she gave chase, the men got to the end of the street and then separated at a junction where they split up. The general was out of breath, but he pulled a fellowmen into a doorway leading to a half standing building. They stood up against the wall remaining silent and motionless praying that the monster would run on pass. Nothing happened for a while, until they heard the beast thumping outside and she appeared to have stopped running. The dinosaur was sniffing the air, trying to smell and detect her next victims. Another crash thundered the room, as she slammed her foot down in defiance.

“That monster knows we’re in here!” The aid shouted to the general.

He tried to look over from the wall of rubble which exposed the outside, and the dinosaurs head turned instantly straight towards him as she locked eye contact and gave an aggressive snarl. The rain was coming down harder, and trickled down the dinosaur’s skin dripping to the ground. The general ducked back behind the wall and closed his eyes briefly as he clutched his gun harder. Sod it! He then jumped back out, and stood upright in front of the dinosaur and held the trigger firmly, as lasers poured out in rapid fire. It was too much for the Space Rex to withstand, so much to the generals delight she retreated letting out one final scream as she disappeared running down the street, furthering damage to the infrastructure as her heavy footsteps caused tremors across the whole block. The other solder then came out from behind the rubble and stood behind the general.

“What the hell was that then?” The soldier screamed.

“Space Rex! It’s been planted here...” The general speculated suspiciously, “I know that creature... Belongs to some billionaire! The government is fighting back! A dinosaur on the loose is a way of a weapon to bring down everyone! Significantly weaken the state in population numbers and then comeback to regain control!! I knew it!”

“We better get back to the bunker!”

“Oh... Erm.. Please don’t get mad, general,” the army soldier said.

  “WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?”

  “I forgot the milk!!”

“Gargh!” The general shouted, as he kicked a pile of stones in a fit of rage.

Zara was not far from the orange box now as she managed to pull herself up to it in the escape pod. After pigeon gate, things seemed to have settled a bit. Zara thought she was imagining things when beams of new light seemed to be shining through the port-holes.

For a second the beams disappeared, but soon reappeared again remaining as a light beam which is creating various shadows in and around the pod.

“Go check that out!” Zara screamed at the panicked man.

He didn’t do anything, and remained motionless.

“Oi! Dick!” Zara yelled at him.

There was still no reaction from the man. Zara focused on his chest, and to utter horror could no longer see it moving up and down.

“Oh crap!” Zara screamed, who suddenly looked very tearful.

He was only annoying; she never wished him any harm, or dead. Realizing the man had been harmless, and meant well; only wanting to escape from the nightmares of space. Zara spared the man a few thoughts of reflection in tribute to his demise. The light beams continued to shine through the window.

“That must be them!” Zipper shouted to the radio.

“Let’s take a look then,” The pilot driving the towing ship in front replied.

The ship’s engine cut off as both ships just floated near the escape pod.

“I’m going in!” Zipper announced, who stood next to an orange box ready for the space suit.

The crew in the spacecraft which air-dropped the Space Rex to Playa De Sontos remained launching across space. Hanksii was the ship’s leader and pilot, and he was on the radio to the ruler of Playa De Sontos.

“Well done!” The ruler praised over the radio, “Look I need you guys to do something for me! You need to get to the Spacetonia, there’s a nuclear bomb on board! Just shoot it! Let the bomb explode! It’s in mid-space no one will come to any harm! It’s heading for Playa De Sontos it will wipe everyone out! It must be stopped!”

“You’re mental! We’ll be blown away with it!” Hanksii shouted.

He was still wearing his orange suit, blending with his orange face and curly ginger hair and beard. Hanksii was Special Forces, and was only used for the more complicated missions.

“No you won’t! Just make sure you have good clearance! Shoot from long range... Or even attach a small bomb to the outside! Just do anything! Use your head for inspiration,”

“But we’ll kill everyone on board!”

“No but! The alternative! Populations and a nation completely wiped out! Does that not even compete with a sacrifice of a handful of people! Do it! And fast!” The ruler barked.

Hanksii took a deep breath, looked at his co-pilot next to him and made a big sigh before finally saying, “OK we’ll do it!”

  “Good!”

Unknown to Hanskii and their crew; they were actually being followed.

Zipper was now outside his ship, and up against the floating escape pod trying to peer through the windows. It was dark. The hatch was on top, so he pulled himself along to the top. He used his radio inside his helmet, that it only consisted of a speaker and a microphone built in – which he used to speak to the others on board the ship.

  “Chris! Can you hear me?”

  “I hear you, copy!”

“Lock on to their escape hatch! See if any survivors in here! I'll help guide it from the outside,” Zipper commanded.

