Sweet as Sin Page 33

by J. T. Geissinger

With a flourish, Grace finished her champagne, looked at Nico and me, smiled broadly, and said, “Kids, this is going to be so much fun.”

When I was halfway through writing this book, my father died. Logical and pragmatic, acerbic and loyal, taciturn and tenacious, he was the smartest, fairest, most reliable person I’ve ever known. In the chaotic aftermath of his death, I stopped writing. I was unable to write for weeks. When I picked up my pen again (I was still on a contractual deadline), the book veered off into dark territory, reflecting my state of mind.

Kat developed terminal breast cancer. She and Nico did not have the happy ending they deserved.

The chapters I wrote during that time were powerful, black, and very confusing. I wasn’t sure which direction I was headed with the manuscript. I wasn’t sure what I was doing at all. So I reached out to my author group at Montlake Romance, described my predicament, and asked for advice. They responded with such wonderful words of support and encouragement that it helped me forge a path forward that steered clear of disaster for my beloved characters. A special, sincere thank you to my fellow Montlake Romance authors for their kindness, wisdom, and clear-eyed advice. I appreciate you.

Equally important, thank you to Jay, for everything. There is no me without you.

Thanks to Maria Gomez, my editor, to Kelli Martin for assisting during transitions, and to the copywriting and proofreading teams, cover artists, and marketing department at Amazon Publishing.

Always, THANK YOU Melody Guy. You get me, you make me better, and I love you more than any other person I’ve never met.

Hugs and high fives to Geissinger’s Gang, my street team! You guys rock.

To my readers, family, and all those who supported me through a difficult year, thank you.
