by Andrew Rowe
Using Dominion of Ice spells wreak havoc on the body’s ability to regulate its own temperature, causing symptoms similar to heat stroke.
Beneficial Deep Dominions
Protection
Influences bone density and skin composition. Skin developed by someone possessing a strong Dominion of Protection serves to protect against some forms of sorcery.
Without the Dominion of Protection, skin will have fewer layers, easily breaking and providing minimal filtration against sorcery.
Bones are similarly weakened by a lack of the Dominion of Protection within the body.
Metal
Regulates iron in the blood, although the function of iron in the body remains a mystery to us at this time.
The side effects of using the Dominion of Metal are unclear. The most visible symptom of this is paler skin, but it also can cause general fatigue, difficulty with blood flow, and the eventual failure of organs.
Travel
Enhances reaction time and muscular movement.
Generalized fatigue and muscular weakness. In extreme cases paralysis can occur.
Esoteric Deep Dominions
Blades
The so-called Dominion of Blades is most likely a particular form of the Dominion if Radiance, a Deep Dominion connected to Light and Motion. The function appears to be to purge foreign sorcery from the body.
Most people do not manifest the Dominion of Blades in any measureable quantity. Stories indicate that its users experience generalized fatigue, and it would be expected that they would also lose some of the efficacy of the dominion’s ability to purge foreign dominions from their bodies.
Destiny
Destiny sorcerers are incredibly rare. Most claim that their abilities enable to them to have glimpses of the future. These sometimes manifest visually, other times in dreams or in the form of memories.
Overusing the Dominion of Destiny appears to interfere with cognitive functions, similar to overusing the Dominion of Knowledge.
Void
I have yet to meet a human void sorcerer, but my studies indicate that this dominion may serve a similar function to the Dominion of Protection for the Esharen. This would make some sense, given that when used, the Dominion of Void has an effect that weakens or nullifies sorcery.
Unknown. Without any human sorcerers, I have limited data available.
There are many other Deep Dominions in existence, most of which are poorly understood. I hope to gather more information on these to write about them more in future essays.
