Us Again Page 19

by Jennah Thornhill

  “Oh my god, yes Nate.”

Once again, she starts to shake beneath me and my restraint finally snaps. I plow into her relentlessly, until we’re both screaming each other's names and the entire contents of my balls, fire straight into her womb.

We’re both lying on top of her comforter, naked as the day we were born and I’ve never been happier. Despite the shit show of a day I’ve had and all the revelations that have come to light, nothing can take away the feeling I get just by being in Eliza’s presence. The day my baseball collided with her and caused her to drop her books, will always be the day I’m most grateful for. That day brought her into my life.

“What are you thinking about? I can see your mind doing overtime, Mr. Michaels?”

Laughing at how well she knows me, I tell her the truth.

“I was just thinking how the one thing I always thought would be my main love in life, brought the actual thing in my life, that I love more than anything.”

She looks at me with a confused look on her face at first, but I see the minute she remembers that day too.

  “The baseball.”

“Yes, the baseball. I still have that ball as well, it’s my lucky ball. Just like having your day of birth on my jersey has brought me luck.”

“I still can’t believe you did that.”

“Well believe it, baby. That number ain’t going anywhere and neither are you.”

Moving a strand of hair that’s fell across her eyes, I see nothing but a strong, independent woman. Who when she loves, she loves hard. Which makes what I’m about to say all that easier.

Cupping her jaw with my palm, I do what I should have done eight years ago and made her mine legally.

“Eliza, I’m in this for the home run, I’m here to make you laugh and smile. I’m here to stand by you in every corner of life, I’m here go on the journey of life with you. To argue with you, to make it up to when I fuck shit up. I’m here now, I’m here forever… with you. Now I’ve done this on a whim so I don’t have a ring, but will you marry me? I’m not above begging, as you well now.”

A nervous laugh leaves me as I watch silent tear after tear slide down her cheeks and into her sex-crazed hair. Panic that she’s gonna turn me down has my nerves frazzled, but she soon settles it, when she jumps up and pushes me onto my back and sits on top of me.

“I’d have married you the day you hobbled your way into my office and back into my life, Nate Michaels. So yes I’ll marry you.”

Elated that she’s agreed to be my wife, I sit up and her legs instantly go around my hips. I kiss her with so much love and desire for her. Resting my head against hers, I whisper against her mouth.

“The love I have for you goes anything beyond normal. Our love is what love stories are made of and what makes us, Us Again.”

  Epilogue

  Eliza

  Six Months Later.

I’m standing in the middle of New York city’s courthouse and I’m in a fucking wedding dress. After Nate proposed to me, I made it part of the deal that we wouldn’t have a fancy wedding. He didn’t want his parents there and I still had nothing to do with mine, since the day I left for college. We only wanted our two best friends there, Dean and Sammi. I wasn’t even gonna wear a dress, but when I told Sammi, she blew a gasket. She refused to speak to me until I allowed her to dress me for my special day. Reluctantly I agreed to her demands and I’m back where me and Nate started.

After his baseball season had finished and he took his team to victory in the playoffs, to win the major league. Nate decided that we went back to where our story began. I couldn’t have agreed more with him. I transferred my practice to a New York office. Nate signed the contract, he should have signed almost nine years ago, with the New York Yankees and became their captain. Sammi wasn’t happy that I upped and left L.A., but in the end, she saw it as an opportunity. She is currently in the middle of setting up a store here and hiring someone to run the LA store for her. That woman will always be my lifeline and wherever one is, the other isn’t far behind. As for Dean, he stayed in LA, declaring he was working on some big case that he just couldn’t abandon right now. He said he would be here for the day that his best friend got shackled with the old ball and chain.

“You ready to do this?” My best friend and maid of honor asks me, as she hands me a bunch of flowers. Ones that we picked up from a gas station on the way over here. I really am a simple woman.

“I’m as ready as I’ll ever be.” I tell her with the biggest smile on my face.

“The boys will be here any minute, Dean’s flight landed late, so Nate’s gone to pick him up”

“That’s fine, I’m in no rush.”

I’m really not. It’s just a piece of paper to me. I know who I belong to and I would wait for the rest of my life to marry Nate if I had to.

Over the last six months, Nate’s hired private investigators to find Selena and her husband. The ones that adopted our daughter and last month we found them and contacted them via a letter. After a lengthy phone call and us promising that we didn’t want to uproot her life. They finally agreed to send us regular pictures of her and that they would tell her where she came from when she was eighteen. Then it would be up to her if she wanted to find us. We made it very clear to them that if she did ever wanted to find us, that she would always be welcome and that we did in fact, always want her. Her name is still Rosie and she has chestnut hair just like mine and the most piercing, blue eyes just like her father.

“Hey, Bambi. You missed me?” Nate jokes as he takes the stairs two at a time, bringing back to the here and now.

“I always miss you even when I’m with you.” I tell him as he reaches me and places a kiss on the tip of my nose.

“I’m so sorry ladies.” Dean says as he jogs up the steps out of breath and with a dainty little waif following behind him. I look to Nate for answers and with a what the fuck expression on my face.

“Don’t ask, I’ll explain later.” he warns me.

  Mmmm, that’s interesting.

“Come on people, it’s time.” Sammi declares as she claps her hands together in excitement.

Taking Nate’s arm, he leads me into the chambers, where we are to be married and become Mr. and Mrs. Michaels. For the final time, we become… Us Again.

  About The Author

Jennah Thornhill is a wife and mother, who lives in Staffordshire in a town called Stoke-On-Trent with her husband Nathan and two kids Mollie Moo-Moo who’s eleven and her little ginger critter Noah who’s six.

She’s had a lot of ups and downs in the past three years, going from a full-time mother and hard worker to just fainting at work one day and ending up in hospital. Later finding out she needed to have a lot of tests done.

Turns out she needed a lumbar puncture in her back in which they drain the fluid from your brain.

When she had the results back, she wasn’t happy to say the least.

When they did it the first time, she got really ill from it. She soon found out why when a d
octor told her they think they took too much fluid.

After having a further sixteen lumbar punctures for the same thing.

Not being able to go back to work because of this she now manages her illness between being a mother, wife, and writer.

The only blessing to come out of all that is it pushed her to start writing her own books. After reading quite a few books before this, and when we say a few we mean a couple hundred.

When she’s not writing, being a mum or laid up in a hospital bed, she spends her time reading or sleeping.
