A chance at love (The Winter Sisters Box Set) : Special Edition Regency Romance Page 33

by Regina Darcy

  Beatrice froze then.

Sparks burst in the periphery of her vision, and the gentle light from the candles and the fireplace seemed to burn brighter. She blinked several times and suddenly stepped away.

“Have I offended you, Miss Beatrice?”

She shook her head, her eyes widening. “What did you say?”

  “I asked if I had offended –”

  “Before that.”

Mr Percival frowned. “I am afraid I do not quite understand.”

“Your heart,” she said. “There is little you can offer other than your heart. As if the grandness of this manor and all your riches were nothing. That your heart is what you truly treasure, and what you hope to offer.”

Mr Percival smiled. “You have read deeper into my words than I would have believed.”

“No,” Beatrice shook her head. Tears sprung forth, and her lips quivered. Flashes of light burst in front of her eyes, and fireworks erupted in her head. “No, Percival, I remembered your words.”

Mr Percival froze, staring at her with wide eyes.

“The crib, this workshop, your ability to show your vulnerability and how much you truly do love me. All that was enough to make me believe I had once fallen for you. Even if I did not remember.” A tear rolled down her cheek as the man she saw before her ceased to be a stranger in her eyes. “But what you said. There is little I can offer other than my heart. You said that the first time I lost my heart to you.”

  “You remember?” Mr Percival whispered.

“I remember,” Beatrice smiled, tears of joy streaming down her face.

“You remember!” Mr Percival closed the distance between them and took her in his arms.

“Oh, Percival,” Beatrice sighed, her hands tracing the lines of his jaw. “Percival, my love.”

Before she could utter another word, he bent down and covered her lips with his. The ardour with which he kissed her sent shivers down her spine, all the way down to her toes. How could she have ever believed this man was cold?

His passion for her burned with an intensity beyond her imagination.

“How could I ever have forgotten you,” she whispered once he let her up for some air.

He laughed and captured her lips yet again.

Any thoughts she had fled her mind as she lost herself in the intensity that was Mr Percival.

She had never been so content in her life.