  “OK got it!” Chris replied.

A slide door automatically opened, and a polyester tunnel started folding out until it fitted round the hatch on the escape pod, and was a click as it locked in. Zipper then went towards another hatch on his ship.

Zara laid on the floor completely hopeless, as the realization of everyone in the room being dead begins to sink in; she felt her heart sink, and found the situation unbearable. She suddenly noticed the hatch was banging, as if someone was turning the wheel for it to come open. As the door flew open, a bright light emerged, and a black silhouette of a figure was standing there, as it entered the pod and came walking in. I'm dreaming! It's Zipper! A second after that thought, the whole room turned white as she became unconscious.

Jimmy and Keagan were lost. Again. Keagan clutched the map of the solar system and complained, “They don't make these any clearer do they?”

“It's a fucking map you mong! Are you reading it upside down?!” Jimmy screamed.

“I don't know do I!? It's all dots and blobs!”

“If they've HURT MY MITTENS! THE CONSEQUENCES WON'T BE WORTH THINKING ABOUT! SHIT!” Jimmy shouted, who flew off into another rage, which was coming as regular as every five minutes at the moment.

“You need to chill out man! You are a monster when you're angry! A totally different person I met back on your asteroid...”

“YOU PIECE OF SHIT! I'M GOING TO KILL YOU!”

Jimmy got out his pilot chair, and put his hands out to get Keagan.

“Jimmy! Stop! I'm on your side!”

But it was too late as Jimmy made a grab on Keagan's shirt, and threw him to the floor. Jimmy ripped some lead piping off the wall, and turned to Keagan again... Ready to kick the crap out of him!

  “YOU’RE GOING TO DIE!”

  “You’re a lunatic! You've lost the plot!”

Jimmy swung the piping at Keagan, and managed to h
it him in the torso; which winded him and was now struggling to catch his next breath. Keagan clutched his throat and leaned over, struggling to breathe – until he managed to catch his first breath again. He was hit with a sudden pain on his arm, when he realized Jimmy hit him with the piping again. Keagan decided enough is enough, and tried to swing at Jimmy with a punch; but feebly touched his cheek. Jimmy responded by bursting into hysterical laughter.

“HAHAHAHA! Seriously? Is that it? Are you a girl?”

The spacecraft started to lose balance and started rocking, which got worse and worse. Both Jimmy and Keagan fell to the ground like the floor was just pulled from under their feet. Losing control Jimmy just managed to look up through the windscreen to see that they were inside an atmosphere and their craft is descending very fast to the ground below!

“My god! That's Playa De Sontos! MAYYDAAYYY!” Jimmy screamed.

As gravity took momentum, their spacecraft was being pulled in by the asteroid faster and faster, as they plummeted downwards. The two men were thrown around everywhere, and pieces of the ship were being ripped off by the upward resistance, as it was gradually tearing into pieces. Flickers of flames then started coming out from different places. Coming out the falling wreckage, two figures flew out as the wind took them up for a good few minutes until gravity made its grab and started pulling them both back down. But in a bid to cheat death again, two parachutes opened up above them both, as they both started to relax when they floated back down with an amazing view of the whole asteroid surface, with parts of it succumbed to the furniture of civilization.

Zipper is in a desperate state as he carried Zara's lifeless body into his own spacecraft. Chris and Jake rushed over to him, and aided in getting her onto a stretcher laid out on a table.

“She's still breathing...” Zipper managed to say out loud, with a lot of difficulty from the strains inside his throat.

Chris plunged an oxygen mask to her face, which was attached to a rubber pipe.

“Give her a shot of immunization!” Chris barked, “Usually comes with every first aid box!”

  “In there!” Zipper pointed.

Jake pulled open a metal cupboard, and grabbed a white box with a red cross on it. He opens it, and pulls out a syringe and small jar; in which he then proceeds to fill up the syringe with.

“Here!” He says eventually and then he passes it to Chris.

Chris grabs it, and then injects the bright green fluid into Zara's arm. Meanwhile Zipper attached some wires on patches to her, which were hooked onto a machine that started bleeping.

“She's stable,” said Zipper, “thank you everyone!”

Sharon looked on from the side, with her eyebrow raised.

“So this is what the fuss is all about?” She said in a smug manner.

  “Shut your face!” Zipper hissed.

Hanksii and his men were getting near to the Spacetonia, as their radio-waves bounced back a solid object on their radar. His sidekick Gavin was eating a blue-cheese burger and munching loudly.

“SHUT UP! SHUT UP!” Hanksii shouted, as he grabbed his burger and threw it on the floor.

