  Shots connect more frequently, battering the sturdy vessel.

  “Course free of obstructions,” Beckert announces. Nacelles at the wing tips flare brilliantly, and the ship jumps thousands of kilometers ahead in an instant.

  “Hold steady,” the Geek instructs. Argo holds the controls in a vice grip, maintaining a straight and level path. The planet is smaller behind them. The moon looms humongous and bright.

  “Calculating jump,” Beckert monotones.

  Argo watches the Nav display anxiously as it resets. Earth shows as a distant sphere. The moon resolves in large detail.

  Warships, bristling with weapons, jump into view with a flash. Struts extend from the bows and dark energy weaves between them.

  “Jump set.” Beckert announces. The craft turns robotically to a distant point as the wing nacelles flare brilliantly, and the ship streaks into the void.