Gavin looks motionless in shock as he still had his hands gestured where the burger used to be placed.

  “What you do that for?”

“Because you’re a pompous twat!” Hanksii shouted in a fit of rage.

“Oh... Are you not in a good mood, cap'n?”

“Of course I'm fucking not! You think I want to kill loads of innocent people?! There are women and children on board!”

A short black haired woman came into the room, wearing identical uniform in orange matching the two men.

“We've got a visual on the Spacetonia! The ships down cap'n, it's like it’s been split in half!”

“My god!” Hanksii exclaimed, “What the hell happened here?”

“What shall we do? Radio the ruler?” The woman asked.

“No... Let’s get a closer look, we should board! Especially if there's a nuke on there! Would be most sensible to do a risk evaluation... See what we're up against,”

“Don't be absurd! That's dangerous! I've warned you about that!” Gavin said, as he picked up the pieces of burger from the floor and started to rebuild it, “If you meddle, prepare to get your ass bitten!”

With that he took another bite from his burger, which sent Hanksii into a fit of even more heightened rage.

“STOP IT! STOP IT! YOU NONSE!!”

“Look, you want a cup of water?” the woman offered holding a cup to Hanksii, “Gavin, why don't you eat out there for a bit... I'll... I ... better take over from here,”

The shape of the Spacetonia wreckage begins to emerge through their window visor, looking very still and ghost-like. Everyone just looked on forward at the view of it, distracting Gavin from removing himself from the room.

“What could have done this?” Hanksii shouted.

“There's massive holes punctured everywhere all over it! Looks like something burrowed in through it over and over; turning it into a slice of cheese!” Gavin shouted.

“STOP BRINGING FOOD INTO THIS!” Hanksii snapped again, but the woman was managing to restrain him in time by giving reassuring whispers, and pushing him back and preventing him from flooring Gavin.

“Look!” She shouted, pointing out at the window.

Some more of the structure of the Spacetonia crumbled in on itself, and a massive shark started to come out through all the mesh of metal.

  “What the hell?”

  “Oh dear lord!”

The shark was eventually loose from the ship, and she started to swim round in a circle; pointing around with her snout.

“That thing is massive!” Gavin said very amazed.

“We've got to go! Now!” Hanksii shouted.

“They didn't tell us there would be a shark! You think they planned for us to die or something?”

“Shut up Gavin, but get us out of here! I'm contacting the ruler! This is preposterous!”

Zipper was by Zara’s side holding her hand, as she lay still lifeless but breathing.

“She’s going to be fine, Zip,” Jake reassured, “Chris wants to take us to the Spacetonia for a look – we will still need towing of course! As the ruler ordered, we better do something...”

“No, trust me! We need to keep out of it!” Zipper snapped, “It’s the government’s problem... Nothing to do with us! I just want to get back home,”

“We haven’t got a home!” Sharon interrupted, “I say we go!”

“You know nothing about anything!” Zipper retaliated, “Just keep out of it!”

“We are going and there’s nothing you can do about it! Just like losing half of everything in our divorce! Just accept it and let go!”

  “You evil bitch!” Zipper spat.

“You think it was easy for me? Every step in my career you put up a fight and made it an obstacle, Zipper! You know how much it all meant to me; you couldn’t just stand aside and be happy for me... That’s your problem!”

“You haven’t changed! Everything was all about you... But you know what, it doesn’t even matter! OK, since you are the expert in all this Sharon lets all go to the Spacetonia! Let’s get blown up, shot, or eaten! As long as you do well with your bloody career, what does it matter?!”

“So are we going to the Spacetonia?” Jake asked.

“Yes we are going!” Zipper shouted.

Sharon looked at Jake with a victorious smile, as they both went back to the flight room where Chris was at the helm on the radio to the ship in front.

“We need to find the Spacetonia!” Jake said to Chris.

Keagan looked around at the hostile environment of the revolution, as he unattached his parachute; then looking over at Jimmy who was doing the same thing in a nearby distance.

“Bit of a shit hole this place isn’t it?” Jimmy said.

An explosion ignited from a nearby building, bringing the whole structure down to a heap of rubble. Gunfire was then ex
changed followed by silence.

“And the people seem friendly,” Jimmy then added.

Keagan who looked around at his old derelict town was in utter shock.

“I can’t believe what’s happened! This was a buzzing civilization before I left!”

A group of screaming can be heard in the distance, followed by a roar from a much larger monster.

“That’s Mittens!” Jimmy screamed, “He’s here! Let’s go!”

The general and his aid were looking on at their bunker over the road, which was now surrounded by very angry rebel fighters, who were screaming for blood in very angry states of minds.
